Meteorological spring- welcoming the light

The last thread was a cosy place full of uplifting posts. Most of us are still in much need of more light for many different reasons. As meteorological spring starts tomorrow let's share our buds, chicks, lambs, turning down of thermostats and (my personal fave) spring inspired food and drinks. DH and I chalked out a new seating area in the garden that we plan to do after Easter, my gingerbread candles have progressed to airier scents and I ordered a pale pink cardigan.

Wax - you can use the same starter but it's a slightly different recipe. Keep on meaning to try it but haven't got round to it yet. Maybe in the summer Smile

prettybird · 07/03/2021 14:51

This is the one I want to try, from Food Geek:

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/03/2021 15:03

That looks epic, you'll need to show us if you get round to making some.

Lidlfix · 07/03/2021 15:07

Last year's wish I had bought one earlier as they went out of stock purchase was a pizza oven, the £250 variety rather than the 2 grand brick built ones favoured by Tv chefs . I might have to succumb to sourdough bases.

My brother has a proper pizza oven and is an amazing cook - well he was the last time I saw him which is now about 18 months ago.

Sturmundcalm · 12/03/2021 18:03

I read (another) fashion article today about it being time to give up your padded jacket and embrace style again. While out walking this morning I put up with wind, rain, sleet and even some hail. It doesn't feel like time to give up any layers let alone prioritise style over warmth.

When do we think that mythical time will come in west central Scotland? Wine

prettybird · 12/03/2021 18:12

I'm still 100% wearing my ski jacket and a woolly hat when going for my daily walk. And yes, we got rained on, wind buffeted and hailed on during today's walk Shock so I have no plans to stop wearing them.

I do wear a pretty pashmina printed with the Klimt picture of the kiss (bought from a great wee shop in Cresswell Lane - it was a Christmas present from dh last Christmas but I've bought other "painting" pashminas from there since as birthday presents) wound round my neck. Does that count as being stylish? Wink

Sturmundcalm · 12/03/2021 18:16

definitely more stylish than my look @prettybird!

I don't really know why I even read fashion stuff, it's a very theoretical interest... but I guess the article did make me think that we (I) could do with a Scottish version that recognises our weather. I have started to hope that it might be worth making an effort because people would actually see me soon so then I need to consider that aside from a couple of birthday presents I have no clothes less than a year old Grin

prettybird · 12/03/2021 18:26

I also still like reading fashion items Sturm even though I rarely buy new clothes Confused - and worse, no longer have the opportunity to wear smart clothes (and I actually like wearing suits and smart dresses Wink).

I have a fabulous long red coat that I used to love wearing in winter on business trips (I usually cycled into work so kept a different coat in the office - a faux fur one which I also no longer get the chance to wear) that I almost never get the chance to wear as I don't go into an office any more Sad

Dh and I coordinated a virtual meal with friends on Tuesday with friends around the corner (we shared the cooking and delivered/picked up suitably distanced our respective contributions) and dressed up for the occasion Grin It was fun! Smile (and lots of Wine was involved too Grin)

Lidlfix · 13/03/2021 17:44

I had fizz with my Dsis outdoors. Smile It was great, padded coats were absolutely involved and will be for a few weeks (months) to come.

prettybird · 13/03/2021 18:07

Glad you got to have fizz with your dsis Lidlfix WineThanks

I've said to dh that if/when Wink we can go skiing again, I want need a new ski jacket Grin. I'm sick of the sight of this one Shock

To be fair, it's over 20 years old and the zip is getting a bit dodgy (as in, unless I'm really careful when I zip it up, it undoes from the bottom Hmm)

It's a good excuse anyway Wink

Lidlfix · 14/03/2021 08:47

And today I can give my DM her Mother's Day present and have a coffee in her garden.

Today was lovely Smile. First time that the air had felt warm. We ended up having an impromptu afternoon around in the garden of friends (same couple that we had our fancy virtual/socially distanced meal over Zoom last Tuesday) and enjoying a bottle of bubbly to celebrate.

It was great to be able to sit and chat without freezing Grin

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/03/2021 19:45

Yes, car was showing 15 degrees. Lovely!

prettybird · 19/03/2021 11:34

Went for my daily walk yesterday wearing my summer raincoat rather than my ski jacket and without a scarf wound round my neck ShockGrin

The "big" daffodils are coming out in the garden, alongside the tête-à-tête and jetfire daffodils. Spring is definitely springing DaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Lidlfix · 19/03/2021 19:15

Garden gin with my lovely pal from work in the sun, short sleeves and first airing of my birkies this year. Then the sun moved and jackets were donned but it's March so we were grateful. Missed my colleagues so much as we have been really isolated from each other in school.

OP posts:
prettybird · 19/03/2021 20:34

Yes - I wore a short sleeved top for the first time this year today Smile OK, I soon put a cardie over it Wink, but it's the principle Grin

prettybird · 19/03/2021 20:36

So glad you managed to spend some quality time (garden gin Gin is always quality time Wink) with your lovely colleague Smile

Lidlfix · 02/04/2021 17:57

My life has some more light today because my DPs had second dose this morning.

I bought an event shelter and it is up! DD2 is serving cocktails to her 2 pals who are flatmates in the fleecy blanket fairy light zone.

I had fizz with my Dsis outdoors and even removed my cardigan briefly .

Beautiful weather today . Went for an 8 mile walk ... lambs , daffodils and clear skies .. so uplifting. Then garden , patio and a glass of fizz . 😊

prettybird · 07/04/2021 16:08

Well, the wind might have been cold it we managed to have 4 sets of couples round in succession yesterday to have chilly bubbly on the patio to celebrate my 60th Smile And the garden is looking good with cherry blossom out, daffodils blooming and the tulips starting to come out.

Just such a shame that it wasn't the warm sunny weather we'd had just days earlier.

Beautiful cherry tree . Smile

Ianrankinfan · 07/04/2021 17:22

And Happy Birthday..

Lidlfix · 07/04/2021 20:28

Happy Birthday Cake Prettybird! Your garden looks lovely. Glad you got to celebrate your milestone birthday even if your bulbs were extra chilled.

My two cherry blossoms are always a bit later than others round about, maybe they'll bloom in time for my April birthday, as it's before anything opens back up- so garden socialising for me too.
