On Thursday it was a pink one

Of course a deaf person can follow a briefing with coordinated outfits, I’m not saying that.

Jodri · 21/12/2020 09:11

Ha ha Boris Johnson’s one is not very slick are they but maybe that is what they want though.

Yes we would be naive not to realise that every party has an image machine behind them. SNP are in power in Scotland and have daily exposure on tv everyday, so of course I’m going to be exposed to it and scrutinise it more.

Akire · 21/12/2020 09:18

It also looked as if she may have done a rude gesture at some point when mentioning online learning, but I could have been imagining/ hoping for that.

As a paid highly trained professional of course not!

It's just that you made it seem like a cynical move and not one that, if it is deliberate, is only made to help people with lower levels of visual clarity.
Namechange2020lalala · 21/12/2020 09:55

I don't think it's for BSL viewers particularly, it's for all viewers. And if it gives the impression they've got their shit together, the message will be stronger. Blustering Boris looks like he slept in a skip half the time, and personal I don't find that reassuring when he delivers serious info.

It’s just part of the language.

I’m really interested in whether any of the posters praising this interpreter for being amazing have any knowledge of BSL?

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 11:10

Yes, I agree, but the dark block colours are a choice made for BSL viewers.

Jodri · 21/12/2020 11:47

So giving the impression they’ve got their shit together...it is all very subtle propaganda then.
We should be cynical of politicians’ behaviour and image and look at what they are actually doing.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 12:02

I think Boris' cynically shabby look is worse. It lets him off the hook when he fails - oh well, you knew what you were getting when you voted for him, he can't even brush his own hair...

Jodri · 21/12/2020 12:27

As someone who has shit hair that requires a lot of expense and time to get anything looking presentable I have some sympathy for Boris in that respect. I didn’t vote for him or his party though, it was conservative MPs. Has there been a general election where he was leader? Hopefully he’ll be gone at the next one.
But talk of him is deflection from what I’m worried out as Scottish voter living in Scotland; the slick, SNP machine that puts appearance over substance and is ultimately driven by one policy. Yes they’ve given lots of lip service to many easy feel good decisions, Baby boxes, fighting the cause for marginalised groups for example. Make some real difference again and the hard decisions and I’d actually vote for them (which I did in early 2000s and in the indyref in 2014).
Don’t try and placate me coordinated outfits on your daily update to project a unified voice. I’m not that stupid.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/12/2020 12:35

I saw a journo ask Boris about his hair on behalf of journos mum. Along the lines of "why don't you make any effort to brush it, it's embarrassing that you're representing the country etc"

He said that he does brush it and carries a brush with him and that it's just his hair and he tries his best. He looked a bit upset to be fair and I wonder if anyone would think that acceptable to ask if he was a woman.

maverickallthetime · 21/12/2020 12:38

@Mallowmarshmallow the interpreter is very likely to get the briefing notes a bit before. It is very hard interpreting cold. Of course it can be done but I would imagine they would be briefed.

@HappyHomeWorker yes you do need an expressive face!!

Jodri · 21/12/2020 13:00

Oops! Yes there was a general election with Boris as leader, I obviously was so traumatised that I blanked it from my memory.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 13:27

Haha I literally just put the lunchtime briefing on and NS was asked what she'd give BoJo for Christmas as last week he said he's give her tonnes of fish. Her answer?

A hairbrush. Grin

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 21/12/2020 13:28

I've noticed this too!

It's absolutely deliberate. Nicola wore a blue jacket the other day and the interpreter wore a blue top under the dress she is wearing in the red and black image below.

I like it. Makes it look more streamlined.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 13:36

Today the interpreter (the same one!) was dressed to match the podium. Maybe this is taking coordination a step too far?! NS was toning, but didn't quite get the shade right.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/12/2020 13:37

Bugger. Forgot the link

dudsville · 21/12/2020 13:38

@HappyHomeWorker

I doubt they’re intentionally co-ordinating outfits to deliver such bad news.
This made me giggle, can you imagine. "Geez, I've got to deliver some really disappointing news... I wonder what might help, I know (finger snap)!"
Sojo88 · 21/12/2020 13:44

Facial expression is a very important part of BSL, and it does help if the interpreter isn't wearing anything too distracting. I've been learning BSL for a few years now and frequently watch signed programmes like this to improve my skills!

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 13:56

Just finding this very interesting Smile

HappyHomeWorker · 21/12/2020 15:05

@DontWalkPastTheCastle seriously? Grin

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 15:36

Yeah! It's not something I know much about, but I was fascinated by the interpreters at my university, it's incredible to watch the speed they work at. There were two, and they only did ten minutes at a time, it must be very intense!

Namechange2020lalala · 21/12/2020 18:06

I'm not sure how dressing smartly means you are running a 'slick PR machine'. It's just basic protocol.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 21/12/2020 18:25

It's part of the SNP BAD thing on here I think 🤷🏻‍♀️

Namechange2020lalala · 21/12/2020 19:03

Exactly why not just speak about policy as opposed to implying every action however minor is part of a sinister plot.
