I have a Colombian friend coming for Christmas Day and was going to build a hamper of typical Scottish foods. What would you have in yours? Struggling in particular with savoury.

A bottle of Buckie. (Officially from Buckfast in Devon, but most of it is "exported" to Scotland).

I've lived in Scotland all my life and have never heard of this

Shore seaweed crisps, really yummy. And those triangular Orkney oatcakes.

You’ve lead a sheltered life then!

RaraRachael · 05/12/2025 17:48

@Chemenger not really. None of my friends have heard of it either other than the name of a town.

Simmers Butter Biscuits
Aberdeen Rowies/ Butteries
A nice Scottish Gin - I like Persie but there are so many these days
Tinned Haggis
Dundee cake

But definitely Macaroon bars, Tunnocks of all types, & I love Mrs Tilly’s fudge over tablet.

Island Larder, Shetland

They have some really cracking stuff. The Puffin Poo and tablet have gone down well as gifts with my family

Fruit pudding.

You slice it and fry it - it’s savoury but with fruit in it.

We had some friends come from Scotland to our wedding on the South coast and they brought us a hamper with a naice bottle of whisky for DP, cans of Irn Bru (for the hangover!), shortbread, tablet and a Scottish £20! We found it both funny and thoughtful!
