AQA won't be releasing their grade boundaries till 8am. Other exam boards are 6am.

Also AQA have confirmed they won't be putting exam marks, only the grade for maths and English on results slips. If you want to know the result for remarks you'll have to ask the school.

Notanothergiraffe · 23/08/2017 18:32

I can't see the point in trying to second guess. They will all have the marks tomorrow. Nothing will change what is on the bit of paper. (Obviously apart from maybe a remark!)

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2017 18:34

I didn't know that noble : interesting!

Frith1975 · 23/08/2017 18:34

So what will the exam slip look like?

Will it be subjects in alphabetical order with grades (A-G or 9-1)?

How do you know if you're near the boundary? Do you have a mark as well as a grade?

Never had that in my day!

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 18:38

My DD seems to think she knows exactly what she got wrong or right, how many marks for certain questions et.,She wouldn't remember now though but straight after she was estimating. She definitely knows she didn't get full marks for the circle theorem question Confused as she went blank.

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 18:40

Thanks noble

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 18:41

Anyone know anything about OCR English?

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2017 18:43

This is a sample AQA results slip. You'd get a different slip for Edexcel and another for OCR.

Danglingmod · 23/08/2017 18:47

But she couldn't possible know for something like English, MsHarry? Otherwise she knows more than most English teachers themselves!

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 18:48

Yes, not English, she just felt certain questions went well or badly.

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 18:49

Also she was comparing to how she felt after mocks and her score in those.

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 18:49

Noble. Just a question. DD did her English spoken language mid July. Will she get her result for that tomorrow or will she have to wait until next year?

Danglingmod · 23/08/2017 18:51

Year 10, Jufus? It's not a separate qualification, just an endorsement in the full GCSE, so next year, if that's when she sits the two written papers.

Frith1975 · 23/08/2017 18:52

Thanks, NobleGiraffe.

So you'd then look up the grade boundaries to see if you were close to the next grade (if you were interested?)

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2017 18:54

Dunlurkin thank you the Cake and Brew. I'll have a hot chocolate Smile.

My year was the first to do the then new first GCSEs and I still remember the % I got for my maths. I missed out on a higher grade by two marks Sad.

Next year DD is taking some GCSEs early so I'll do this again in 2018 and then again in 2019 for the regular year then she's doing an AS level a year early so it's going to be a few years, especially as I have a third child...

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2017 18:55

Is she Y10 Jufus? I'm not sure, I'm maths, maybe an English teacher like @DoctorDonnaNoble knows?

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2017 18:59

frith yes, although maths and English teachers at least will be way ahead of you in looking at potential remark candidates (don't know if other subjects are as proactive).

Edexcel have confirmed that raw marks for the new GCSEs will be given on the results slips so you won't need to ask the school for those.

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 19:13

That's interesting noble about AQA not giving marks but just grades for Maths and English, and that their boundaries are released 8am. We're set off to school 8.30am for a 9am release time, so maybe I should create a need to do a bit of supermarket shopping beforehand, to get her out of the house away from the wifi earlier.
Goingtobe I hope you had the marshmallows and whipped cream - desperate times call for desperate measures.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2017 19:19

As a minimum!! Why isn't there a hot chocolate emoticon?!?

I'm starting to get nervous now. And dh is away tomorrow / Friday.

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2017 19:20

One thing that's just occurred to me regarding remarks is that they charge per paper for remarks but the grade boundary is only over all three papers so either picking a paper to be remarked will be a bit pot-luck, or paying for all three to be remarked will be expensive.

Edexcel are making all marked papers available to schools for free, so if your DC is doing Edexcel and you're close to a grade boundary the first step would be asking the school to have a teacher review the marking.

OCR are giving free access to English papers only because of the Romeo and Juliet debacle and any Romeo and Juliet student can ask for a free review of marking.

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 19:35

Me too Goingtobe. Think I'm going to abandon the thread for the evening. Thanks for all the helpful info noble Good luck for tomorrow all.

Witchend · 23/08/2017 20:22

MsHarry Dd1 thinks she knows her maths marks within about 5 marks. She's happy if those are the grade boundaries as she's well into where she wants to be.

I keep telling her not to count her chickens.

She is excited. Confused

I'm trying to pretend I'm not nervous.

ButtonLoon · 23/08/2017 20:51

I must say that our results look different to Nobel's as they are printed directly from SIMS (the database) so won't be branded with the exam board. (Useful since we seem to use many!) Grin

JumpingJoey · 23/08/2017 21:13

Heard Dd wail from her room. I rushed to see if I could comfort her over exam worries. She cried she's used up all her month's data and as far as she knows Leeds Festival hasn't got wifi. Hmm
