Booster Queues

I’m very fortunate to have revived my booster in the last few days but wondered what everyone else’s experiences were of queuing at the vaccine centres? Both me and DH went to separate sites, different days, both queued for almost 3 hours to get our vaccine.

I guess is reflective of the high take up, but also wondered if most vaccinators have been stood down and returned to normal roles?

@MLMshouldbeillegal my mums first were at the Allander and this one at Donald Dewar.
She had quite a wait last week but luckily she’s fit enough for it

My dads was down Partick and was quicker thankfully as he can’t even stand for 5 minutes

We had appointments and walked in a few minutes early, there was no queue and we were taken straight away.

3 hour wait! That’s insane.

Same here. There was no queue at all and the vaccinators were all sitting around with nothing To do

I had mine last Tuesday, no queue at all, walked straight through to the nurse without even sitting down. Midlothian. Previously had my flu jab in the same place on a Saturday and waited for about half an hour.

Hope we don't have to wait that long since we'll have to take the kids along. Think we got a 15 min gap between appointments so were planning on waiting in the car. It's a small centre in Lothian and last time was very efficient.

Has anyone in the 40-49 age group been able to book a booster appointment? I received a reminder to book an appointment today but there doesn’t seem to be any appointments available?

Lothian here. I got a cancellation at a local health centre and I didn't have to wait at all. Friends at The Pyramids in Bathgate had a 45 mins wait a couple of weeks ago which was longer than I had previously. NHS Lothian appear from the figures once again, to be behind in their vaxxing and so they are prob cramming people in now.

@Castlecould yep, I've had mine. Booked a few weeks ago and went on the app every day multiple times to try and being it forward. Had it last week.

Mine was 2 hours queuing, I also had an appointment. The nurse said that the turnout was both excellent plus the main problem. In the centre I attended, they'd overbooked because they'd had so many no-shows for the original vaccine. Everyone is turning up for the booster here.

Me. Had to click into each day though to see appointments though.

@Castlecould I got an appointment but only by booking for a centre in Glasgow when I live in a neighbouring authority (still GGC Health Board). My local centre has no appointments up to the end of January, but there were loads of appointments available in Glasgow.

Thanks for this. I’ve tried various Renfrewshire and Inverclyde options with no joy so I’ll try Glasgow.

Dh had his booster plus flu jab last week (Aberdeenshire). Was in and out within 20 minutes.
Same for us.

There’s lots of appointments in Glasgow HB, try

Port Glasgow town hall on 18th, 19th, 22nd and 23rd

Hub CE centre Clydebank 22nd and 23rd

I had mine last Wednesday (Gorebridge, Midlothian). It was a booked appt at 9.30. Walked in a few mins early and was seen straightaway. No queues and it wasn't busy. Hard to see how many booths were operating but in the 15 min post vax area, there were prob about 20 or so folk sitting out their time at any given point.

I booked online about 10 days previously so perhaps caught it before the surge to get booster appts after omicron variant.

I am in England - the first 2 doses I had appts at vaccine hub - little waiting and was in a sports hall with loads of chairs and jabbers.

Booster at GP surgery was given a time got there 10 min early to join a queue of about 30 people - lady checked me off her list but seemed to be no effort to have us in the right order - people with appts after me were ahead of me in the queue which was outside and was over an hour standing in car park. At vaccine centre it was drummed into us not to arrive more than 10 mins before our time but at GP's it seemed to be random so you had to have an appt but pretty much that was all.

I live in Renfrewshire and travelled to Drumchapel today for mine. Wait was 45 minutes but it was queued out the door and took ages I was as at the front of the queue for 15 minutes before being called to a table.

@Castlecould do you drive? I went from Renfrewshire to the Donald Dewar sports centre in Drumchapel for mine. It was the only one with a date that suited.

I had my appointment the other day and took DS with me to wait in the car as it had been so quick last time. This time I waited for 20 mins before being told it would be at least another hour, so I had to leave because DS would freeze! And now because they booked me in when I arrived I can't book another appt online, and obviously can't get through to the helpline! So frustrating, not sure how long I am supposed to wait on hold here, it's been 25 mins already! I was going to go and do a walk in, but I think it's only for 50 and above? If any of you guys know different please let me know!

Isn’t there a drop in clinic in your area? In our health board they are giving first and second doses and booster and flu for those who qualify.

I think the only thing they don’t do is the 3rd primary dose ( for people with weakened immune systems - it’s not the same as the booster ).

Usually the info is on the HB website.

Thank you, they must have released more slots. I still couldn’t get one before Christmas but managed to get Port Glasgow for 9th January.

I went some time ago but the queues for Pfizer was really long (about an hour) but the Moderna queue didn't have anyone in it except me so it was really quick.

A 3 hour queue sounds awful and badly organised.

I took my DS for a walk in 2nd dose yesterday and we only waited for 30 minutes. They were jabbing them so quick they were running out of space for the 15 min wait afterwards.

DS's review - that's the best jab i've ever had! Grin
