Congrats to those of you with firm offers. Charlie I have just spoken to admissions at Reed's and he told me that he doesn't expect many (if any) boys to be promoted from the reserve list as the head has made a lot of offers. He said that last year no one made it off the reserve list which is odd as my son's tutor had a pupil last year who, according to her, did exactly that.
Not holding out much hope but hey ho. Hmm

Thanks for the update Flower - disappointing. Still waiting for results from 2 others, so fingers crossed for them then!

Congrats to others who have firm offers.

Hi all... How is it going? Any news for those waiting on scholarships? Roll on the 13th when we hear from hampton and can make a decision either way!

Had the sports schol testing Mon. Really don't understand why parents put their DC up for it, even if it's a second sport, when they are clearly nowhere near enough a high enough standard.

Don't know when we will hear, would guess early next week sometime and then roll on Fri 13th!

abbadabbadoo · 05/02/2015 12:36

Waitingandhoping - which sport were you referring too? DS said there were about 31 boys so potentially half of those who were offered places. He did say the standard was mixed but he enjoyed the day and it was a good opportunity to mix with the other boys from which some if not all will be going there. They weighted and measured them and they performed some gym tests - the 'beep' test being the main one -and clearly some struggled. They mentioned one schol per sport were potentially up for grabs but will depend on the standard and whether they really want the boy there as any reduction on fees is welcome - which is why it was well attended!

Waitingandhoping2015 · 05/02/2015 13:57

I'm referring to cricket. Even as the second sport offered you would expect them to be District level (regardless of sport). The bleep test is pretty old fashioned these days, and I believe that they did it after other exercises and sprinting so not surprised they all found it hard and probably scored less than they would have expected!

sazzy5 · 05/02/2015 17:29

Waiting cricket could be the third sport as some sports weren't assessed on the day, it would be hard for a child to be county standard for more than 2 sports. As long as they enjoyed it and got to meet some potential friends that is the main thing.

Waitingandhoping2015 · 05/02/2015 17:34

Indeed. And that's very true in this era of (too) early specialisation. Great school, can't recommend it highly enough for the right boy.

flowerlindsay · 11/02/2015 20:20

Charlie, how are you getting on with your school choices? I guess we should hear from Reed's in the next couple of weeks with a yes or no. I'll be pleased when this is all over!

charlief0001 · 12/02/2015 12:58

Hi Flower - all a bit stressful but DS now has been offered an academic scholarship at another school. Reeds remains his first choice. I understand we will hear circa 4th March? Been hearing horror stories from others, so just thanking my lucky stars I guess!

flowerlindsay · 12/02/2015 16:18

That's great news Charlie. Congrats to your DS. What kind of horror stories....do you mean not getting any offers? Yes, it's so stressful. It wasn't like this back in the 80's when I took my entrance exam!
My other son is in Year 4 so we may well be doing it all over again with the 10+ in a year's time??
Have you spoken to the admissions department at Reed's? If so, just wondered if you were given the same response as me.

charlief0001 · 12/02/2015 16:41

Yes, some people not getting into schools and it all being a bit random. Apparently very competitive this year - lots of children and not enough places... Our school called Reeds and was told we would hear circa 4th March. Fingers crossed! Good luck Flower

Teddingtonmum1 · 12/02/2015 23:47

Just a quick message to wish everyone luck , sorry to hear in the name did you find somewhere else ? Don't give up FlowerLindsay time to sharpen the elbows do you know where you are on the list ? Its not over till its over ... I remember this time last year I was a total wreak from the entrance exam to accepting the place. How I held down a job I don't know cause I couldn't concentrate on anything else !!.
DS is now 6 months in as a weekly boarding, the first few weeks were touch and go but now his settling down and grades are improving and his knuckling down, I can't recommend Reeds highly enough boys are so polite nearly fell over when I heard my DS talking to his housemaster yes sir no sir had to check i was taking home the right child.

flowerlindsay · 15/02/2015 07:36

Thanks Teddingtonmum for your words of encouragement! Not sure where we are on the list....I didn't ask him. I was thinking of calling again but didn't want to come across as desperate or a pain in the a**e! ??

ladygrinningsoul · 15/02/2015 09:29

The significance of 4th March is that the deadline for accepting the 13+ offers for year 9 entry in 2017 (and paying a substantial deposit) is 3rd March. This is the first year that Reed's have run the 13+ and 11+ at the same time for what will end up being the same year (the 13+ used to be done in Year 7) so there may be a bit of fluidity between the number of places they allocate for each intake depending on how many 13+ acceptances they get.

flowerlindsay · 27/02/2015 21:16

Thanks for clarifying ladygrinningsoul....just waiting for next Wednesday now. Anyone else had any updates?

Waitingandhoping2015 · 27/02/2015 22:36

No update for you but we declined the Reeds offer last week and two others I know also did.

Best of luck to anyone waiting to hear.

flowerlindsay · 03/03/2015 18:47

Just heard from Reed's....more acceptances than usual so no boys on the waiting list are being offered any placesSad
Good luck to everyone else.
