Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

OP posts:
HelloNewman · 12/08/2015 22:45

Good luck everyone.

Capewrath · 12/08/2015 22:55

MrsU, of course I won't get it confirmed until 6 am but he told me what he did and in maths it's quite easy to know what you did or didn't do right. I then went on to TSR for each if the maths papers and they have some wizard there who seems to get the grade boundaries right within a pp. So I confirmed the TSR GBs with the ones released today. Heigh ho, displacement activity we go. Tis shit.

History is more dubious.

BatterednotBruised · 12/08/2015 23:15

We have had tears after finally looking at grade boundaries . Glad she looked though as she is now more prepared mentally. DD wants to study English at uni and had been confident at least with this subject, history is the unknown. OCR showing 54 out of 60 and 36 out of 40 for an A in English, hence the tears and complete reevaluation of her choices but at least she is no longer walking in with high expectation. Oh and now she is getting the bus as doesn't want me waiting in car! Let's see if that's still the case at 9am :)

Capewrath · 12/08/2015 23:29

Ba

Capewrath · 12/08/2015 23:32

Battered, the history GBs have put the wind up DS too.

Did you know that some dutch universities teach in English, that their tuition fees are only £2000 v £9000 here, that if you gave done well in GCSEs you are pretty qualified already, and that you work hard but are eminently employable after? And much harder to send your washing home...

MadamArcatiAgain · 13/08/2015 00:21

D's quietly confident but I don't know if that is a good thing.setting yourself up for disappointment I fear.I am a bag of nerves as have seen you need 85% raw score for an A with AQA

Northernlurker · 13/08/2015 00:32

Ah bugger - there goes my careful avoidance of the specifics of grade boundaries! Should have avoided the thread till tomorrow!

85% - the poor kids :(

Dunlurking · 13/08/2015 06:23

Am I first up? Leaving in an hour t drive in to collect ds results as he is away. He texted me late last night after checking the GBs saying "I'm not going to get any As" (needs 3) so have spent night feeling sick at thought that I have to see these results first then tell him by text.

When I checked GB I thought they looked OK in my ignorance but apparently they have gone up not down in his 2 most important subjects.

Good luck to all your dcs.

MadamArcatiAgain · 13/08/2015 07:02

we can't collect them til 10 o clock. they give out the A2 s at 9 am

Capewrath · 13/08/2015 07:04

,dun, also up. . DS asleep. Good luck on the drive. I have the results and they are worse than DS feared. What he feared in one subject, down in another. A bummer. Hope it goes well for yours.

ISingSoprano · 13/08/2015 07:07

We have DD's results -not stellar but ok. She is not over the moon but she thinks they are fair and knows she has a lot of work to do next year.

Good luck everyone.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 13/08/2015 07:32

Our wifi had its intermittently wobbly so I could no log on !!! - and did not want to get DS up to sort it out - vision of driving to McDonalds to get wifiGrin.
Luckily managed to find a cable to connect and login - the results look good except that I know DS was fretting about UMS scores would determine his uni choices, not the actual grades - so still ne to wait for him to get up and tell us.
The best score is on the subject he was intending to drop for A2..
Good luck to everyone who has to wait or go in - drive safely

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 13/08/2015 07:43

10.00 for us too, A2s at 7.00.
Good luck everyone.

Ours are online at 9 - DS also still asleep! I feel so nervous I can't eat any breakfast.

Unexpected · 13/08/2015 08:36

DS1 got 3 As in geog, Biol and DT! We are on hols and he could log in from 6 am UK time. He eventually arrived about 8 a.m UK time in our room. Really, really pleased , slightly disappointed with his C in music but he is not continuing that anyway. Music results we have heard so far are dreadful, don't know if it is school related or more general. Anyway, off to enjoy the rest of the holiday!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 13/08/2015 08:42

pretty good grades here, but UMS not what's needed for Oxbridge Sad. Everyone she's spoken to has done worse in one particular subject (which we know was taught badly - first half of term they spent doing PP presentations in groups Shock), so not sure if it's worth thinking about a remark.

But, as we've been pointing out through the tears, she's still on track for some pretty good unis, and she knows what she needs to do next year.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for results Smile

UhtredOfBebbanburg · 13/08/2015 08:45

unexoectd - superb results. Well done to your DS. DD1 won't find out till 1pm at the earliest. I won't tell her what you said about Music. I really hope it's just your school not music in general! Which board was it?

MadamArcatiAgain · 13/08/2015 08:51

Right! I am going to wake sleeping beauty now so we can be there for 10.

Northernlurker · 13/08/2015 09:04

We can go at 10. Dd has cleaned two bathrooms and tidied the hall and shoe rack. Just gone on her bike to collect a parcel from the post office. I feel sick too. I think I might need gin to get me through next year!

MorvahRising · 13/08/2015 09:11

9 am has come and gone and DS is still asleep!

I am sitting on the stairs waiting for signs of life and paying solitaire on the iPad. I keep saying to myself that if I finish the game before he wakes up he will have got good results . . . . . . but have now finished three games and am still not convinced . . . . . . !

Northernlurker I was just thinking the same - what sort of state will we all be in next year?!

Dunlurking · 13/08/2015 09:19

2As a B and a D (which he was going to drop anyway) + B for General Studies. Very happy with the 2As but the B in Maths will be a BIG problem as got 2Bs and a C in his 3 papers so no way will his teacher give him an A prediction so he either has to have a year off and work v hard or revise aspirations for courses/universities Sad

Well done to your dcs with results so far. Looking good or reasonable to me. Fingers crossed to those still waiting. I know my ds is disappointed so feeling for those of you in similar position.

Leeds2 · 13/08/2015 09:34

My DD is very happy with her grades, although I have to confess I don't really know what the UMS mean! Is there a short, sharp definition anywhere?

Congratulations to those DC who are pleased, commiserations to those who didn't do as well as they hoped. I hope they all enjoy a stress free day.

zazas · 13/08/2015 09:36

My DD is refusing to go collect hers! Has been crying on and off for two days and is convinced she has failed everything! Her boyfriend has received his and he's 'disappointed' with his 2 A, 1B, 1D so now she doubly sure she's failed! Was really happy with how the exams went so hopefully it's all just nerves!

I can hear she's in the shower now so maybe we will get there Smile

Secretsquirrels · 13/08/2015 09:43

Compared with the wait for A levels last year for DS1 this was easy.
In spite of saying he wasn't getting up early he did.
He got 4 As and is a happy DS. Surprisingly his best subject was not the one he wanted to do at uni.

Dunlurking sorry your DS is disappointed.

MorvahRising I suggest some frantic hoovering outside his bedroom door.
