Because we need a new thread now that things are really hotting up!

OP posts:
JufusMum · 22/05/2017 22:39

DD came home in a state after the English Literature kerfuffle. Calmed down a bit, had a treat of a Subway salad and went to dance to beast herself to loud techno music for two hours (she does competitive freestyle disco). Came home in a happier place and says she will try to drag her grade up with the second paper on Friday

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 23:14

Found the thread at last...

readyforsunshine · 23/05/2017 07:22

Hello again all, particularly fleur & pasanda
I had to drop off the thread as rather than helping I felt it was stressing me more as most dcs seemed to be dividing like mad rather than honing their Xbox skills Grin
Glad to see most are coping well, I can't remember which poster had a really anxious dd? Hope she's ok.
Ds did poorly in his mocks but would have managed enough to scrape into his sixth form choice. He switched on about 3 weeks before exams started & is coping well, not stressed & feels confident that they're going well so far.
Having caught up last night I was so tempted to interrogate query Ds over questions on the papers!
He has a day off today then physics & business studies on weds.
Good luck to all dcs with exams todaySmile

RaskolnikovsGarret · 23/05/2017 07:51

Latin today, good luck all DCs. Hope all ill or stressed DCs in particular are ok.

BertrandRussell · 23/05/2017 08:11

Any other Media Studies people? Or are they all doing "proper" subjects? Grin

As I said on the other thread, remember that they only need whatever they need for the next stage. As are nice to have but most people don't actually need them.

Fleurdelise · 23/05/2017 08:35

Hello readyforsunshine! I kept away from the thread also during the run up to exams as my DS was doing nowhere near the level of revision some of the dcs were doing on here and I realised it was making me anxious and ruining my relationship with him as I kept saying "other DCs do X amount a day". Anyway DS really pulled himself together and started heavily revising a few weeks before it all started, he is quite stressed at times and his bedroom is covered in revision books, most of the time when I open his bedroom door he's there buried in a book and the conversations turned to "please have a break/get some sleep/don't stress".

Good luck to all those sitting exams today!

namechange7711 · 23/05/2017 08:36

Just checking in to this new thread. DS2 spent about 8 hours on the Xbox after the Eng Lit exam yesterday, so hoping he'll do some work today....(That's assuming he gets up of course!)

Dancergirl · 23/05/2017 09:06

Please can we spare a thought for any teenagers who were caught up in the Manchester incident last night Sad

Fleurdelise · 23/05/2017 09:17

Agree dancegirl, there are potentially parents out there wishing their main issue was their teenage not revising for their exams. Sad

My thoughts go out to all of them Flowers

errorofjudgement · 23/05/2017 09:42

Flowers thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the incident in Manchester. Horrific news to wake up to this morning, so many lives have been altered for ever.

ifonly4 · 23/05/2017 10:36

Just lurking here today as no exams for DD, next one is Physics. She was so tired after Eng Lit & Geography yesterday, she just wanted to switch off.

Fleurdelise - my DD was the same, not doing nearly as much revision as others, but she's in full flow now. The study looks like a bombsite, work books, text books everyone, hopefully among them is a letter from the school I need to deal with and can't find!

Fozzleyplum · 23/05/2017 10:47

Latin language 2 was "fine - no surprises" according to DS.

Snowchaser · 23/05/2017 11:17

Same here Fozzley. Greek and physics next. Yuck!

Ontopofthesunset · 23/05/2017 11:22

Latin also reported to be fine here.

Fozzleyplum · 23/05/2017 11:32

There is some "speed learning" of Virgil going on upstairs ready for Thursday!

Madhairday · 23/05/2017 11:42

Yes thinking of all those y11s who were caught up in the events of last night. My dds friend was there and has an exam today, did I hear some were being postponed somehow? Sad I feel so sick.

Dd has RE today. I imagine they'll all be very subdued. It's just awful

unfortunateevents · 23/05/2017 11:55

DS has RE today and all I could think about when I was driving him to school was how lucky he was to be doing an exam today and that that was the only thing on his mind, in light of the dreadful events in Manchester last night.

readyforsunshine · 23/05/2017 12:27

Just so awful, I can't imagine the panic of trying to find your children, those poor, poor people Sad

fleur when I say 'switched on' I'm still a little way off having to encourage him to take a break! I woke him at 10 & made him a bacon baguette & have just been in to gently shove a 🚀 under him as he's on you tube Angry

foundoutyet · 23/05/2017 12:39

dc reports today's Mandarin was fine.

But we talked more about Manchester on the way home

Allthebestnamesareused · 23/05/2017 13:10

I am an invigilator - Latin was clearly very easy as the whole group had finished in half the time allotted! Grin

Quadratilla · 23/05/2017 13:53

Allthebestnamesareused, DD thinks you must have been invigilating her Latin exam 😂

Dancergirl · 23/05/2017 14:09

madhair yes I can't help thinking of those poor Year 11s from the Manchester area who were either at the concert or had friends there. And they're expected to carry on with their exams as normal? So, so awful, just beyond belief.

Quadratilla · 23/05/2017 14:27

Ofqual have given the following advice:
www.gov.uk/government/news/manchester-incident-advice-for-schools-and-students
One would hope that headteachers would be sensible and exam boards sensitive

Fozzleyplum · 23/05/2017 15:22

DS said they'd all finished the Latin after 25 mins, too. I think if they know all the grammar and vocab, there's little that can be set to throw a well-prepared group.

Ontopofthesunset · 23/05/2017 16:16

It sounds as if you could have invigilated any of our children's schools! DS said he was finished after about 20 minutes which sent a chill through me but he said the same about the MFL reading papers. I think the literature is the tricky bit with the Latin as there seems to be so much to learn and of course the language level is much harder than what they would be expected to translate unseen. He said the prose paper was fine but he was pushed for time on that one.
