Rutherglen by-election - bye bye Covid Maggie

So Covid Maggie finally got her comeuppance, she should have gone immediately IMHO but clung on for 2 years (or was it 3?) claiming her ££££ salary. At least she says she's not standing again.

Really hope the SNP take a huge kicking but they probably have a team of taxpayer funded spin doctors already working on how to promote a defeat as a good thing.

DH and I were discussing this - I reckon SNP will get humped and Humza will deliver a whole contrite ‘you’ve sent us a message, we’re listening and we hear you’ type message then double down on how they need to get back to basics ie loads more expensive booklets about independence.

Piffpaffpoff · 02/08/2023 08:31

(Ps, just to confirm, I am not a taxpayer funded spin doctor😂)

GenieGenealogy · 02/08/2023 08:32

Neither am I @Piffpaffpoff but i've been around long enough to know exactly how this will play out. General election next year will be much more interesting.

Snp drones now blaming Maggie. Saying that if she had done the decent thing and resigned straight away, they would have romped the by election. Example given is that Boris resigned and the seat was retained.... 🤔🙄😁

readsalotgirl63 · 02/08/2023 12:58

Uxbridge seat retained by a whisker because of a very specific local issue

IWillNoLie · 02/08/2023 22:00

She should have resigned straight away. This was pre-vaccines when hospitals were full of covid patients they barely knew how to treat and she travelled from London to Glasgow when she knew she was positive and spreading covid as she went. And before that when she was waiting results so suspected she might have covid she knowingly put large numbers at risk including the HoC. People forget how little we knew then. They consider where we are now with covid and think ‘it wasn’t much’ but at the time for all anyone knew she could have been condemning people to death. It was far worse that travelling outside your zone or meeting an extra person when you thought you were negative.

GenieGenealogy · 03/08/2023 08:41

Course she should have gone straight away. What she did was far worse than someone like Dominic Cummings but she just brazened it out.

I'm sure the £85k salary had a lot to do with it. She must have thought she'd won the lottery getting that sort of salary after working as a sales supervisor in a small firm in Motherwell.

I'm sure I remember her being on come dine with me years ago.

Anyways I forgot to vote in the one to get her out but the result was the one I wanted so I'll be voting in the by election.

IveHadItUpToHere · 04/08/2023 17:42

The Labour candidate is all TWAW so it will be interesting to see how the by-election goes.
The other parties just need to acknowledge sex and tell the electorate that the Labour guy thinks men should be in women's prisons, changing rooms and sports. The people in Rutherglen won't support that at all.

Rainbowshit · 05/08/2023 20:36

All the usual nat suspects are saying she was a great councillor and was right to hang on. 🙄

She's shown herself to not do the right thing by travelling with covid and also not resigning when any other decent person would have done. She deserved the voters in her area booting her out.

Gutted that the labour guy is steeped in gender ideology though so don't want him anymore than another SNP drone.

Wish I still lived there so I could vote!

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/08/2023 21:57

I have no idea how to vote this time. Can't remember who I voted for last time. Don't think it was snp though.

HirplesWithHaggis · 05/08/2023 22:48

I believe ISP are standing a candidate.

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/08/2023 22:54

I'll be looking at their policies before I vote.

ssd · 05/08/2023 23:11

She had some brass neck. Idiot.

HirplesWithHaggis · 06/08/2023 02:41

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/08/2023 22:54

I'll be looking at their policies before I vote.

Absolutely you should. Obviously they are pro-independence, but if you're not, one MP won't sway Westminster, and it's their current policy to not actually attend WM anyway (following the Sinn Fein style). They do, however, know what a woman is, while SNP, Labour, LibDems and Greens are still TWAW. Makes them a pretty safe protest vote all round.

GrandTheftWalrus · 06/08/2023 04:47

I meant I'll be looking at all parties policies before I vote.

Kevinscousin · 06/08/2023 04:52

No idea what Margaret was like as an Mp but that Ged Killen is a nasty wan. (previous MP, Labour) Total TWAW . And I see the new Labour candidate is TWAW too . How delightful. I never lived there but worked in that area for years and there is a lot of poverty . These wee woke guys don't give a shite about working class women. Wonder who the SNP candidate will be ? I suppose they will be TWAW too? How depressing thing Scotland is ...

Kevinscousin · 06/08/2023 15:36

Oh her ! Not very nice at all. Poor auld Ruggy with that lot!

I didn't vote at all in the end. Girl walrus decided that rather enjoy her day off school she would be ill and throwing up all day.

Not surprised by the result though however I don't know what TWAW means?

HirplesWithHaggis · 06/10/2023 03:29

TWAW means "Trans women are women". Blatant untruth, since you need to be a man in order to "transition" to become a "Trans woman", sex is immutable and your genes don't change just because you utter the magic words.

Knifeandforkwhocares · 06/10/2023 03:43

great result. It is the green policies hand in hand with the fraud / corruption and the overall level of sheer incompetence that have caused the SNP’s downfall, so a result for women’s rights in a way. They are the party that have given complete deviant lunatics such as Ross Greer, Maggie Chapman, Patrick Harvie etc a voice, and the voters have given their verdict on that.

Knifeandforkwhocares · 06/10/2023 03:51

What I’d like to see now is:

The immediate dumping of the Bute house agreement.

independence going on the back burner for at least 15 years - as long as it takes to sort our broken country out.

A full opening of the books for Audit Scotland to discover where our considerable budget goes to.

questions put to the Scottish public (not just a pre-selected group) asking what they think Scotland’s financial priorities are.

A public inquiry into the awarding of the CalMac contract. Everyone knows it away a convenient bung to a SNP-friendly company to ‘save’ Scottish ship building, rather than a considered decision to get best value for the Scottish tax payer. The politicians responsible need to be brought to justice. This is corruption at its worst and stinks.
