Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

OP posts:

Morning all! Here we go again - DS has computing this morning. This is his worst week - five exams.

Marni23 · 01/06/2015 08:03

Ouch Morvah 5 is a lot.

Good luck to him and all others with exams this week.

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/06/2015 08:08

Good luck to young Master Morvah! Lots of vitamins and cosseting this week I think :)

What other exams do people have this week? Hope they're all doing ok Star

Leeds2 · 01/06/2015 09:05

dd has Biology this afternoon, then Chemistry tomorrow. That is it!!

ISingSoprano · 01/06/2015 09:17

Biology today, English tomorrow, maths on Wednesday. Then FREEDOM - for four days before back to college for the start of A2 courses on Monday.

Narvinectralonum · 01/06/2015 09:21

Music tomorrow, then A2 General studies next week and week after. Biggest issue this morning though was getting up early to watch Game of Thrones but NOW TV having issues. 3 kids went off to school highly pissed off. It's working now though. Grin Obviously I've emailed them all to tell them how good it was. I'm sure that will brighten their days... (Evil grin)

zazas · 01/06/2015 12:36

Chemistry tomorrow and then Maths on Wednesday and then we get our DD back as someone who is not be emotionally all over the place! Narvinectralonum - that made me laugh! DD has said she will wait to Wednesday to watch...not convinced she will!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 01/06/2015 12:59

Chemistry tomorrow as well (DD still needs to re-read the pre-release [sigh]) and Stats on Friday. Then back to school next week straight into Y13.

We're also having massive Oxbridge wobbles here, as Geography is so difficult to call, plus DD "only" got an A in C2 (from the unofficial mark scheme on the Student Room). But how can they talk to anyone else about an A not being good enough?

Narvinectralonum · 01/06/2015 14:52

Surely A is the highest grade possible at AS? I thought it was all about how good the A was (ie UMS). DD1 has emailed me to say she isn't going to watch it till tomorrow but I think that's daft. She has to eat this evening, she might as well watch GoT while she is eating. And she needs some downtime. Her siblings will certainly not wait until tomorrow that's for sure.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 01/06/2015 15:00

Have never seen GoT, but completely get where your DD is coming form.
When I was doing my dissertation last year, I could not allow myself any treats, even tho' yes there was downtime to eat etc, just is too high-alert a state.
She can enjoy it properly when it is all over - indulge her!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 01/06/2015 15:01

yes, but it needs to be a v high A, so just scraping one doesn't help for Cambridge Sad.

Leeds2 · 01/06/2015 15:21

What is the Chemistry pre-release, MyVisions? DD ia doing Chemistry, no idea what board, but I have never heard her mention such a thing.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 01/06/2015 15:38

OCR give you a booklet in advance with some stuff (technical term!) I think it's a technical article then in the exam there are questions on a nd related to it. They get it in advance as it's not always from stuff specifically in the course (I think). V helpful chap on Youtube has gone through it explaining everything and suggesting possible questions that may come up.

Unexpected · 01/06/2015 16:00

Anyone else's DC doing OCR Biology this afternoon? DS has texted to say it was ok but not amazing.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 01/06/2015 16:04

DS is /was doing OCR biology this afternoon. No word from him yet - and first I have heard of a booklet...Shock

catslife · 01/06/2015 16:36

Just to clarify (and stop last minute panics) the syllabus with a pre-release booklet for Chemistry is OCR B (Salters).

Leeds2 · 01/06/2015 17:09

I don't think my DD can be doing OCR B. At least I hope not!

MorvahRising · 01/06/2015 17:30

DS said computing was OK luckily. It's his best subject, but he was almost more worried about it than maths in case he blew it on the subject he should be able to up his UMS points on . . . . .

Hope the biologists did OK today. Unexpected I find that 'OK' is probably the best I can hope for; I think I'd be quite worried if DS described a paper as amazing! Hopefully your DS has done himself justice!

MrsUltracrepidarian · 01/06/2015 17:33

All I got re biology was an 'OK' Grin

LIZS · 01/06/2015 17:39

Politics ok today , only one to go now'

Narvinectralonum · 01/06/2015 18:59

DD1 has been told today that following on from her post 16 evaluation, 25% extra time is in place with immediate effect. Sadly she just has the one exam left, tomorrow! And the A2 general studies papers I suppose but she has barely even thought about them yet.

ancientbuchanan · 01/06/2015 21:07

Huge wobbles here. 4 more maths.

Narvinectralonum · 01/06/2015 21:52

Got a phone call this evening from DD1's flute teacher - she got distinction for her grade 8 which she took a few weeks ago. So that's 3 grade 8s now. She is very very happy and relieved and hopefully it will put her in a good frame of mind for her music AS tomorrow. DD2 grouching around wondering why her piano teacher didn't ring her with her result! But that was a much lower grade so I'm not surprised.

Matteus21 · 02/06/2015 08:20

Can't relate to chemistry, maths, Oxbridge or game of thrones, anyone else out there? ! ??DD has finished exams & next step is open days. Trying to get her to do some planning for these ( I've booked them for her while she was busy with exams) and also some job hunting, can't see a lot of progress with either! Open days take up pretty much every weekend in June, I'm exhausted already ... It's just me & her going, her friends are going to some of the same ones but not on the same days. There seem to be so many talks & tours going on it looks tiring, & we've got at least 3 in 3 different cities on consecutive days. Wish they were spread out a bit more. What's other people's open day schedules like?

KittiesInsane · 02/06/2015 08:53

Um... zilch! DS seems to be so despondent about the whole AS business that he doesn't see the point in going to any open days.
