How do Scottish nationalists explain this?

Why do Scottish separatists talk about how as an independent nation, they’d do so well with all of their resources and without the English controlling them?

If Scotland gained independence, couldn’t England then wage war on Scotland and forcefully seize all of Scotland’s resources anyway.

Then what would the Scottish do about it?

They rely on the notion of the English being nice.

I am not sure that is correct.
where is your evidence that the EU would side with Scotland?

Let's ignore the fact that the entire premise is risible for a moment.

European parliamentary democracies are not in the habit of randomly invading and annexing neighbours, because that would have catastrophic consequences for their ability to function in the wider world, but you only need look at the situation in Ukraine to see what the EU and wider world's reaction would likely look like if one western European nation invaded another with absolutely no cause.

Er, it would be an illegal war under international law, so effectively, they’d be obliged to.
Countries are not just allowed to invade other countries because they fancy it or they want to take their resources. It has to be self defence. This was why the false claims about WMD were so crucial in the Iraq war - the legality of the war depended upon the credibility of the claims.

Explain that, OP?

What war?
i think you would find it would be the Scots getting feisty. Not the English…..
Judging by the mess the SNP have made of Scottish education, no one with any passion for the future of Scottish children would want to go independent. It would be a disaster for Scotland, not England.

You think England would declare war on Scotland? Have you been sniffing glue?

Aye, but what would Trump want in return ?

He would likely want to flatten Cumbernauld and build a golf course there.

Oh wait.

:-)

🤣🤣🤣

Don't worry, newly crowned Queen Nicola will mobilise the Tartan Army and send them to the border to stop them in their tracks. She plans to issue everyone with blue and white face paint and teach us how to shout 'You Will Never Take our Freeeeeeeedom!'. I reckon that will scare away the pesky Sassenach invaders.

I think it's more likely she'd just fire 'our' nukes, which are all on submarine bases in Scotland.

The US won’t need conventional warfare well all work for American owned ai firms based in Scotland, there’d be no point England invading as they’ll all be either unemployed consuming social media, or working for American ai firms too…if we’re playing pick your likeliest dystopian future.

This post is hilarious.

The sentence "They rely on the notion of the English being nice." is making my teeth hurt. That attitude is what keeps pushing 'us' away.

To be fair to the OP England and Scotland did fight many wars back in the days of yore! Scottish borders and Northumberland are still very sparsely populated. However if anyone took over anyone it was the other way round. James VI of Scotland became James I of England as well in 1603, so there is that.
Also the Scots kicked ass in the so called English Civil War, until Cromwell at least. Nothing is very simple in international relationships.

Well perhaps if you are one of the rather odd people who apparently believe an Independent Scotland means SNP governance in perpetuity.
