Is there an announcement tomorrow?

Is there an update on the stay at home order due tomorrow? I’ve completely lost where we are at. I’m currently on Furlough because of the stay at home order and being unable to WFH. Wondering is that will change tomorrow.

Can’t find anything about when all the inservice days were in for Glasgow for February - anyone know what day we were due to be back in school after the Feb break - I thought it was a mid week return ie. 10th or 11th. Is everyone just assuming they’ll make it the following Monday so that’s why the 15th Feb is being mentioned? Our school website is impenetrable - can only find the dates for 2020.

Itsabloodybingthing · 19/01/2021 15:12

@OptOutRE looks like Glasgow due to return on 11tg

Callisto1 · 19/01/2021 15:18

Edinburgh is not back till 16th so I guess the Feb break is different for every council and they are just throwing dates at us.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 19/01/2021 15:19

Inset 10th, kids back 11th in Glasgow. We'll see.

OptOutRE · 19/01/2021 15:19

So there will be 6.5 weeks to schedule in Prelims/tests between 15th Feb and 1st April when schools break up for Easter - then back in on April 19th and into the scrappiest month of May with its May Holiday, Election in-service and May weekend. What I and my DS want to know is are they going to be doing tests under exam conditions for all their Highers? My DS has got Music to perform for his Highers and has no idea what’s happening. If there are tests/exams then he’ll knuckle down and revise - if there aren’t he’ll throw his all into doing all the work they’re setting him every day (and desperately trying to learn new stuff in Physics and Maths that is proving tough because it’s not being taught face-to-face - taking twice as long to get his head round) I’m at my wits end and he’s just so fucking miserable.

I missed the actual announcement, but the BBC article makes it sound like we might get blended or staggered return if cases continue dropping. Am I deluding myself? Was the actual announcement bleaker than the writeup?

WeAllHaveWings · 19/01/2021 15:22

Haven't seen the announcement yet.

East Ayrshire was due to be on holiday Monday 15th Feb with two in service days Tuesday/Wednesday, no idea if that will change now. It is ds's 17th birthday on one of those days, but guess if restrictions are continuing he is not getting his birthday first driving lesson anyway.

Peppafrig · 19/01/2021 15:25

That would be the 11th Feb for us would that count as mid Feb

GoldenOmber · 19/01/2021 15:27

That’s sort of what she said. Situation reviewed on Feb 2, with the ‘hope’ of getting ‘even a phased return’ by mid-Feb.
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 15:27

Yes @Callisto1 NS said that if they can do a regional or blended return beginning in Feb then that will happen.

GoldenOmber · 19/01/2021 15:31

I’m just not putting much weight on “we plan...” or “we hope to...” after the last couple of dates they hoped to make haven’t happened.

I would also really, really like to know what criteria they are using to determine when they feel it’s safe enough for schools to go back. Number of cases below a particular number? Hospital admissions dropping? ICU occupancy? What? I mean, they’re asking a MASSIVE amount of children and of parents here, I don’t feel a bit of detail is too much to ask for.

And Patrick Harvie can shut up.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 15:33

Yeah, it's all a bit open-ended but I personally don't mind. I'm lucky though because I can work from home (mainly) and my kids seem to be dealing with home-school ok this time round.

Accept it isn't like that for everyone.

GoldenOmber · 19/01/2021 15:40

Yeah, I can work from home but I can’t work effectively and homeschool and care for the youngest one at the same time. I managed to arrange cover at work to make it sort of doable for now (moving some weekday work to weekends) but we have new things coming down the line at work from next week and it’s just going to be brutal.

And it makes me just want to cry hearing politicians without children trotting out platitudes about what parents want is to know that it’s safe. My toddler had what was probably covid in spring lockdown, and it wasn’t fun but i fortunately didn’t feel he was in danger at any point. Having to neglect him to work though means he’s fallen off sofas, tumbled down steps, once nearly ate some berries in the garden while I was following him and doing work emails on my phone at the same time. I feel awful about it but it is just NOT possible to safely supervise a toddler and work at the same time - and it feels like nobody gives a fuck about that.

Itsabloodybingthing · 19/01/2021 15:41

@GoldenOmber what did Patrick Harvie say? I turned it off after the schools announcement.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 15:43

Yes, I feel so badly for people with toddlers! I am so grateful mine are a bit older - don't get me wrong they still want to talk to me all day but there's no danger of them eating berries or anything. It must be exhaustingly difficult.

Callisto1 · 19/01/2021 15:45

Thanks! At least it sounds like they are considering different options with schools and nursery even if they won't give us any concrete info what they're basing the decisions on. Blended would be enough to return some sanity here.

GoldenOmber · 19/01/2021 15:46
@GoldenOmber what did Patrick Harvie say? I turned it off after the schools announcement.
It was something about how ‘all that parents want to know’ is what is being done to make schools safer, because safety is our main concern.

I do want schools to be safer for the sake of teachers and wider community transmission, but ‘will my children get covid?’ is not my most pressing question right now thanks Patrick.

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 10:42

Does anyone feel remotely hopeful about the school announcement tomorrow?

Callisto1 · 01/02/2021 11:23

I'm swinging from hopeful about being given a timeframe or an announcement about blended, to thinking they'll just ape England and tell us to hold tight till 8th March for more news Sad

ssd · 01/02/2021 11:29

TBH it's all doing my head in so much I have escape to the country..bargain hunt...antiques roadshow on a loop here to avoid the news, the covid announcements, the hands face space adverts....there could be an announcement of life found on Mars and I'd miss it all..

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 11:29

@Callisto1 I’m the same as you! I do feel slightly more hopeful this time. I’m not seeing as much in the media about it being a “tall order” etc.

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 11:31

@ssd I feel you! I do feel like that’s no end in sight at the minute. I feel like I sigh at the end of everything I say if that makes sense... like everything defeats me!!

HigherHeaven · 01/02/2021 11:49

Here we are again... waiting. Load of ‘stuff’ going on with SNP - hope they have clear heads to make the right decisions on this. Am I right in thinking that situation with schools probably won’t be announced until tomorrow (Tues) or are we expecting something today? Surely to God they’ll be in a position to make a more decent forecast with levels slowly coming down. Guess it depends on having a realistic projection of the vaccination programme. I have totally run out of steam now and am going through the motions. I need to know the plan for my kids.

Callisto1 · 01/02/2021 12:10

The announcement is tomorrow Heaven. I think we're all waiting with baited breath.

And OMG I just properly read your username @Itsabloodybingthing!! My first proper laugh today! It's so exhausting looking out for clues of what is going to happen and second guess every word that comes out of the gov and their advisers. Think I'm in some unhealthy relationship with them....

anon444877 · 01/02/2021 12:10

Just a bit over 24 hours now...I'm worried hopes are up and it'll be a non event of we'll review 8 March.
