Scottish Elections who do you think will take the majority of Seats?

As a Scot I genuinely have no idea who to vote for.

I dont trust the SNP and find John Swinney completely incompetent. I wouldnt trust him to run my household budget let alone the countries so he is out for me. I cant stand labour, the tories well are not my cup of tea, lib dems and green would never get my vote.

However i dont seem to be alone in having no idea who to vote for which leaves me wondering who will take the majority of seats across Scotland. What do others think will happen?

SNP unfortunately, would prefer Labour, the best of a bad bunch in my opinion.

Classic DARVO tactics whenever anyone dares to ask a difficult question.

It really makes me wonder if we’re dealing with an SNP staffer tasked with "managing" the conversation. Instead of providing actual arguments or defending their dismal record on education, they just pivot to personal slights and call people 'sad' for disagreeing.

Whether it's the plummeting standards in our schools or the total disregard for women's concerns about single-sex spaces, they simply cannot defend their policies. If they can’t make a coherent case for their time in government without resorting to name-calling, they’re never going to win the argument for independence. It's a complete lack of substance.

Totally agree. It’s like trying to debate with Mairi McAllan or Iona Fyffe or someone like that. Not much in the way of intelligent argument at all. Robotic, unthinking repetition of the most idiotic of party lines.

SNP supporters just don’t care about how Scotland is failing because they believe Indy will make Scotland a better country. It won’t. Scotland would be far, far poorer at least for the next 20 years or so. If the SNP admitted this and said that it would be worth it for independence I’d have so much more respect for them.

Instead you have the likes of Mairi McAllan on I think it was debate night claiming there were no fiscal rules restricting scotlands entry to the EU. Which is laughably wrong. She couldn’t be more wrong. Scotland couldn’t meet the EU ascension criteria for decades. She must surely know this uncomfortable truth but would rather lie through her teeth to supporters because it’s better for her politically. It’s like Boris Johnson and his Brexit bus all over again.

Been awake for a while and am shocked by the surge in Reform vote in England. Turn out has increased too.
Long wait ahead in Scotland for the results, with most expected 2 -4 pm.
Such an unknown quantity this time - I honestly have no idea how this will go.
' Election Scotland 2026" hosted by Martin Geissler on BBC 1 / Radio Scotland from 930am- 6pm.
See you on the other side!

Why are we counting today and not overnight as previous elections. I think I must have missed something.

It costs less for daytime count

Started in 2021 due to covid.

GenieGenealogy · 08/05/2026 07:05

I think a count the next morning makes sense. Yes it costs less but it's also better for all the staff who are turning up at 8 or 9am for a standard working day to be (mostly) finished at 5 or 6pm, rather than starting at 10pm when polls close and and working till goodness knows when. 12 hours delay in knowing the result makes no difference at all. From the media perspective too it means that you have more people watching results coming in through the day.

YellingAway · 08/05/2026 07:24

@boobashka absolutely been dealing with a staffer trying to find out potential support and unable to address valid concerns posted. Anyway, they will still win and things will continue to be shite.

Differentforgirls · 08/05/2026 07:25

I don’t work for anyone.

YellingAway · 08/05/2026 07:49

Yet you were the one who was heavily involved in the Named Person legislation. Anyway, it doesn’t matter if you are, although I didn’t name you directly, as it is good for those within the bubble of politics to get out and engage with people who have differing views which the SNP have not been good at for a number of years.

What’s that got to do with me not working?

Igneococcus · 08/05/2026 06:33

this neatly encapsulates the issue. For years the SNP having been paying for unaffordable pay rises with one off funding from Westminster (cladding money, covid recovery funds, etc etc) and you cannot rely on one off funding sources to pay for recurring costs. It doesn’t work. The SNP have been kicking the can down the road for years on this and the money runs out not next year (when they might get some one off funding that’s supposed to go towards councils ASN bills that they can chuck at paying for public sector pay rises) but the year after when there’s no one off funding on the horizon and the Barnett formula is due to start tightening. Fun times.

Needspaceforlego · 08/05/2026 11:38

SNP seem to throw a ridiculous amount of money away.
How much has been wasted on fighting legal battles over nonsense, everything from Named Person, to the deposit return scheme to Sandy Peggie.
The lawyers must be laughing all the way to the bank.

They've admitted the increased income tax isn't bringing in as much as they thought, due to changing working patterns, ie the big earners going abroad or cutting hours.

I’m going to cut my hours, and I work (kind of) for the state 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈

Oh my goodness I cannot believe 9,900 people thought the scottish government’s lowest IQ MSP Emma Harper ought to represent them in Dumfries. Beaten by the conservatives but all the same.

Igneococcus · 08/05/2026 15:18

Labour won the Western Isles, that is quite a surprise.

Ferries!!

Seeingadistance · 08/05/2026 15:56

SNP held Cunninghame North, which includes Arran - another ferry shitshow!

I’m actually embarrassed!

Edited to add - I’d bet that was the student vote that helped that.

SirChenjins · 08/05/2026 16:17

No surprise at all that the SNP have retained power - but I'm having a laugh to myself at the fact that Reform have done so well with the vote share. Seems we're not so different to England, despite what the SNP would like us to believe.

And the biggest silver lining of course is that the Greens are barely getting a look in, because fuck me, they are not just anti-women (that's the biological kind) they are absolutely and utterly bonkers.

Otherlands · 08/05/2026 16:21

Watching the results and feeling downcast.
We were planning on returning to Scotland after many years away.

As someone with a connection to Arran, I cannot believe the SNP have been returned.
I also can’t believe that after so many years of SNP failures, so many people are still voting for them.

Otherlands · 08/05/2026 16:25

Much as I respect the democratic process, who on earth thinks Lorna Slater is a credible, high calibre candidate?

High level of students I think. They love the loonie greenies.
