Grin mibbe

Crikey, that has come round quickly. Deffo up for the 2pm Wine party work event tomorrow. dancemom deserves a toast for her efforts over the past 2 years, to provide a framework for us to whinge around... Bet she has been on that SG page more than anyone else in the country!

And, yes, odds on a data cock up on the last day are pretty high, I reckon.

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

So Scotland leading the UK in COVID prevalence again this week (well, up until Sunday anyway). This must surely be about to peak though, as we can't go on with 10% of the population infected indefinitely - the virus will run out of susceptible people. Either way, this isn't exactly screaming 'masks work' by anyone's standards!

The scientist in me is very interested to see whether England and Wales also get to our kind of prevalence as BA.2 works through (I think it's established all over the UK now). I wouldn't be surprised if the English peak in particular was lower because of a higher level of hybrid immunity in the community, which is likely to be more useful against omicron, and perhaps better general health.

Looking back at this I think it does look likely that Scotland has peaked now as two weeks in a row it's come down in the ONS survey. The decrease is very slow, but hopefully enough to give Nicola the confidence to dump restrictions in a week and a bit as promised for the third time.

It's also looking as though England will indeed peak at a lower level to Scotland too, which is interesting. Scotland's peak was around 9% while England seems to have plateaued at around 7.5%. We'll have to wait a couple more weeks to see the trend, but perhaps prior infection is protecting them, which bodes well for us going forward as we have a lot of natural infection now too!

Ha! You mean you haven't been dressed like that every day while doing the announcement?! I'm shocked, I tell you Grin

Thanks for all the data and puns. I'm afraid I can't match mibbe's effort... seriously impressive!

Cheers! WineWine

End of an era. And the figures are disappointingly (but appropriately?) anticlimactic for the occasion.

Thanks, dancemom. You've been a reassuring constant.

PurpleFrog · 08/04/2022 18:54

Thanks @dancemom. Although I often look at the Scottish Government page itself, it has been very handy being able to click “See All” and trace the trends in the data you have posted.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 08/04/2022 22:54

Thank you Dancemom your simple presentation of stats has prevented the defenestration of my phone on many occasions Grin

More seriously you really have been a comforting constant 🥃Flowers
