I've been told some can be very expensive - my son's blazer is £30 but you have the option to just buy a badge and sew it onto a generic supermarket blazer.

Blazer is £30, skirt is £40.

Muskey · 21/07/2014 19:33

We bought it really big lets hope dd doesn't grow too quickly

SpottyTits · 21/07/2014 19:38

£19.95 but next door are passing on their daughters to us as she's a year above mine. One big cost taken care of just the rest of the full set of uniform to buy as she can't even use her old school socks!

boys3 · 21/07/2014 22:31

£25 with badge and braid on pockets all already sewn on. 5% discount from one of the suppliers if purchased before end July, saving the princely sum of £2.50, or 2.5 maths' sets.

Deecam18 · 21/07/2014 22:48

£30 no logo's on any of dd's new uniform but still cost a fortune to buy.

steppemum · 21/07/2014 23:12

£35

I bought a second hand one for £5 (brand new quality) But it is too big, so will still have to buy a smaller one for this year

pointythings · 22/07/2014 09:59

£24 - £38 depending on size. They last very well - DD1's has lasted two years, one of the pockets needs stitching but it will give DD2 another year once she grows into it. They go in the machine on a delicate cycle, airing cupboard on a hanger overnight, job done.

I used to be very anti-blazers, but DD1 tells me she loves having loads of pockets and to be fair - it really makes it easier for her to manage things like periods because she can carry her stuff around discreetly.

vjg13 · 22/07/2014 10:35

£35 with badge embroidered on.

JustRichmal · 22/07/2014 12:23

It's not just the blazer, it's the pullover with logo and tie, as well as the school specifying the exact style of skirt or trousers. We had to get a skirt only as the specified trousers simply did not fit. (We had a choice of too short or too wide)

pointythings · 22/07/2014 12:28

That's bad, Richmal. At our local secondary, only the blazer and clip-on tie are compulsory. You can buy skirts or school trousers anywhere as long as they conform to the rules and the only other compulsory item is the house T-shirt for PE. It's all very affordable.

Lasvegas · 22/07/2014 12:40

In greater london £70 for state secondary. £75 for private junior.

donkir · 22/07/2014 13:08

My ds started secondary last year. £36 for blazer and £20 for trousers. We also have to buy all uniform through the school which makes it very expensive.
I bought them big hoping they'd last at least 2yrs but they are so poorly made (recycled plastic bottles) I've had to buy new for sept.

Elsie20 · 22/07/2014 13:12

My daughters is £95 from school suppliers. State school but catholic. Her whole uniform has cost us just a few pounds short of £400. Everything is has the school logo :(

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/07/2014 13:16

£65 from school supplier with badge embroidered on. This is a comprehensive state academy. I wish it had a black or navy blazer, would have been much cheaper.

mimbleandlittlemy · 22/07/2014 13:33

Smallest size is £27 from school supplier up to absolutely enormous size which costs £39 with school logo already embroidered on. Made out of recycled bottles, very nicely lined. Washes incredibly well at 30 and I've been pleased with it - and we'll get two years wear I think.

Whereisegg · 22/07/2014 14:12

£24, but dd is in one of the smallest sizes, I didn't think to look how much the biggest were.

Nothing else needs to have a logo though, so it could be a lot worse.

TeenAndTween · 22/07/2014 15:00

I think it was ~£30 4 years ago.
Still fits fine, will last the whole 5 years so good value.

(Actually will still be in good enough condition for sister to use, but I'm not that tight).

GloryHunter · 22/07/2014 19:36

£114 state boys' grammar Shock

TeenAndTween · 22/07/2014 19:54

£114 !! Shock

Disgraceful.

Trollsworth · 22/07/2014 20:41

Bloody hell, glory hunter, where do you live? Buckingham palace??

bigTillyMint · 22/07/2014 20:44

You can buy any black blazer and just buy the badge and sew it on. Nice shiny machine washable materialGrin

JustAShopGirl · 22/07/2014 20:48

£60 - school supplier only. thankfully it washes well

pointythings · 22/07/2014 22:05

At £114 I would be buying the largest size possible and making my DC live with growing into it for the next 7 years. Bloody hell!

isthisanacidtest · 22/07/2014 22:11

£75 for DD

DS (and he is 24 and this blazer was bought for going into L6 so 8 years ago) £145 plus £30 for pocket embroidery plus £15 at the start of U6 for adding the extra year. And yes, state secondary school.

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 21:25

£45 only from school supplier for polyester shiny crap - yes it washed but that doesn't take away the shiny elbows which also go whiteish. :(
