Is it too soon to start a 1st March (secondary school allocation day) support thread?

DD has six good options on her CAF - we will be happy if she gets any of those six but there are no other local schools we would be happy for her to be allocated/offered Shock - and private schooling is not an option.

So just a bit nervous and already counting down the days until we find out which school she's been allocated (if at all).

I'm up with the baby and so checked the website. We got our 1st choice so very pleased

HairySunshine · 01/03/2017 04:36

Gutted here too. None of our three preferences, been allocated a single sex academy I wouldn't have touched with a 500ft barge pole. Will be appealing.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 01/03/2017 05:22

Fed up. Didn't get 1St choice. His sister goes to the school already. Will be appealing

Emerald31 · 01/03/2017 05:38

Oh I'm sorry. Are siblings not a high priority at your son's school? I'm up with my youngest so thought I'd check the online portal but the link isn't responding. I'm waiting to see if my dd has got a place at my ds's school.

justgivemethepinot · 01/03/2017 05:47

1st choice Smile

sudha2511 · 01/03/2017 05:51

Anyone from London Borough of Hounslow got the results???

MrsPnut · 01/03/2017 06:05

I woke up at 1am and checked. She got her second choice and we need to work out whether to appeal her first choice. The do historically add a 9th class each year from the appeals and there will have been over 600 kids applying for 240 places.

teddygirlonce · 01/03/2017 06:09

sudha2511 I don't think any of the 'pan-London' e-admissions outcomes are published until 5pm (or later) today.

We're in a London borough - I've just checked our DD's application - all is as it has been for the past four months at the moment Sad.

Congrats to those who've got the schools they want for their DCs but really sorry for those who haven't got any of their preferred choices - part of me thinks that will be us tonight...

Useful article in the DT for those who've not got a(ny) school that they want.

Not all secondary schools have sibling policies though, do they?

OP posts:
Anne2300 · 01/03/2017 06:11

London outcome isn't available yet on the portal. A long wait…

teddygirlonce · 01/03/2017 06:15

TES headline this morning "Number of pupils offered preferred secondary school place falls in most areas."

@atheistmantis keeping everything crossed for you

Trb17 · 01/03/2017 06:16

@teddygirlonce that's not good. Fingers crossed you get good news soon.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 01/03/2017 06:20

We got second choice - sibling goes to first. She is heartbroken - am trying to remain positive but will appeal. Will RTFT later - does it have info on the appeals process? Any top tips?

ILovePandas · 01/03/2017 06:27

DS got First choice, thankfully same as DD so will both be at same school which means everyone is happy and life will be easier.
Sorry to all those who didn't get what they wanted and sending you the best of luck for appeals

notsomanky · 01/03/2017 06:38

First choice here. Very relieved.

I'm sorry for those disappointed Sad

minxthemanx · 01/03/2017 06:42

Essex - still no email through here. I know from previous years that some don't get their notification till later in the day - agonising.

SquidgeyMidgey · 01/03/2017 06:48

Very happy for those who got their choices, good luck to those going to appeal.

Acornantics · 01/03/2017 06:52

Rael sorry to hear about your DC not getting into their sibling's schooL, that's a really poor, frustrating result.

We appealed for a high school place a couple of years ago, and were successful, and the best advice I have is to speak to the very knowedgeable experts on here - PRH, Admissions and Tiggytape to name three - and find a copy of 'How to Win your School Appeal' from Amazon, which was invaluable in helping me compile info, set out and write the appeal and understand what was, and what wasn't, grounds for appeal, as it's very specifically defined. Ours was successful as the admissions authority (the school in our case) made an error during the application process, and we had email evidence to support this.

Good luck with the appeal if you go ahead.

justgivemethepinot · 01/03/2017 06:53

minx log into your essex application, you can see your offers .

Acornantics · 01/03/2017 06:54

DS will be agoing to the same school as his brother (oversubscribed 1st choice). Phew, so very relieved!

3asAbird · 01/03/2017 06:54

Sorry to those who dident get what they wanted

That was me 2 years running primary a few years back.
Also had split siblings

Well we applied for eldest.
In total shock git 1st preference random allocation girls school giving sibling link for small girl but a new search for small boy.

Very pleased just sinking in and 500 quid uniform and big long list.

Think its easier to win a secondary appeal.
Also some areas lots movement 2nd round usually may time.

sudha2511 · 01/03/2017 06:59

Congrats to everyone who got their choices..
Its very unfair that, london borough results not yet uploaded into the system..fingers crossed..

Middleoftheroad · 01/03/2017 07:03

For Birmingham we get an email some time today. I am waiting on two rather complex CAF form allocations and expect one twin to be over the moon he got grammar and another to be gutted he did not.

Appeals are notoriously unsucessful in Birmingham. They even emailed applicants to warn that out of 1000 plus appeals last yr only around 2 percent were successful.

Feenie · 01/03/2017 07:11

Got 1st choice, so relieved.

I'm so sorry for those who didn't, best of luck with your appeals. Thanks
