So only about 2 months til the final exams so starting a thread to discuss revision, exams etc.

Have any schools released details of easter revision classes yet? I've heard nothing from our school and don't know if they are doing any. If they aren't, I might look at what else is on offer over easter.

Ds says it went ok. He was pleased with the Norman McCaig question that came up. That's as much info as I have!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 09/05/2023 17:13

Grade boundary for an A usually hovers below 70% so fingers crossed

RollOnJune23 · 09/05/2023 23:30

Very worried about tomorrow, ds more relaxed than me! There just seem to be so many different types of question in the English exam

Threeboysadogandacat · 09/05/2023 23:59

Ds felt the English went well today although he didn’t have much to say about it. It’s his least favourite subject and he says he’s now “done with it for good” whatever grade he gets! I had to wake him for his dinner tonight so thankfully a couple of days off before chemistry on Friday.

itsalwayscycling · 10/05/2023 07:44

Good luck to all the English nat5s today!

NicolaSturGONE · 10/05/2023 08:19

DD and her BF both dropped off for N5 English, both feeling okay so far.

Good luck for nat 5 English today. Dropped DS off at 8 after a last minute run through of his quotes.

Chompiemompie · 10/05/2023 09:05

good luck to all nat 5 english today - thats alot of them across scotland just opening their papers!

Igneococcus · 10/05/2023 09:31

Ds also doing Nat5 English now. He seemed pretty relaxed about it.

NicolaSturGONE · 10/05/2023 10:37

Apparently paper 1 was on Bluey?

DD regretting not visiting toddler DN often enough lol

Paper 2 now.

Shelefttheweb · 10/05/2023 10:41

Who is Bluey?

dementedpixie · 10/05/2023 10:43

Is it not a kids cartoon character?

weebarra · 10/05/2023 10:49

Got an 'ok' from DS1. Apparently their exam was a bit delayed because a printer wasn't working!

NicolaSturGONE · 10/05/2023 11:01

sorry its a popular kids cartoon, for toddlers.

Hah! DD messaged me in break ti tell me that too... she was delighted 😁

Noontimes · 10/05/2023 11:32

Is there anywhere online where we can see the papers the kids are sitting?

I know, this is what I am worrying about. Online there seems to have been a lot of kids who did the same SST as my son who found it really hard but the ones who did others found theirs easier. Surely there must be some moderation of the marking? They can’t really say “oh the Norman McCaig lot did great this year but the Liz Lochhead lot did rubbish, oh well sucks to be them!” It’s not like the kids get a choice or say in what texts they get. Other subjects where they all answer all the same questions are fairer, although I appreciate that for English there’s a lot of resource/marking required

It is not just English where they have different questions; history definitely, but probably also mods, drama, etc schools go for different tops and they have to turn to the correct segment of the answer paper.

Yes of course, hopefully they moderate the marking for those as well.

NicolaSturGONE · 10/05/2023 17:09

So DD felt both papers went fine.

Paper 1 was Bluey vs Peppa Pig or something and she was thinking 'who the heck is Bluey' but she thinks she answered all questions fine.

Paper 2, she got the question she wanted for the Lighthouse so happy with that and for the Norman McCaig one, she said that was okay.

However her BF got a question he was told would probably not come up so he's less happy with paper 2.

DD felt the same @NicolaSturGONE ... happy with Bluey, got the poem she hoped for and the Macbeth question fit her planned essay well...

Chompiemompie · 10/05/2023 20:26

Well after maths disaster, dd v happy with the paper and questions.
Over 1/2 way through!

NicolaSturGONE · 10/05/2023 20:41

4 exams to go here. Chemistry on Friday. Worried about this one as she got a D in her prelim and the Chemistry teacher isn't that great from what DD and her friends tell me (and I wasn't impressed at parents night either). DD has been studying hard though so fingers crossed. She used to enjoy Chemistry.

ds was happy with English today. He's got Graph Comm (I'm still unclear what that is but he seems really good at it) tomorrow afternoon and chemistry on Friday.

itsalwayscycling · 10/05/2023 21:50

Much happier with English (which really isn’t his subject) than maths here too.
one to go (physics) then breathe!!
