Exciting/adventurous ideas for teen birthday anyone?

Ds loves thrills, his birthday treats over the years have been things like go ape, Aquadash, Segway. Really struggling for this year! He wanted a karting centre in Larkhall but they are closed on his birthday.
Central belt/an hour or so north or south of this is all fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm sure there's something we haven't done out there, but could use some help on my Google quest!

One of those zipline days out? Or, can you not swim with sharks at Queensferry?

Rainiestsummer · 27/07/2023 21:09

I will look into that, thanks! 🦈
We did go ape quite recently so probably not that one.

I was looking into quad biking sessions but seems to need a minimum group of 8 to do it

I am not in Scotland, so I am of no help.

But I thought:
Does the activity have to be on his birthday? If the karting in Larkhall is something he really wants to do, perhaps you could book it for the closest date and he could get a card that says that you will all go to Larkhall on date x.

(But I understand that you might want the activity to be on his actual birthday).

Good Luck!

That's a good point! We would need to do something on his birthday so could end up costing a lot - but if I don't find a decent alternative I think that's what I'll do 👍

Indoor sky diving also known as wind tunnel

SandyIrvin · 27/07/2023 22:18

My DSes have also been indoor carting in Cambuslang but would agree outdoor track in Larkhall better.

What about paintball? Or cycling at the velodrome.

balatonbumm · 27/07/2023 22:30

There is a go karting place in Clydebank that DS went to for a friend's bday and they all enjoyed.

Do you know where this is, justasmalltownmum? Thanks!

There is an indoor track in Falkirk or how about knockhill? I'm sure they do karts and some specific teen activities.

clpsmum · 27/07/2023 22:48

Ot really a thrill seeking thing but top golf in Glasgow is great. There's also a formula one simulator experience place and think there's an aircraft simulator one too in Glasgow would be like anything like that?

Wild shore in Dundee, various water activities in the centre of Dundee

telli · 27/07/2023 22:59

I think you have to go to Manchester for indoor skydiving. You can do windkarting at St Andrews which looks fun. I think knockhill might do outdoor karting.

fortnumsfinest · 27/07/2023 23:32

Knockhill

PermanentTemporary · 27/07/2023 23:35

There's indoor skydiving at Birmingham and Milton Keynes if it's what I think it is?

Rae36 · 28/07/2023 07:49

Foxlake at Dunbar? They have a new aquapark this summer. We haven't been yet so I don't know how exciting or challenging older teens would find it.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 28/07/2023 07:54

The foxlake places are great.

depending on month, Nae Limits up at Pitlochry is great fir white water rafting and tubing. Little bit further than an hour but it’s a fab day out

Rainiestsummer · 28/07/2023 11:21

These are great ideas, thank you all. We've been to Foxlake, I agree it's brilliant but didn't get a 👍 for this year.
Golf would be interesting too.

Axe/knife throwing?? I think they do it at Gartmore Action Adventures. There is also canoe & paddleboard hire on Loch Ard nearby.

BigBoysDontCry · 28/07/2023 13:01

Loch Ken do some great stuff but is likely to be more than an hour depending on your starting point.

Rookin house farm on the way to Keswick is also more than an hour but have some great stuff on and you can make up a package of activities to suit.

Rainiestsummer · 28/07/2023 19:50

Thank you! I have made suggestions to ds and waiting to see what he wants to do.

I managed to get a cheap flying lesson deal via groupon for my sons 14th birthday, he loved it

Rainiestsummer · 29/07/2023 21:12

An actual flying lesson? Wow!

Butterflymosaic · 29/07/2023 21:17

Helicopter tours are usually on groupon. Has he been to ninja warrior?

Rainiestsummer · 29/07/2023 21:53

Sadly yes for ninja warriors. Not exciting enough for him. Being shot out of the cannon at Edinburgh castle would be more his thing <sigh>
