Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

All my DS cares about us getting an A in History.

HellToupee · 24/08/2017 07:56

I'm on my umpteenth coffee and feel like swapping it for vodka...so, so nervous for DD's results this morning.

By contrast, she isn't. Says what's done is done and she now just wants to know. Fair point I guess.

She is getting ready to go pick up her results (I'm not allowed to come...) with newly pink hair and a mahoosive backpack as she and her friends are off to Reading straight after.

Good luck to all your kids and to you all!

ifonly4 · 24/08/2017 07:59

Hardly got an sleep here either, it didn't help that DD returned from holiday at 1.15am - she's still asleep.

Supposedly DD's maths set is above the national average, so it'll be interesting to see how many get a 9 (she's towards the bottom of the set and more like a 7/8 although I half think she's wondering if she got that).

Good luck to everyone, hope they get what they need for their first choice.

LittleHo · 24/08/2017 08:00

The baby sloth is gorgeous. Smile

Feeling anxious now, but am pleased about those Edexcel Maths boundaries. It was a really hard exam.

I've got ages to wait as ds isn't getting his results until 10.30am! If only we could log on.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/08/2017 08:02

Well DS2 has just left! He's gone on the bus with friends - they're getting McDonalds breakfast & then walking up to school from there.

He has no nerves whatsoever, I'm a quivering wreck!

BurnTheBlackSuit · 24/08/2017 08:05

Good luck to all your children today x

rainbowjoy · 24/08/2017 08:06

Ds could log in now for his results if one he wasn't still fast asleep and two he could remember his password! So will have to wait until 9.30 when he collects. He wants to get them on his own and apparently isn't going to tell anyone his results apart from us as its his own business. He seemed very cool and calm yesterday. I've just looked at the OCR grade boundaries for English, he did the infamous Romeo and Juliet question and they seem OK fingers crossed for the 4. Good luck everyone

Teddygirlonce · 24/08/2017 08:08

@hedwig2001 ditto - DS pulled his finger out with work in Year 11, after lots of supportive and constructive conversations about focus and hard work getting one a long way in life (rather than raw intelligence). So just hoping it bears fruit.

He's just left...

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/08/2017 08:09

Haskell DS2's school has raised their entry requirement to 7s this year! For A-Level study that is.

EsmeMargaretNoteSpelling · 24/08/2017 08:09

Our email came through at 7:30 so we weren't ready for it! DD really pleased and got A* for the subjects she wants to do at a level and nothing below a B.
Funny the ones that make them most happy, she is thrilled to have got a B in Latin because the grade boundaries are insane with an A needing over 80%! Her best friend was a borderline to get into the sixth form but she has made it which is a huge relief as well.
Good luck everyone waiting! Not sure I could have waited in a car outside school, I wouldn't have any nails left!

ProfessorLayton1 · 24/08/2017 08:11

Good luck to everyone DCs.

Iamnotminterested · 24/08/2017 08:13

Pacing here...

Good luck all 👍

booellesmum · 24/08/2017 08:17

Esme -
Well done to your DD.
Brilliant results.

CiderwithBuda · 24/08/2017 08:19

We have news!

He did well. Very well considering.

An A in Eng Lit
Two Bs - business and I can't remember what.
C in History which was less than he hoped.
D in Physics and Chemistry which is better than hoped.

Can't remember anything else! So happy for him.

He has had a shit year so this is so good.

Am weepy!

Fleurdelise · 24/08/2017 08:20

Sorry guys not meant to offend anyone with the "random strangers" comment and I know you (the teachers) really care, I said that in the support thread when DSs teachers were doing intervention groups at his school day in and day out. Just stressed and having that feeling yesterday of "I want to be the first one to hold him when he's born/feed him/ bath him/see him walk.... see his GCSEs results" Grin

But if anything the teachers teaching him do deserve to see them first as it is their hard work as well. Hats off for working and getting teenagers to achieve what they do, I couldn't do it.

noble DS couldn't believe those were the real grade boundaries, he said if they are accurate he has high hopes, he thought he'd failed his maths (this is a kid getting into his school on academic selection so I am shocked to hear he felt that bad about the exam).

Fleurdelise · 24/08/2017 08:23

Well done for the results Esme and Cider!

pasanda · 24/08/2017 08:23

Hi Fleur!!!

I know our ds's are very similar! I am feeling really nervous .

DS cool as a cucumber at the moment but we're leaving in 10 mins.

Good luck to everyone.

GissASquizz · 24/08/2017 08:25

Waiting outside the school. DS will be getting his results in 5 minutes.

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 08:25

Anyone struggling to find AQA maths boundaries that were supposed to be released at 8am, here they are

Haskell · 24/08/2017 08:27

HellToupee your username is brilliant! Hope your DD has a fabulous trip, and gets what she wants.

Eusebius · 24/08/2017 08:28

DS -6A's, 2B's and 2C's. I am very pleased.

We would like to see if Maths and Physics can be remarked. Where do I find the grade boundaries? And what is the normal process for this?

Witchend · 24/08/2017 08:29

Dd1's still asleep but can't go in until 10pm and only arrived back from a week of camping last night.
Otoh ds kindly woke me at 7am because he thought I might want a hug. Very sweet, but I'd rather be ignorantly asleep at present.

Hamster me and dd1 were saying similar last night. All very well if you're the one to get the phone call, but I bet there's several conversations along the lines of:
"Hi, you know we arranged to go in together to pick up results?"
"Yes, you still up for it?"
"Well, I've just had a phone call from school to ask me to go in early for a press shoot."
"Why?"
"Mum says it means I've done well, I'm really excited. I'll wait afterwards for you if you like."
"No, don't worry, I'll see you later." puts phone down. "Mum, I know I've done badly, they've asked those who did well to come in..."

Although dd1 says her school doesn't do that and even if they did (being a practical person) she wouldn't be asked because all such things are arranged by the rather domineering drama teacher so it would be firstly people who had done well in drama and any extras making sure they had a mix to show a diversity the school doesn't really have. Grin

ShowandTell but with that attitude, there were people disappointed not to get an A* and before that an A, and dm taught people who would be getting upset that they didn't get a C (or in some cases a G).
In some ways I wish they hadn't put it in, but that's more because in English dd1 would never be near an A so no pressure there, but in maths she should have been able to get A without huge amounts of work, so putting the 9 in gave her the extra pressure-but it then means she had more interesting maths last year.

Piggy lit is the one that dd1 is really bad at. She never has really got what we used to call comprehension well. She doesn't read between the lines. She's hoping her lang will make up for it.

Haskell · 24/08/2017 08:30

Santa's 7s? Shock Crazy, when that's an A. As if 6s were a bad outcome ?Hmm

readyforsunshine · 24/08/2017 08:34

Hi fleur & pasanda Smile
Really good luck to both your boys & all other dcs, I just hope everybody's day is ok, that's all that matters that the kids are fine.
Just talking to Dh as we wait for Ds to wake, we don't feel nervous! Have decided that it's the one plus we can find about him not working as hard as he should have! If he'd put his all into it I'd be really hoping he'd achieved his full potential, similarly if he struggled I'd be desperate for him to be ok. As it is he needs a minimum requirement for sixth form first choice, i hope he gets it obv. Can't really properly explain but it all feels so much more relaxed waiting for results than the trying to motivate him to revise rather than last minute cramming that he did!

lljkk · 24/08/2017 08:34

Thanks for that, NobleG. WOW! Only 63% to get the top mark. Just 24% for the 4. I suppose not as harsh as university marking when I was 18 (1985).

Must wake up DD soon.
