Because we need a new thread now that things are really hotting up!

Physics tomorrow but ds has been studying anything but physics. Confused

He's been surprisingly stressed about maths being 9-1 and having limited past papers so
I've reassured him that everyone's in the same boat. He can get A* in old spec but is a rusher with crap handwriting which I fear will cause him to lose easy marks.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2017 16:54

Interesting that nobody seems to be doing media studies.....

ifonly4 · 23/05/2017 17:09

Bertrand, media studies wasn't offered at DD's school, maybe should have been as it's a big comp.

Crazed, I think DD is still on wind down after yesterday's Eng Lit and Geography - physics isn't her priority and consequently no sign of physics revision. She's been revising Eng Lit for Friday. now talking to a friend! Physics is her weakest subject and I think she's resigned to it being her lowest pass grade. Maths on Thursday, I get the impression if she doesn't know it by now, there's not much she can do about it. Good luck to your son with maths, he can obviously do it. It's so hard on them as them and their teachers have no idea what the new grade boundaries based on past papers.

unfortunateevents · 23/05/2017 17:10

DS had the second RE exam today which seems to have gone well. He is now supposed to be revising for Maths on Thurs and Eng Lit on Friday but is playing with the cat instead!

Laniakea · 23/05/2017 17:22

dd has done a bit of maths, a bit of physics & a bit of English. All a bit halfhearted. She really doesn't know her poetry very well, which is slightly alarming. Physics tomorrow afternoon so she'll do some more revision in the morning & then a maths revision session at school afterwards.

She's lost her glasses (and her spare ones - there's a theme here) and has a headache.

Madhairday · 23/05/2017 17:36

DD is the same with poetry, Laniaka. I'm worried she's not ready for it.
She said RE p2 went ok. Has physics tomorrow. She looks very tired.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 23/05/2017 17:40

Latin fine. Physics revision today.

AtiaoftheJulii · 23/05/2017 17:43

Ds had computer science (one of the IGCSE boards) today, seemed to be ok. And then RS (ethics) this afternoon which always sounds pretty straightforward as long as you've learnt your bible quotes. Then biology unit 1 tomorrow.

And so we're all together again for maths on Thursday - which boards do people have? Ds is Edexcel.

Allthebestnamesareused · 23/05/2017 17:51

Ontopofthesunset if it makes you feel better the Latin students where I invigilate were writing to the very end of the prose paper too!

Laniakea · 23/05/2017 17:52

dd is aqa (she's aqa for everything except edexcel English)

Her English 'plan' is 1) do well in paper 1 2) do well in J&H on paper 2 3) write 'something' for the poetry comparison 4) do well in the unseen poetry ... I see flaws ...

Physics should be fine, she got full marks in the P1 mock & it is her favourite subject (though neglected recently), maths is a crap shoot.

PossomInAPearTree · 23/05/2017 18:11

Dd had no exam today so I let her stay home to revise for physics even though no study leave. She works hard and can get more done at home.

I rang up, said she had a migraine. I went to work.

One of her teachers rang her up at home, asked if she was ok, she daftly said yes, he gave her a bollocking and put the phone down on her!

Toffeewhirl · 23/05/2017 19:22

Bertrand - yes, my son is doing Media Studies! Sounds like it was an absolute disaster for him. He said he didn't know what to write.

Honestly, I am beyond caring .

Laniakea · 23/05/2017 20:14

dragged dd away from Grimm to go through the poetry again. She's doing conflict. Bloody hell it is sad Sad

errorofjudgement · 23/05/2017 20:30

Possum Oh no!! I did exactly the same as you, luckily DD didn't get a call from school.

I understand why the schools want to keep them in, but DD had no lessons today that would help with the 3 GCSE exams she still has this week, so has done more focussed revision at home.
At least that's what she tells me!

QueenofQuirkiness · 23/05/2017 21:25

DD was happy with her essays on Jane Eyre and the Tempest for English Lit yesterday (thank god, English and maths are the ones she stresses over constantly). She does AQA so is now revising the poetry as I speak, and I would advise all DC who do AQA to watch the Mr Bruff analysis YouTube videos for poetry - DD swears by them and got 28/30 in her mock on poetry which she says is thanks to the videos! Physics tomorrow....I haven't seen much Physics revision though! Luckily she has the morning to go through it Confused

noblegiraffe · 23/05/2017 21:32

I saw on Twitter that a DC answered a question about Scrooge based on their knowledge of A Muppet's Christmas Carol, instead of a question about the text that they had been taught. Poor teacher!

LittleHo · 23/05/2017 21:54

Grin The Muppet Christmas Carol followed the plot quite well. He might get a good grade!

pasanda · 23/05/2017 21:55

Hello readyforsunshine - nice to see you back Smile

DS has been studying hard for the last few weeks which is a novelty for us as well!

He just did a Business Studies multiple choice past paper and got 40/40 so that has been a massive confidence boost for him. He's currently doing a B1,2,3 past paper and has asked me to mark that. I'm knackered and want to go to bed but can't say no! I don't mind marking the MC papers but his handwriting is so awful (uses a laptop in exams it's so bad!) that it takes me ages to mark the 'normal' papers. Hey ho!

Just about to start....wish me (and him) luck!!

Laniakea · 23/05/2017 21:55
Grin
AtiaoftheJulii · 23/05/2017 22:19

Hope it doesn't take too long! Is that OCR gateway B1,2,3 tomorrow? Good luck x

Fleurdelise · 23/05/2017 23:20

Seeing the previous posts I do wonder if any dcs not having study leave are actually going to school. DS also developed a "migraine" today. Grin luckily nobody called. Apparently he did a couple of maths past papers and revised physics.

Dd is AQA for sciences and Edexcel for maths.

HappyMum543 · 23/05/2017 23:26

My sons school don't get study leave aswell. To be honest it's better because they have extra booster lessons before exam and my son focuses more in school where my DD is the complete opposite she likes working and revising at home

GiraffeorOcelot · 24/05/2017 00:23

DS has only had one day off last week but came home early today as last lesson was Spanish and he has done that now.

He was so shattered that he played a cricket game and has been asleep since about 8.30 Shock I really hope he sleeps all night as he has struggles to sleep the past week 🤞

Good luck to all tomorrow. Physics P1, maths and English lit here (all AQA), then that is it for this week. Lots of revision to do for subjects after half term though.

OpalTree · 24/05/2017 00:32

Ha ha. I wonder if the Muppet Christmas Carol child wrote about Michael Caine and Miss Piggy.

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/05/2017 07:13

Lots of revision to do for subjects after half term though. - I keep sort of forgetting that things like German and History still exist! Blush DS is going to my parents for Sun-Sat of half term (we're joining him halfway through) - part of the idea being that there will be fewer distractions as he can't take his desktop with him and I'm not sure how good any of their laptops are for gaming, lol.
