Brit School reserve list - please HELP!

Hi... My DS applied for the y10 music strand and we were thrilled to get an audition.. then a long wait and we are on the reserve list. Im devastated but he still thinks he is going to get in. Does anyone have any experience of the reserve list for Music? Does it move? I can see how the lists for drama and musical theatre would do as there are other schools which offer it, but there's nothing like it for music. If its hopeless I guess I will have to come up with some ways of softening the blow... Please help if you have any info. xxxx

There is BOA in Birmingham & LIPA have a 6th form in Liverpool.

errorofjudgement · 29/04/2016 06:25

Thanks balletgirl mum, unfortunately neither is within travel distance as we are in the West Country, but it's interesting to read about them.

NewLife4Me · 29/04/2016 12:55

I'm sure there will be some movement and wish your son the very best.
it sounds like he has worked hard and is dedicated, he deserves his place.

I think the comment of nothing else musically challenged us other musical parents to look for alternatives Grin
You can't say that on here as we come out of the woodwork Grin

bigel · 05/05/2016 17:07

All of them? Really? oh that is amazing. Obviously we've heard nothing yet. Im thinking that if I don't hear by May 20th which is the end of term then there will be nothing for sure until September, if ever. Still hoping and dreaming. And as I said to my boy, look at Jamie Vardy... nobody thought when he was a teenager and in his twenties that he was good enough for top flight football, he wasn't even in the premier league and had been passed over by the 'best judges' - and now he s the top scorer in the Premiership. Never give up! xxxx

My son is on reserve list for music, year 12 at Brit School, and we were told conflicting things. One person said all those on the list for music got in last year and to be hopeful. Someone else then told us that 6 got in from the reserve list and that it was a long shot. Someone else told us that the list depends on what your specialty is, what your gender is and whether or not you're in or out of catchment - so they like to replace like with like. I wish it were clearer!

Brookesr · 12/05/2016 10:16

HI Bigel, how you holding up? xxx

Brookesr · 12/05/2016 16:54

Bigel how you doing ? x

Brookesr · 14/06/2016 12:29

Hi any news? x

bigel · 14/06/2016 13:04

Hello, brookesr, its me again. Weve not heard anything and I still jump every time the land line goes! Thinking about it again a lot... I guess because at school he has finished exams and its all about planning for September - and I wish that we were headed for Brit. My Ds told me last week that he thinks about it every day. Anything your side? xxx

Hi Bigel

No we haven't heard anything either. I know that a girl just got in on appeal for my daughters course. To be honest i wasn't willing to put her through the whole process again, because if you appeal and are unsuccessful the letter said you then forfeit your reserve place. I chose to respect The Brit schools decision. Hopefully a place will come up xxx

Hello! Just to say that a friend's friend has been offered a reserve place for musical theatre... i was wondering if it was you! Nothing for us at all... I'm actually sending ds to a therapist over the summer as he's struggling a lot at the moment. Feel very guilty for having put him through it. Still hoping that there is good news for us. xxx

HI Bigel

No unfortunately that wasn't us ! Good to hear the reserve list is going down though ! Will keep hoping. I know it is so stressful hoping & praying for a place. Ive told my daughter it doesn't look possible now trying to get her ready for the big fall ! If we get a phone call it will be a massive bonus ! She's keeping herself busy doing things she loves. Dancing in Theatre, joining another dance class tomorrow night. Musical theatre classes in the summer. Ive also given her more time out to see her friends after school as the nights are getting lighter. So I'm doing the worrying and panicking for her but in the same time getting her prepared for not getting into the brit school, so if we get a letter saying she's been taken off the reserve list its not going to be a big blow - slowly giving up the hope! Its very hard on the kids, but I suppose it is getting them used to knocks that they will get through out life. Hope your son is ok? xxx

bigel · 13/07/2016 12:42

hello brookesr and familynash! Glad to hear that your daughter is taking it all like a champ, Brookesr, that is brilliant. We too are scheduling lots of music over the holidays and just enjoying a break from the pressure as well. Im thinking of both of you all the time - Im afraid I don't believe in prayer or higher powers - but Im sending lots of positive vibes your way. Please let me know if anything happens over the summer. My boy is playing in Kingston on Saturday so Im looking forward to that! Heres the flyer. I salute them all, its not easy to try but you can't succeed unless you do. xxx

Hi Coconutty, Yes I'm emailing them a lot ! The lady in admissions is so lovely and always tries to keep me positive. Although it is down to the musical director on who he/she takes from the reserve list. So can't get a number on what reserve place my daughter is :( xxxxx

bigel · 14/07/2016 14:34

Well, you have made me brave because I just called for the first time! Learned absolutely nothing of course. There is movement across the strands and there tends to be movement still between now and mid September when they close. They just get told by the department heads who to call... Now I'm nervous again!

A friend of my daughters auditioned for theatre stand and didn't get in, but then she was sent another letter saying she could apply for another stand - Interactive Digital Design and got in ! Wish we was given that option, as then she could of taken musical theatre as an option :( x Do you think its because reserve places are usually filled? x

jumagoo780 · 29/07/2016 18:28

Has your son looked at www.elam.co.uk
My daughter auditioned there and it was fab.

Brookesr · 08/08/2016 10:33

Good morning all

We have just received a letter saying its not likely at this stage our daughter will gain a place ! we was so close :( x

bigel · 08/08/2016 10:45

oh no! how devastating. I guess we will have to expect to get one of those as well. I think I won't tell him if it comes. Too sad. xxx to you both.

Hi Bigel

I did email the lovely lady in the office to thank her for her support over the last few months and she did reply saying everyone is getting the letter over the holidays but to still not give up hope ! The list is open until 3 rd week of September and anything could happen. TIme to face reality though for us. Going to move on from it :) xxx

bigel · 08/08/2016 12:57

I thought probably everyone gets one and it still doesnt rule out a September drop out. But yes, maybe its time to move on.
My son now doesnt even want to apply for sixth form...

I can understand that, its is an awful blow to get. I haven't told my daughter about the letter ! xx

JaneAustinAllegro · 09/08/2016 16:35

ladies - are you aware of ELAM? I don't know if it's too late for you to start looking at it, but it's an academy school set up by Will Kennard from Chase & Status with his brother who is a head teacher. There's some overlap in the parties who support the school with those who support / fund the Brit school, and many of their pupils get excellent work placement schemes in relevant organisations. Because it's newer, people aren't as aware of it (someone also mentioned LIPA above, which is excellent and also BIMM in Brighton. As fantastic as the Brit school is, there are others doing similar work too!)
