I can't find a new thread, moving on from the old full one, so I thought I would create one (please tell me if I'm wrong!)

Last night ds stayed up till 4.30am doing his biology coursework Shock

This time the tsunami affect didn't work and he left it far too late to do a reasonable job. Which is a bloody shame because he wants to do biology A level and he has done so well in his other controlled assessments.

I wait with bated breath to find out his mark

Oh well, thank God for half term!!

My ds had 2 hours of English Literature in school in the morning and after that he hasn't looked at his books he's not focusing and telling me he knows what he's doing. Honestly I'm coming to a point where I feel like giving up and letting him do watever theirs me and my DH getting extra tution for english maths and science but no appreciation. He got a 5 for mock for english literature and english language but needs to stay on 5.
Noble giraffe do alot of students go down or up a grade in their gcse's?
I'm just worried it's probably me pressuring him as any parent I just want him to focus for 3 weeks and then he's got 3 months with rest.
Macbeth, Blood brothers and Christmas Carol's tomorrow at 9 and 30 min booster session fingers crossed and good luck to all the DC

Cafeconleche · 21/05/2017 21:14

Good grief, what a flippin mess! Surely it would have been better to wait and see how the questions and grade boundaries pan out. I hate that my DS's cohort are the guinea pigs for the new English and maths specs - but I wouldn't subject the Year 10s to it - WHEN I DIDN'T HAVE TO!!! Both English Language and Lit are meant to be taught over 2 years - the kids themselves mature so much over that time, both personally and in their writing abilities. I really feel for you both - sounds like the English teacher needs a good slap talking to

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/05/2017 21:30

DD sat her eng lit for the WJEC (Wales) in Jan. Got herself a B. Which she cried about as up til now she's been predicted As and A*s. No mention from the school that they were the final exams, but they were. No discussion with the teacher and DD about why she 'only' got a B as "They're done now, on to the next thing" by the teacher.

She's resigned to her B now. Still wants to take it for A level and a B's good enough for that.

Only one exam this week - physics on Wed. And plenty of 'free' lessons to use in school for extra revision.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/05/2017 21:40

Redsrule I felt a bit tearful reading that I have had wine it's so true though our teenagers are very under estimated.

Good luck to all the DCs tom. Mine are a bit stressed about English lit

Rockefeller234 · 21/05/2017 21:55

Is anyone doing Geography tomorrow? DS said he hasn't revised it properly resigned to fail Sad.

DS is predicted an A in english, Sonia very confident, it's one of his best subjects, but he's just not bothered with Geography, and despite all advise, has not revised it.

Rockefeller234 · 21/05/2017 22:17

'So he' not Sonia Confused

GiraffeorOcelot · 21/05/2017 22:19

rockerfella DS is doing AQA English lit then WJEC geography in the afternoon. He has done far more English lit revision than geography but is at a far higher level in geog (A compared to 4/5) than English so that makes sense.

pointythings · 21/05/2017 22:19

Yep, DD1 doing Geography. She revises like a beast though.

PossomInAPearTree · 21/05/2017 22:28

Dd has geography. She's worried about not remembering details of all the case studies and has been swotting those today.

Dancergirl · 21/05/2017 22:37

Oh God, stress in our house tonight Sad

Dd has English lit tomorrow morning - Pride and Prejudice and An Inspector Calls. She's very strong in English but is stressing over P+P.

Against our better judgment she was out till 6pm today at various dance commitments. I'm just about to test her whilst biting my tongue to say I told you so!

I haven't even read bloody P+P, does anyone have any tips please?

Fleurdelise · 21/05/2017 22:49

DS is also stressed about eng Lit. He's still revising now even though I asked him to go to sleep.

He's also sitting geography tomorrow afternoon so stressful day all day tomorrow but I promised him he can stay home and revise on Tuesday seeing as there aren't any exams planned.

errorofjudgement · 21/05/2017 22:49

Grr, it's so tricky trying not to let people down and still do your best.
No tips but lots of sympathy.
DD should have been at a dance assessment day last Sunday to keep her dance scholarship, but with the GCSEs starting the next day, she didn't go but will probably lose the scholarship now 🙁

HappyMum543 · 21/05/2017 23:00

My ds is doing the same revising english literature told him to go to sleep but saying half hour more made him a milky coffee because we both havnt had a good day trying to calm down my self a bit....

GiraffeorOcelot · 21/05/2017 23:07

Tricky balance isn't it?

DS can't sleep again so have given him a few of the tips from the English teachers on here, thank you! I was relieved to hear he knew all about PEARL and could explain it to me so fingers crossed!! 🤞🤞

GiraffeorOcelot · 21/05/2017 23:09

Happymum I've just made all my lot hot chocolate as no one can sleep. I remember my mum making me milky coffee as a kid, it was a real treat. Hope you enjoyed it.

HappyMum543 · 21/05/2017 23:22

Yeah Giraffe he and my self enjoyed it he's just on his laptop listening to macbeth quotes and going threw the characters 15 more minutes then he's going to sleep he wants to get up at 6.30 have breakfast he likes having weetabix with sliced banana and a vitamin 3 6 &9 which his tutor recommended only one a day only started that recently obviously with the right diet. And school booster session before his English exam (can tell he's stressed out feel useless)
Anyway night everyone good luck to all the dc taking their exams tomorrow they can only try their best now very best of luck will be doing a special prayer for all the children sitting their exams.

t875 · 21/05/2017 23:25

Good luck to all DCs' tomorrow for English Lit! Were Macbeth and Christmas Carol, i think she will never want to hear them again after the amount she's revised. Nervous with this one, but hey ho, see how the day goes. She couldn't have put more effort in with this!
again the litcharts have massively helped us and DD is very grateful Smile

errorofjudgement · 22/05/2017 06:26

Wishing lots of luck to everyone in the exams this week

Gnome134 · 22/05/2017 06:53

Good luck for everyone this week. Hope those suffering with lack of sleep manage to get some. We're lucky in that DS doesn't seem to have difficulty sleeping. He'd conked out at 9pm, so we woke him to get him to go to bed! English lit then geography here.
Oh yes, and the comment above about teenagers working hard brought a little tear to my eye too!

Dancergirl · 22/05/2017 07:48

Lots of tears from dd last night over bloody P+P Sad

Calmed her down and we spent an hour going through the revision book with her, I read bits out and asked her questions. I think she knows it pretty well, more than she thought. She finally got to bed at midnight so tired this morning. But she only has English this morning and then nothing until Wednesday so she can rest.

giraffe I also was supplying hot chocolate last night Smile

I'm feeling a bit stressed today.

Good luck to everyone's dc for this week.

Dancergirl · 22/05/2017 07:49

Remind them all to take anti-histamines if they suffer from hay fever, it's going to be hot this week.

BertrandRussell · 22/05/2017 08:08

Mine's woken up boiling hot with a sore throats and a hideous cough. Sent him off with iced water and inbuprophen. And I've emailed the exam officer to see if they can put him in a separate room where he won't disturb the others. Bloody sod's law- one of the two he has to do best in......Sad. And he's never ill, so he doesn't really know how to deal with it...

Fleurdelise · 22/05/2017 08:25

So sorry to hear that Bertrand! I think they are more susceptible to viruses now as they are stressed and ran down with tiredness. DS is having a bit of a cough but no temperature or any other symptoms yet and yes, he's never ill so he must be pretty ran down.

Good luck to all the dcs this week.
