Another lockdown being considered

Has anyone else heard about this? Sturgeon is considering another circuit breaker if cases don’t fall in the next few weeks. My heart sank when I read this as we’re due to get married in October. Do people think it’s likely she will do this? I’m from England and totally regret booking my wedding in Scotland now Sad

They’re obsessed by masks. Despite them clearly not working

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 14:30

What do you mean - masks aren’t working?

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2021 14:33

Well, vis a vis England - we are told cases rising in schools

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 14:47

Do you mean in schools amongst unvaccinated pupils? And if you think pupils are putting on, wearing, and removing masks masks properly you’re wrong!

Masks on their own don’t work, socia distancing on its own doesn’t work, vaccination on its own doesn’t work, hand washing on its own doesn’t work, etc etc…all of these things need to come together to reduce the spread. Plus of course, we’ve now got variants and waning immunity - we’ll be living with this for a long time to come.

OnceUponAWhine · 26/08/2021 14:50

Well, exactly, we should be living with it and getting on with life. Taking responsibility for the welfare of our own families and friends.
Unmask the kids for starters.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 26/08/2021 14:57

My heart sank listening to NS the other day. She is keen to maintain a platform and is an expert at deflecting attention from other issues by talking about covid all the time. Unfortunately her tone scares lots of people- my mother for example has only left her house a few times in the last 16 months.

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 14:59

Not at all - if we want to take responsibility we take it for everyone, not just our own families and friends. Masks are one part of reducing the spread.
Leftphalange · 26/08/2021 15:47

It's the inconsistencies though in Scotland with the masks that are causing the problem. Teenagers can go to a club, no mask, no social distancing, filled with alcohol. But my 12 year old has to wear one in school, in class and in the corridors, for hours at a time??

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 15:58

The inconsistencies are not just in Scotland though - they’re right across the UK.

I completely agree that they make no sense though - allowing clubs, pubs and huge gatherings to open in the middle of a pandemic is crazy imo, but equally there are many who complain bitterly about any form of restrictions, distancing, mask wearing and so on. Apparently we just need to learn to live (or otherwise) with it 🤷‍♀️

Wakeupin2022 · 26/08/2021 16:22

I don't think it will happen - not yet!

There is no sign of England needing one yet so she can't really get in there 1st and one up on BJ so what will it gain her in her quest for Independence?

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 16:52

England needing one - who decides that?! Boris can’t even decide how many children he has, I wouldn’t look to him or his pals for a sensible decision.

I stand by that, we do need to live with it and our current life administrations have to work around any local breakouts. By what measurement are we ‘in the middle’ of a pandemic?

The NHS needs to be robust enough to get through winter (all that TV advertising money to remind us to keep testing, could have gone some way to funding extra measures for the winter). Where are the politicians appearing on TV to clarify what’s happening with that?

England are allowed to take personal responsibility for mask wearing. We are not yet trusted to act like grown ups.

Finally, stop blaming the children and young people for a virus spreading. The mental health of a young person concerns me far more than them passing on cold symptoms to me (I’ve had my two vaccines, I expect some balance and rational thinking around how ill I might be, if at all, with covid, but god forbid I might get ill with something else this winter…) so unmask them now too.

Iluvfriends · 26/08/2021 17:08

There are certainly more cases where i work as more wards are being closed to visitors due to more cases. Most of the cases are asymptomatic and only picked up due to routine testing not because the patient is ill.

BroccoliFloret · 26/08/2021 17:11

Sturgeon can fuck off.

We've played her game, worn our masks, got our vaccines, lived through two school years disrupted, had some shops closed more than they were open, not had people in the house.

I am not doing that again.

Do you know much about Scotland and what drives the SNP decisions?
MaMelon · 26/08/2021 17:32

Yes Grin

titsintiers · 26/08/2021 18:36

Deflection drives decisions by the snp.

This shit will move the conversation away from their pals Patrick and Lorna for 5 minutes.

Fucking sick of this bullshit.

I hope your wedding goes ahead op and you have a lovely day.

Sweetchocolatecandy · 26/08/2021 19:38

Thank you for all the well wishes Smile I suppose it’s just a case now of keeping my eye on the news and updates. As if planning a wedding isn’t stressful enough! Fingers crossed for no more lockdowns.

Yes, good luck OP, hope you can have a wonderful wedding day.
Wakeupin2022 · 26/08/2021 20:29

Hope you do manage a wonderful day. Scottish weddings are absolutely the best.

RaraRachael · 26/08/2021 21:07

Oh great (as suggested up thread). Let's have a circuit breaker during the October school holidays. We have unending shit to put up with in schools and won't be able to enjoy a holiday. Shock

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2021 21:10

Exactly @RaraRachael

People need a holiday

Blueleah · 26/08/2021 21:13

In my opinion there will be another lockdown, and in fact I expected it from the beginning. Did anyone really think that restrictions had been lifted and that was the end of it? It was always obvious that they were “letting us out to play” over the summer while cases are lower, so we’ll be more compliant with restrictions over the winter.

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2021 21:15

I was stupid enough to be duped by the vaccinations will free you promise

dementedma · 26/08/2021 21:17

They wont be able to do it if Gov UK doesnt pay for it. No furlough money from Westminster will give her a massive headache and hopefully open the eyes to those who think Scotland doesnt need financial support from being in the Union
