Do we know what’s happening with high schools next week?

I feel like I must have missed an announcement, but can find anything with a Google.

I know high schools are going back part time next week, but when will we know the actual arrangements? Or is it going to be up to individual schools to work out?

I have an S1 and S3.

We haven't been told.

Arewenearly · 09/03/2021 18:26

I got an email from school today for my S2. They seem to be going in for practical subjects as they can social distance for those and continuing home learning for Maths, English etc. Focus is on getting S4-6 back. We're getting a timetable emailed out in the next few days.

Ah well, at least it’s not just me then. I thought I must have missed something.

Yes - have got email & timetable for High school.

They have time table - only in 2 days a week til Easter, then full time after Easter.

Not sure what the point is - mine are worried that they'll be the only ones in the class & that none of their friends will be there.
(In Fife)

MrsRedFly · 09/03/2021 19:18

Oops - only 1 day a week (2 days in total!)

Happylittlethoughts · 09/03/2021 20:13

Had an email for my 6th Year daughter.
2 days in week 1
1 day in Week 2
1 day in Week 3
So only 4 days over 3 weeks

Keepmeawayfromthebuffet · 09/03/2021 20:16

Got an s1 and s4, both in 1 day a week for 2 weeks (Fife) s4 may be in an extra day for practical work. Just got email today

Redtartanshoes · 09/03/2021 20:17

S2, 1 day each week. Total
Waste although ds happy to see his mates. Social distancing on bus so max 10 people Ona single decker which is hilarious

dementedpixie · 09/03/2021 20:18

Individual schools will make their own arrangements. I'm supposed to find out tomorrow about my 2

Dinnaehinksae · 09/03/2021 20:26

I've got an S3 and 5 but not heard anything yet its still early in the week though so I'm not overly concerned. I'm in West Lothian, hoping it's only a day to begin with to ease them in.

Sturmundcalm · 09/03/2021 21:04

we're not due to hear until Friday... i'm assuming 1 day/week considering the restrictions/prioritisations in place (DS in S2)

Notthisnotthat · 09/03/2021 21:30

I've an S1 and she is getting 3 hours a week till Easter. They are in groups of 10 and will stay in the same class and the teachers will come to them. They don't need to wear uniform either, but sports clothes so they can do PE.

horseymum · 10/03/2021 07:33

Three half days for S2 and four whole days for S4, school split into three by surname so not guaranteed to be with friends. Normal timetable so just the luck of the draw what classes you are in for. Seniors get one extra day chosen by teacher based on need ( practical subject).

Ulysses · 10/03/2021 07:44

DD is in S4 and is in for 2 full days and 2 split classes one in the AM and PM. She's not sure if she's to stay in school that day, otherwise she's going to have to come and go from school and it's a 2.5 mile walk each way from our house.

FlippingBottleFlippers · 10/03/2021 08:07

I have an S4 and we have been told that the senior phase will get between 4-6 days over the remaining weeks depending on how many subjects they are studying that have elements that require observations/practical assessments. Letters will be posted today, so it's unlikely we will know what days they have been allocated until Friday. The school has a very high percentage of pupils bussed in as it covers 3 local authorities which adds to the complexity.

horseymum · 10/03/2021 08:32

And the remote learning which had been ticking along ok will be shot to pieces as teachers clearly can't be doing both at same time.

TeenTraumaTrials · 10/03/2021 09:34

We've heard nothing confirmed yet other than an email from the school last week saying that S1-3 likely to only get half a day a week for 3 weeks. DD (senior) says that friends at other schools in the authority have been told they'll get 2 days a week.

But agree it's the fact that the teachers will all be busy teaching the kids who are in school so the quality of online learning for those at home will inevitably plummet. Essentially a 5 week Easter holiday for S1-3.

Apparently this is being discussed on Radio Scotland now and the ex head of the HT association (or similar) has said no-one in education thinks what's happening is a good idea ..........

dementedpixie · 10/03/2021 09:40

I'll let you know what my school says today. I have an S3 and S6 - north lanarkshire

horseymum · 10/03/2021 10:18

To clarify, ours is thee total ie three half days in total before Easter for S2, not per week.

Lidlfix · 10/03/2021 11:47

If it's any consolation I am a teacher and haven't been there told who is in, when they're in, how many I can teach and where I should be teaching themConfused.

user143677433 · 10/03/2021 11:50

I do feel bad for the teachers with all the chopping and changing.

I was thinking that if it was either a political exercise to say they were all back, or a mental health exercise to get the kids socialising and soften the change, couldn’t they just have got the S1-3s back for their PE classes pre-Easter.

MusicCrayon · 10/03/2021 11:56

I have a S2 at an independent school in Edinburgh and it's 3 hours of PE, once a week until Easter.

I'm glad she'll see her friends but what a paint for the teachers and logistics when I'm sure the 2m rule will change after Easter!

dancemom · 10/03/2021 12:15

S4 and she will be in half days 4 days a week. Alternating half mornings and afternoons over the next 3 weeks.

TeenTraumaTrials · 10/03/2021 12:32

Confirmation here this morning and much the same as dancemom for S4 - 4 half days plus one of the Friday mornings extra. The letter from the school was like war and peace - so much work has gone into it.

dementedpixie · 10/03/2021 13:53

My ds (S3) is in 1 day per week for 3 weeks - Wednesday
Dd (S6) is in period 3-7 Thursday and all day Friday although with study periods and English at a consortium school that she can't attend then its really 1 period of Guidance on Thursday and 4 periods on Friday
