I'm a weeny bit cross that there hasn't been a SW/W London Independent schools thread this yr.

Every blinking year there is one - and I read, and nod, and note. Sometimes they go on for months and pages. But this year, when I'm actually doing it - pah, not a sausage.

If anyone wants to do a last minute SPGS/Latymer/Godolphin/ KGS/LEH/WHS/PHS thread, please do! (disclaimer - I'm not doing all of those.). But views welcome. Because I've got several days to form my final views Smile

Is it just me or is anyone else imagining all those envelopes with offers (or otherwise) winging their way out of all these schools today??

I know a lovely boy just coming out the other end and St James was very good for him in his parents' opinion. They felt it helped him to think about the world he lives in & its problems & challenges. They have another at Grammar school and the invigorating pace suited that DS perfectly too.

My understanding of the meditation is that it is a pause of 10 minutes or so and sharpens the boys' focus. If they choose to meditate. Daydreaming or reading apparently also OK. Vegetarianism - well, it's a meal a day & they do seem to be rather yummy meals. Best to ask questions of any child doing the tour.

Chillax - I'm thinking about envelopes as well. The thing which intrigues/annoys me is that the envelope/letter exists and is either in a school office or a sorting office tonight. They have my name on it and I want it NOW. That sounds a bit petulant but it's how I feel.

Out all day tomorrow so won't be posting an update early. Can others post whether they get WHS results so at least I can be reassured it's on the doormat waiting for me?

Sure DD is far less bothered than I am (she really REALLY wants KGS, though!) She also has a really exciting day at school tomorrow and hasn't asked recently about when the results come out (definitely one who lives in the moment...how I envy her sometimes) 'Tis I who is excited/apprehensive in equal measure Blush mind you, her tendency to live in the moment and not do any preparation for the exams might be her undoing

Does anyone know why KGS sends out the girls offers first? Just interested to know if the early responses have any impact on the number of boys offers sent out.

There is an agreement amongst many of the boys schools to send out offers on the same day, 13th February this year, so that is why the boys are held til then.
There is no agreement amongst the girls so i guess they just send them out when they choose.
The acceptance date is the same though for boys and girls, just after the state offers are out, so i doubt it has any impact on boys' numbers.

I think we need some cogitation re envelope sizes...

The accepted wisdom seems to be that a small envelope could mean anything but a big envelope is always good news.

Anyone any tips on what we should be specifically looking out for?

IME a big envelope is good news, small envelope is either a No or Waiting List.
That said, I believe Surbiton send big envelopes for Waiting List as well!

I got a medium (A5) envelope for surbiton wait list and a small envelope for LEH rejection. Large A4 envelope for an offer!

For Reeds offer got an A4 envelope which was fairly thick as had recent ISI report in in. I gather a rejection letter was thin and normal sized envelope.

It would generally be helpful if schools could standardise on A4 for offer, A5 for waitlist, and standard for rejection...
