How much is your child's state school blazer?

I've been told some can be very expensive - my son's blazer is £30 but you have the option to just buy a badge and sew it onto a generic supermarket blazer.

Boys' grammar £65

Tansie · 24/07/2014 18:31

In 1973 my girls' GS blazer cost 35 quid!

HibiscusIsland · 28/07/2014 08:53

Bloody hell Isthisanacud. What sort of state secondary is it? The blazer for our state secondary is £28

HibiscusIsland · 28/07/2014 08:54

Isthisanacid

Bunbaker · 28/07/2014 08:57

£32.50. I can only get it from the school because the logo is an intrinsic part of the blazer. Buying a generic blazer and sewing on a badge isn't possible. The school doesn't profit from blazer sales BTW (I know as I am on the finance committee)

Floggingmolly · 28/07/2014 08:58

£150. Available from Peter Jones only, for some unfathomable reason.

AnnDaloozier · 28/07/2014 08:59

28£. And it's really up itself. The school

AnnDaloozier · 28/07/2014 08:59

150? State school?

andmyunpopularopionis · 28/07/2014 09:10

£83 for prep school. Normally do 2nd hand but he is so big there are none.

It is wool though... And £20 for a cap.

pigsinmud · 28/07/2014 09:54

£35 with badge

JustRichmal · 28/07/2014 14:53

Does anyone know if the profit sharing schemes between schools and shops has been stopped? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-24095539

HeleneCixous · 28/07/2014 20:21

£22 plus badge which the outfitters ironed on for us then and there

£170 for everything except footwear, state grammar. Logo'd PE kit a big outlay Hmm

HPparent · 28/07/2014 20:31

£60-70 but it is really a suit jacket (for girls and boys). For the first year at school they did a package for £99 excluding the pe kit. The third year they moved into their posh new building and the price was about £230 quid. Such poor value quality we have to replace every year! Comprehensive school btw. I think the school subsidises uniform for low income families.

kurlique · 29/07/2014 22:32

RE profit sharing, when our state primary school changed uniform supplier, it was an option (eg. rounding up to the nearest 50p or £ sort of thing) but the governors rejected it (we would never do summat like that!) and the uniform (sweatshirts etc) is really good value as the products fit and doesn't fray or fade and everyone loves that the parents can buy direct rather than through the school. Now I have only private secondary uniforms to buy... and no hand-me-downs as boys and girls uniforms are totally different (except the sports hoody and that is personalised with their first and last names!!) Bracing myself for the trip to the school shop for DD who is just about to start... at least DS has finally stopped growing like a weed and only needs shirts for once! The jackets are NOT cheap but definitely well under £100... still reeling from the £114 Grammar School Blazer post Shock

babasheep · 04/08/2014 22:20

Normal quality £28+. Good quality £53+. I bought the latter for my will be yr7. It does look smarter.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/08/2014 22:26

Normal quality or good quality? Nice. A two tier blazer system to show the rich kids from the poor ones.

This thread is making me cross.

Bloody ridiculous prices.

LynetteScavo · 04/08/2014 22:49

£28, a nylon Trutex blazer with badge embroidered on.

Two shop assistants both insisted it was the perfect size, despite the arms reaching down to DSs knuckles. Hmm I'm sure well get our moneys worth out of it.

Jellypudmum · 04/08/2014 22:52

Not state school but £90 and my dd is only 8!!!

babasheep · 04/08/2014 22:55

Hmm her school s changed logo. I got mine less than half the price because it got the old school logo on. But yes I know what you mean.

appealtakingovermylife · 05/08/2014 00:48

Weirdly, when looking at uniform list for ds New school, y7 entry, there is no blazer:(

MilkRunningOutAgain · 05/08/2014 09:12

£28 for logoed blazer. Most of the uniform is logoed and has to come from the uniform supplier. But the whole lot ( blazer, 2 logoed trousers , 1 logoed jumper, logoed PE polo shirt, logoed rugby type jumper, special design PE socks, shorts and jogging bottoms ) came to £150 almost exactly. Which I think is good value. Now I just need to buy shoes, football boots and trainers!

Ragwort · 05/08/2014 09:15

Sweatshirts at my DS's school - and, prepared to be flamed Grin, but I wish they did wear blazer and tie, they all look scruffy. I know this will make me sound like an old fuddy duddy but one of the girls came to do work experience with me and was dressed totally inappropriately - how hard is it to look reasonably smart and well presented? Hmm

noisyhome · 05/08/2014 12:57

£55 and trousers £27 - generic styles not allowed!'

JanetWeb2812 · 12/08/2014 16:39

Supermarket sweatshirts and polos and we buy iron-on badges from the school (5 for a fiver).

MollyBdenum · 12/08/2014 16:45

No blazers for my local state schools (yay!). The state grammar school I attended has a blazer costing around £55 depending on where you get it, and in what size.
