sorry but you are mad to be even considering G&L - I have nothing against the school, I went there myself and it was brilliant but I would not have thanked my parents if they'd made me take 3 trains to get there. I've just turned down a job which would have had a similar commute as it just wasn't feasible 5 days a week

I struggle to agree with your hypothesis that G&L is more selective than LEH. I know several girls who have gone there in the last year or two because they didn't get LEH. Does that make it less selective than LEH? Probably not but illustrates the fact that the margins between getting into these schools and not is very tight, and some exams suit some children better than others.

I agree that the 2014 leavers destinations aren't as impressive from LEH, but as Poisonwood has said above and many times on different threads, the class of 2014 at LEH was a bit atypical. Other people's leavers destinations are irrelevant anyway - if your daughter proves to be Oxbridge/Yale/Harvard material she will have a good chance of achieving that from either school. But like others I'm not sure that a US degree course is what a typical 10 or 11 year old aspires to Blush

I will soon have 4 children at 4 different indies in this area - but what all have in common is a very straightforward journey and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Not wishing to open this up again (although I think you're being a bit hard on the OP, who seems to be saying that she was hoping her DD would be convinced in favour of LEH) - but just to clarify for anyone reading that Lacrosse is not played at Godolphin at all.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 01/03/2015 12:09

Agree, OP ended up by saying she'd prefer LEH but dd was leaning towards G&L, HOWEVER, I would say to move house because a 10/11-year-old child expresses a preference for a school is absurd.

Mulberry10 thanks for your earlier post.As decision day is looming are you generally very happy with your choice of G&L and is there anything you don't
like about it?

cristalclear · 02/03/2015 19:00

After careful consideration and Second sight at both schools ,my daughter decided that she wants to go to LEH after all. That will make some parents who want they daughter to go to G&L ,very happy. I trust my daughter's instinct and I'm sure that she will flourish at the new school.
She has shown more maturity than I was expecting, taking into consideration all the pros and cons and gave me the courage to make this decision.Sometimes we are not clever than a 10 years old.

That's good to hear - I'm sure she'll be very happy at LEH and she'll be very busy as a music scholar. My niece is very active in music there and it's a fantastically high standard and the musicians get some wonderful opportunities.

If you'd lived closer to G&L I'd have been suggesting that instead - not having a stressful commute at this age (or any age, frankly) makes such a difference :)

Mulberry10 · 02/03/2015 21:46

Well done cristal - I'm sure you and your DD will be really pleased with your decision.

Lynharvey - if it's not too late - we are really pleased with our choice of G&L. I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about it. We came from state primary and there was a bit of an adjustment, but nothing that would have been any different at any of the other high achieving private schools. It really is a lovely, warm, happy school which manages to get very good results without any obvious pressure. Are you still thinking LU though?

Lynharvey · 02/03/2015 23:57

Thanks Mulberry 10 that's very useful to know. We will probably leave the decision to DD as we don't think there's much between the two and both have their advantages.

Thumbwitch · 03/03/2015 01:55

Oh phew, really pleased to hear it Cristal! I hope she has a wonderful time there and gets as much out of it as she can :)

Great news, congratulations to your dd. Hope she has a wonderful time.
