I can't find a new thread, moving on from the old full one, so I thought I would create one (please tell me if I'm wrong!)

Last night ds stayed up till 4.30am doing his biology coursework Shock

This time the tsunami affect didn't work and he left it far too late to do a reasonable job. Which is a bloody shame because he wants to do biology A level and he has done so well in his other controlled assessments.

I wait with bated breath to find out his mark

Oh well, thank God for half term!!

Feel for you Bertrand. Have just walked with DS to school. Both of us have come down with coughs and hayfever. Dosed up on Day Nurse and antihistamines - have just stopped off for a coffee on the way back and am feeling completely spaced out! God only knows how DS is feeling Confused On the other hand he was so stressed about Macbeth and ACC last night, maybe he'll now just sail thru the exam. Fingers crossed and best of luck to all the poor Year 11 new-spec guinea pigs. Here's hoping the exam boards are kind and keep the questions straightforward and on the main themes and characters...

Dancergirl · 22/05/2017 09:15

Oh no bertrand hope it goes ok and he feels better soon. What happens if they're ill, can you ask the exam board to take a doctor's letter into consideration?

BertrandRussell · 22/05/2017 09:29

If they are proper ill you can- you need to get a doctor's note within two days. But I don't think a nasty cold counts!

RaskolnikovsGarret · 22/05/2017 10:04

DD was stressed this morning, as her friends in the other class told her that to get good marks in English lit, you need to put in 'conceptual' points. Looking at the examples they gave, they seemed more A level standard to me.

The school is inconsistent in its teaching, so I've no idea which is right. I helped her think of a few points this morning, but didn't want to make a big deal of it.

Fingers crossed there are no crises unfolding as I type!

Redsrule · 22/05/2017 10:12

As a teacher I am not allowed to see the paper until tomorrow so waiting for my little lovelies to come out and tell me the questions, but just looked in at the exam hall and they are all writing away so obviously accessible questions in AQA Lit 1.

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 10:19

I really hope the stuff comes up what the children have revised cannot concentrate on house work just walking around the house got alot to do but more nervous then my ds.
He gets back from school at 4.30 so will not know anything till then he did say he wishes witches comes up in macbeth but we never know... pray for all the dc good luck to them all literature will be over on Friday phew

Dancergirl · 22/05/2017 10:30

Yes agreed happymum

Is my dd the only one doing Pride and Prejudice and An Inspector Calls on here?? The board is OCR.

ifonly4 · 22/05/2017 10:33

bertrand, sorry to hear that. Hopefully he can shake it off - lots of healthy eating for a few days!!

My DDs friend was feeling sick this morning (not down to nerves unfortunately) - DD has been told to keep her distance as the poor girl is going in in the hope she'll get through Eng Lit.

Redsrule, my DD is doing AQA Eng Lit, so that's good news. She's forecast a 7, but got an 8 in both mocks so everything crossed here it'll go her way.

DD's strongest subject is geography, teacher has forecast her as A*+, so today is a lot of pressure as she'd love these grades.

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 10:35

I think my ds school is doing Inspector Calls but he isn't their is a mixture of every play everyone is doing.
They can only try their best now nothing more good luck to ur DD

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 10:37

Ifonly4 I would be so chuffed if my ds got 7's he got a high 5 in his mocks but hoping for 6 in both English language and english literature good luck for ur DD aswell and dacncegirl

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 10:39

Bertrand don't worry ur dc will be fine good luck

ifonly4 · 22/05/2017 10:47

Thanks, Happy. It's great that they have these predictions, but there's so much pressure to avoid retakes or to have something almost in their grasp. She really struggles with physics so we've got a complete contrast this week.

Good luck to your son. A 5 is great, but hopefully with the time he's had since and revision, he'll get that 6 though!!

BertrandRussell · 22/05/2017 10:49

Ds is doing An Inspector Calls on Friday-he's doing AQA.

ifonly4 · 22/05/2017 11:09

Bertrand, AQA here so we'll have to compare how they feel it went even if they're following different texts.

Cafeconleche · 22/05/2017 11:10

AQA English Lit trending on Twitter... No word yet from DS but seemingly Macbeth on ambition (Lady M extract) and A Christmas Carol on poverty (Cratchits extract). Hoping against hope he wrote to his best abilities because he knows both themes well. Am waiting for the phone call - 'it went fine' would be beyond amazing...

HappyMum543 · 22/05/2017 11:10

Thanks Ifonly4 fingers crossed. My ds finds physics hard that's why we getting extra tution for science the maths questions are like physics this year. He got a D in his both science core and additional but didn't revise isa he got an A so hopefully he should get a c or above targets are A's and B's but as long he gets into his 6form that he wants to go he's happy needs 5 passes to get in.
Good luck to ur DD for her coming exams this week

t875 · 22/05/2017 11:25

Dd said English went well not too hard so fingers crossed Smile

Laniakea · 22/05/2017 11:37

haven't heard from dd (hopefully she's occupied by friends rather than having a breakdown!), don't want to harass he. I keep panicking that she did the wrong texts - exam sheet definitely says Shakespeare & post 1914 Lit (Lord of the Flies) for today. Can't find anyone else who is doing edexcel.

She'll be in school all day with geog this afternoon.

I've been doing lots of calming laundry Hmm

t875 · 22/05/2017 11:37

Bertandrussell hope ds is better soon. And you can sort for him to take the exams or put them off

Fleurdelise · 22/05/2017 11:39

I haven't heard from DS yet but twitter seems to think WJEC was a blessing, something about sonnet 43 coming up and everybody being grateful for it.

That either means DS will text to say it was "alright" or "harder than he thought" based on his history of telling me that exams perceived as hard by other pupils were easy and the other way around.

Laniakea · 22/05/2017 11:42

hope your ds managed okay Bertrand

Just heard from dd - she says it went well. Relationship between Macbeth & the witches & a question on the theme of control and then loss of innocence in LOTF. None of that was stuff she revised yesterday but she seems cheerful anyway (maybe just relief it is over!).

cardy1969 · 22/05/2017 11:51

It looks like the Romeo and Juliet question was about male aggression. Not sure my dd could have answered this well from what she revised.

Dancergirl · 22/05/2017 12:20

Phew, dd is home. Her verdict was one of the Inspector Calls question was very good, the other one ok and the Pride and Prejudice question was also ok. One of her friends found it all easy but that doesn't necessarily mean she did better.

Hope everyone's dc did ok today. bertrand hope your ds is feeling better.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/05/2017 12:25

I've had a reply to my text asking how it went ....... shit!

Quadratilla · 22/05/2017 12:25

Laniakea - my DD also did EdExcel this morning. She did Romeo & Juliet and Lord of the Flies. Thought it was okay and seemingly did same LOTF question as yours. Romeo and Juliet question was about family honour or something like that.
