Switchitoff and horsemad I think you should both wear a red rose or something, in case you spot each other Grin

switchitoff · 01/08/2015 08:56

Flight just landed.....and breathe!

Horsemad · 01/08/2015 12:58

DS just home and showering to go to work!!! Shock

Horsemad · 01/08/2015 14:33

Grin at the red rose HSMMaCM!

spudmasher · 01/08/2015 17:16

Switchitoff and Horsemad, did you see each other??!! Glad they are back all safe and sound.

DDs student handbook arrived today- there are things on the uniform list I've never heard of- New Yorkers? Flesh coloured body stocking? Black fishnets??!!! I know what THEY are! Oh god. I mourn the days when we had a trip to Staples for a pack of biros and some coloured pencils.Sad

Horsemad · 01/08/2015 17:30

Lol at the uniform list spudmasher!

I wasn't at Heathrow so didn't see Switchitoff Smile. We could've had a coffee if we were there at the same time!

TeenAndTween · 01/08/2015 18:16

I was at Heathrow at lunchtime collecting DD1 back from 3 weeks in Spain. I too can breathe again. Smile She had a brilliant time apart from the IV line needed half way through

Horsemad · 01/08/2015 18:46

The IV line??? Shock

spudmasher · 01/08/2015 19:11

IV?? Hope all is well.

It's August......less than three weeks now.

TeenAndTween · 01/08/2015 19:32

Um, yes. 5 days of what turned out to be Gastroenteritis. I nearly flew out, but she was miles better after 1hour on IV and said I didn't need to come. She enjoyed the first 4 days and the last 11 days though, and claims to have improved her Spanish too (not that I have any clue about that). Relieved to have her home.

spud Trying not to think about 3rd week of August. Concentrating on the next 2 first!

spudmasher · 01/08/2015 19:46

Blimey. Well done for holding your nerve and thanks be for your daughter's health and recovery. Glad she managed a good time despite the unwellness in the middle.

Sorry for the countdown. DH and I have resolved just to embrace the outcome whatever. We've even started to discuss 'reaction faces'. We will be on holiday (first one in quite a while with other Dc too ) at the time, and results are being emailed......we really don't want to ruin the holiday for us or them. Though DD is threatening not to share - results emailed directly to her, not us.

Horsemad · 01/08/2015 21:42

Glad your DD was OK Teen, that was always at the back of my mind - what if he was ill abroad. He's come back with a cough/chest infection and his ears played him up when diving, but hopefully nothing too troublesome.
He's been showing me some underwater filming he did, looks amazing. A dolphin touched/nudged him! Grin

HSMMaCM · 01/08/2015 22:20

Teen we took one of DD's friends away with us on holiday and I ended up in hospital with her on an IV line. It was an interesting call to her mother! We all arrived home healthy though.

switchitoff · 01/08/2015 22:28

Teen - glad your DD is better, that sounds like it must have been very worrying for you.

I wasn't at Heathrow today (XH drove the DCs back) but will be there tomorrow afternoon dropping DS1 off for his next adventure. So if anyone else is there, say hello! I'll be the one trying to look supremely calm waving DS1 off again, whilst my heart is actually all of a flutter.

bigTillyMint · 02/08/2015 05:51

Spud, will we have a celeb DD on this thread?!

Wow to all those intrepid travelling DC - very impressive. And we'll done to all the nerve - holding DM's tooSmile

Not really thinking about/bothered about results atm - doesn't seem that real from this side of the globe. But I'm sure I will be a quivering wreck when I get back.

spudmasher · 02/08/2015 07:40

BigTillyMint on the other side of the world, that is her plan A!! And who am I to crush her dreams- she's made a pretty good go of it so far. However, it's a nasty, fickle, cruel business so I'm studiously plotting her plan B which is why I'm so interested in the GCSE results..........

Switchitoff, where is DS1 off to?

switchitoff · 02/08/2015 10:05

Spudmaster, how exciting for your DD and you are quite right not to hold her back. The uniform list made me laugh!

DS1 is off to India today. He will be volunteering at various health/education projects in the rural backwaters (limited electricity, no mains water, 80% illiteracy, that sort of thing) and at a Calcutta school for street children. Am feeling a lot calmer now that his accommodation has been finalised - it was only sorted a couple of days ago. Shock

Am definitely NOT thinking about the time he returned with a potentially fatal illness and was hospitalised in an isolation ward. Or the time he returned with a parasite infection that the London School of Tropical Medicine had to deal with. Or the two times when he's flown and his ear-drum has burst due to the change in air pressure, so that now he has a bionic ear-drum.

Oh no, not me. I am calmness personified.

spudmasher · 02/08/2015 10:29

Respect to Switchitoff.
The trip sounds amazing and straight back atcha with not holding him back.

spudmasher · 02/08/2015 21:10

Went to london today and bought the black and flesh coloured fishnets, plus flesh body stocking, multi various shoes, leotards, skirts and dance trousers. I now have a sore thumb from sewing in name tags. DD is mortified that all her new college clothes have name tags complete with little elephant embroidered- leftovers from Year 7- but I'm damned if they get lost and have to be replaced at even more cost. Even the knee pads have name tags.

SugarPlumTree · 03/08/2015 07:06

Fair play for holdinh your nerve Switchitoff, that's quite some list he has chalked up !

Glad DD is ok T&T, can only imagine how stressful it must have been with the IV line.

Grin at Spudmasher and her little elephants, made my morning reading that !

All calm here touch wood so trying to enjoy it whilst it lasts .

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2015 22:24

Wow, switch, how's he got into that at such a tender age? Seriously impressed!

dingit · 04/08/2015 02:03

Just catching up on thread, wow your dc have had amazing summers.
Dd isn't doing bad either, we are currently on holiday in California, but since the 1st August arrived, she's been doing a results day countdown.
It going to be a long flight home ( I know what she will be talking about)

TeenAndTween · 04/08/2015 11:35

Love the elephants too! DD1 has cats on her nametapes, but these days I fold them under so they don't show.

Switch very impressed by your DS. Especially after all the illnesses!

HSMMaCM · 04/08/2015 15:25

DD has signed authority to collect results for a friend. She is now more worried about having to give her friend bad news than she is about her own results Grin.
