Do we know what’s happening with high schools next week?

I feel like I must have missed an announcement, but can find anything with a Google.

I know high schools are going back part time next week, but when will we know the actual arrangements? Or is it going to be up to individual schools to work out?

I have an S1 and S3.

My Dd (S6) got her arrangements today. I think she is in one third of the time, but don’t know the details yet. I am glad she will get out of the house for a bit and see people. I am even more glad my older primary DS is going back on Monday. His online provision has been really good compared to lockdown #1 but it is a struggle to get him to do anything he does not like or finds difficult.

Dinnaehinksae · 10/03/2021 20:15

@horseymum my kids school have said the online learning will continue, even when in school they will be doing the online work whilst in classes, they're being asked to take their devices in where possible.

ItsLikeSputnik · 10/03/2021 20:22

I’m in North Lanarkshire and got the details for my S1 and S4 today. S1 will be in school every 3rd day and my S4 will be in every other day. Both will be in for full days and they’ll follow their usual timetable. Online classes will mirror what’s being done in school, so there will be audio or video lessons for those not in school. I’m pleasantly surprised by the amount of class time they’ll be getting.

Having S1-3 back was a last minute call by NS and JS.... against advice. It means schools can’t prioritize S4-6 in the way anticipated, and with only a proportion of each year group going in it won’t necessarily be a boost to well-being if a pupil doesn’t have a friend going in at the same time. All in all tricky all round :( ... to be clear I absolutely think all kids need back in schools but lack of vaccines for school staff and 2 m distancing make this a nightmare logistically.

JustAsWell · 10/03/2021 22:35

1 hour 45 mins a week for my S3 and been told online provision will also drop (it's already pretty poor.)

RedcurrantPuff · 10/03/2021 22:36

Mine (s1 and s3) will be back for a total of 4 and 5 respectively blocks over the 3 weeks.

It’s shit but less about schooling and more about them getting to meet friends and the social aspects

Sturmundcalm · 11/03/2021 20:50

1 day/week for S2 DS, I'm pleased though cause his whole year is in the same day which I think is better from the social side of things.

Uptheduffy · 11/03/2021 21:42

My S5 will get less teaching than they were doing at home, thanks to the decision to add S1-3 into the mix.

FuckingHateRats · 12/03/2021 07:47

Everyone will get less teaching now. I've gone from seeing some classes twice a week online to not seeing them at all. Every single year will take a hit in terms of continuity for the next three weeks.

Neeko · 12/03/2021 09:27

Yes, less teaching for my school too. I'll be teaching for 6 more hours next week but it's repeats of the same lesson. It feels crazy when I can deliver that lesson to a whole class online (and ours are attending online lessons). However, we have to start back somewhere/somehow and I can't wait to see my pupils.

RaspberryCoulis · 12/03/2021 09:39

Had information about my S4 and S6 yesterday, they are in a few periods here and there. S4 has at least one period of every core subject. S6 has been rostered to go in on his free periods which is... strange.

I was always dead against blended learning and this hasn't changed. Teachers cannot be in two places at once, teaching the kids in school and teaching the kids at home. It's shit, it won't work, and it's short changing our kids. Again.

Ds's school is splitting pupils alphabetically by surname. He is in for full days, week 1: mon/thu, 2: Wed, 3: tue. Following normal timetable each day.

They will get face to face teaching and will be directed then what to do the rest of the week as there will be few/no online lessons. There will be some drop in calls for maths I think.

Tbh after the first week, he has adapted well to online learning, it has been much better organised, he was getting enough work and managing his time well, and I think he would be better sticking with that until after easter. I know others have had different experiences.

With the vaccine coming, and the new variants, personally this feels slightly too early for all to be going back.

chestnutmares · 14/03/2021 21:06

Our S1/S2/S3 pupils are getting half a day per week each, so 3 hours. I'm not quite sure what the point is! And she's worried she'll not get any of her mates in her group of 10. It's only for 3 weeks though so I'm sure it'll be fine.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2021 21:12

Ds S3 is in on a Wednesday. I got him to try his uniform trousers on and they still fit. Then I realised he has PE that day so he will go in with PE kit on instead

WeAllHaveWings · 15/03/2021 16:57

First day back today :

1m distance on school bus ❌ not enough seats
2m distance in classroom ✅
Masks in classrooms ✅
2m distance at all times around school ❌ corridors usual bedlam
2m distancing in school grounds ❌ they all day on bench to eat lunch together

He said it was good to see the teachers face to face and they went over some work they had done online which was good too, but for the rest of the week they have just to self study.

OOAOML · 16/03/2021 12:03

Mine are in today. Apparently they all had to line up (no distancing) in the playground whilst the teachers chased paper leaflets about which are to be used for contact tracing. The child who was texting me was ranting about lack of distancing although apparently in the classes it works better. Haven't heard from the other one so will try and get a better picture once they're home.

OOAOML · 16/03/2021 13:23

S3 child (for context ASD and a stickler for the rules) home (long half day) and seems totally fine with how things went. Elder child still sending not happy texts but think a lot is just not wanting to be in (to be fair she was getting a lot more interaction with the teacher when she was in for practical work sessions).

RedcurrantPuff · 16/03/2021 13:26

My 2, s1 and s3, are thrilled to be back. Not in on the same days typically

OOAOML · 16/03/2021 13:34

Ours are sitting the school by surname but only S4-6 are full days.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/03/2021 13:46

ours are the same. split into 3 groups by surname.

wouldn't want to be a teacher right now, teaching the same thing 3 times over.

No I wouldn't, for the kids I think a process of acclimatisation is good (S3 child says it was stuff he's already done but I know not everyone will have) as it's so long for some of them since they've been in, but for the teachers it must be pretty rubbish. I hope Easter is a proper break for teachers and pupils.
