For "parliamentary business" while Michael Matheson was on a family holiday in Morocco.

Such good value. And if you believe that it was all parliamentary emails etc rather than Netflix and YouTube you're as gullible as Humza Yousaf.

Also quite worrying that a Minister is too thick to disable roaming.

Does he honestly think that this new story makes it any better?

SirChenjins · 16/11/2023 15:19

I have some sympathy for him because his natural reaction was to protect his sons and because your children can get up to all sorts while your back is turned - but my sympathy is limited because he's ignored instructions to update his sim card and he's lied repeatedly. I can imagine the atmosphere in the Matheson household is somewhat subdued at the moment. Youseless has also handled this incredibly badly - covering for him, lying, attempting to brush it under the carpet, dismissing anyone who dared to speak up - and showing himself to be the poor leader he is.

DINGDONG23 · 16/11/2023 15:25

But if it's a secure government device how did his boys get access to it without his knowledge

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2023 15:30

Seems very convenient to me.....bit like the dog ate the homework!
Most teenagers have their own devices!!!

User43787733 · 16/11/2023 15:32

What a fuckwit.
Also the lying and attempts to cover up are just so typical of Scottish politics. Why can't any of them have a bit of integrity, admit to mistakes, actually reflect and learn lessons? Take responsibility and resign?
Useless.

BigBoysDontCry · 16/11/2023 15:35

But the point is that if he'd not tried to claim money back fraudulently he wouldn't have had to "protect his children". He's a lying cheating arsehole and I don't believe his story anyway.

The device would have been password protected for a start.

Instead of protecting them, he's using them to protect his job. Sleekit weasle.

I've no doubt the boys were watching the football, probably on the sofa with him at the time.

He doesn't have sufficient brains, competence or morals to do the job. And that other useless cunt is trying to protect him. They both need to go.

Facebookflight · 16/11/2023 16:04

He’s either fraudulent or incredibly stupid to put through an £11k expenses claim without investigating why it’s such a high bill in the first place. And of course once you’d discovered the cause you’d withdraw your claim.

He needs to repay the £11k and resign. Not doing so it appalling (but it’s the SNP, surprises no one!)

moggiek · 16/11/2023 16:09

Definitely needs to resign.

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 16/11/2023 16:12

DINGDONG23 · 16/11/2023 15:25

They didn't access the device itself. They used it as a WiFi hotspot for their own devices. Apparently.

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 16/11/2023 16:12

And MM didn’t know anything about it even though the iPad would have to ‘agree’ to share the hots spot?

BigBoysDontCry · 16/11/2023 17:25

Well obviously they'd not want to all crowd round an iPad so probably played it on the TV but he'd still have to access the iPad and authorise the use of the data.

I repeat that he is a lying cunt and needs to go.

The truth of what happened is not really the issue anymore tbh, it's what happened afterwards that tells a dirty story.

WeeSleekitCowrinTimrousBeastie · 16/11/2023 17:27

'If' he only found this out last Thursday (which I don't believe) how ms y lies has he told since then and why has it taken a whole week to come clean?

This lot are just as corrupt as the Tories down south are.

Resilience · 16/11/2023 17:48

He should resign or be sacked if he won't go.

Even used only as a hotspot, he would have had to grant his children permission to access his device either on this or a previous occasion. They could not access it at all otherwise. That's an issue in itself.

I don't see how he can claim to be covering up to protect his sons. How? They weren't charged with having responsibility for his device. The only person he's protecting is himself.

I used to be in the police. If I'd have racked up £11,000 I'd have been in trouble but probably not sacked. However, if I'd given my children access to my device I'd have been in huge trouble and if I'd lied about it I'd definitely have been sacked because it's an honesty and integrity issue.

This man is charged with running a country and has been shown to be careless at best (potentially jeopardising national security) and dishonest at worst. He needs to go.

Stroopwaffels · 16/11/2023 18:01

Liar liar pants on fire... used for "parliamentary business" one week, next week "oh yeah, the kids used it to watch football".

He needs to go.

I'm so sick of politicians getting away with things the rest of the UK workforce would be sacked for.

Stroopwaffels · 16/11/2023 18:21

Exactly, @Butteredtoast55 . If that had been a manager at M&S or Shell, or any other company, who had been told "repeatedly" to update their SIM card, and hadn't, and was told they must notify IT when taking devices outside the UK and hadn't, and then had racked up £11k in expenses they would have been sacked for gross misconduct.

And you can also be sure that the boss of M&S or Shell wouldn't be on the telly bleating on about what a good chap they were.

The SNP is corrupt to the core and this is just further proof of that.

OP posts:
SarahC50 · 16/11/2023 18:24

Its disgraceful he needs sacked now. How shameful that yet another politician is shown to be shady and a liar. Where are the good people with integrity? The sheer brass neck of this man is awful

whocaresmore · 16/11/2023 18:48

If he didn't know anything about it then the DC must have known the hotspot password or their devices recognised it from previous use. Which means taxpayers have been picking up the bill for their usage on earlier occasions.

Regardless of what the truth actually is, he is a bare faced liar who was perfectly happy for us to cover the bill until he got caught. Surely he must resign.

BigBoysDontCry · 16/11/2023 19:01

How it pans out in a house with normal morals and integrity befitting a role in public service (or any other job for that matter).

Discover that either you or your DC have racked up £11k on roaming charges.

Think "oh fuck what a massive mistake"

Get angry with yourself or DC and give some consequences to DC if applicable.

Suck it up.

No normal household thinks that they'll just charge that to work/tax payer.

Can you imagine someone like Donald dewer or John Smith etc doing anything like what the current snp gravy bussers do?

Where are the people that you could rely on regardless if whether you agreed with their politics or not?

StoorieHoose · 16/11/2023 19:16

He might be protecting his sons but he has thrown the IT team under the bus and any fool knows you never want to throw the IT team under a bus!! Stupid stupid man

MrsRetriever · 16/11/2023 19:19

Is anyone else on this thread getting adverts for unlimited data usage? 😂

lezsucks · 16/11/2023 19:19

The fact it was his kids on his device makes it worse not better. How did they access an encrypted device? The fact he thinks this improves things is beyond me.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 16/11/2023 19:31

Butteredtoast55 · 16/11/2023 18:18

Precisely.
Yet another arrogant, lying git who thinks he’s above everyone and so important.
I am absolutely sick of bloody politicians, they’re all as bad as each other.

BigBoysDontCry · 16/11/2023 19:54

Sick of all the SNP supporters trying to divert attention by saying its unimportant in the grand scheme of there being a war.

Aye OK then, we'll be happy to have liars and cheats on the public purse because we can't possibly think two differing things are bad at the same time.

Facebookflight · 16/11/2023 20:05

It’s like they are trying to gaslight you into thinking it’s a reasonably acceptable thing to do. It’s not. It’s outrageous and he needs to be fired now!
