Yesterday there were about 250 people still in hospital with Covid. Now the new revised figure is 48.
Hadn't the SG been called out on this, we would have happily carried on with the inflated figure.
So, we are making decision on public health based on a test that we know gives out a high number of false positives when the true positives are low, and based on numbers of hospital admissions that up until yesterday nobody knew.
In the meantime, whatever happened to the "zeroCovid" policy? It hasn't been mentioned for a while. We spent the summer locked up for what, then? I daresay, no reason whatsoever. Just because someone was chasing unicorns and decided that we all ought to.

@WaxOnFeckOff

Yes sock, I'm going on mine too. The numbers where I am going are similarly low as they are here, I'm not dragging my infested ass all over the country. We'll most likely either be out in the countryside walking or sitting in the cabin regardless so not exactly risky behaviour anyway.
Well quite. We are going away as a family group, to a self-catering cottage for 5 days. We were in the same place last year and spent the week walking on beaches, gathering sea glass, going round a local NT property, having takeaways and just enjoying the peace and quiet. It's SO low risk. Driving to get there.

We are not flying to Benidorm to go partying every night and to sit cheek by jowl with people we don't know on the beach.

Same here, DS and DH were hoping to have access to the tiny gym and we were hoping to have a meal in the Turkish in Cockermouth but if it ends up me cooking and only going for walks then it's fine, I would just like a different view for a few days.

I mean it's not like the many NHS staff sitting in isolation on full pay after a holiday to Europe is it? Not that it's only NHS doing this but it does my head in - let's all clap. (DH is NHS and this is colleagues so direct experience, not tabloid click bait)

@WaxOnFeckOff I used to live in cockermouth, It’s a lovely part of Cumbria. My Cumbrian dh loves his beer from Jennings brewery and has depleted his stash, your post has reminded me to check if they started up online deliveries again. I hope you all get your holidays and social distancing isn’t too curtailed.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/09/2020 15:10

Jodri, we will be staying not far from Cockermouth, it's a lovely wee place. We discovered the Turkish restaurant a couple of years ago and look forward to a visit. I'm also fairly obsessed with Booths and we'll look out for Jennings beer. DH and DS treat themselves to some local bottles for chilling out with in the evening. I'm not much of a beer drinker.

Oh no! I hope you are wrong @Ecosse.
I have been extremely compliant and understanding so far. According to travelling tabby there has only been 2 cases in my county over the last 7days. This seems very excessive when Glasgow and it’s neighbours are the counties/regions that are showing high infections and they are at least a 2 hour drive away from me. So What happened to all the talk of local lockdowns? Like what was imposed upon Aberdeen? I’m no longer convinced.

peoniesandfreesias · 18/09/2020 17:59

I was just looking at a short break during the October holiday but don't see the point in booking anything now. She can gtf if she starts with not meeting any other families from Monday too. I'll still be expected to show up at child care oops school next week where I have the joy of mixing with over 300 (pupil) and at least 40 (staff) households. My DD came out of hospital yesterday. My DM is elderly and I have to get her shopping etc. But fuck it, I'm one of those whining teachers so I just have to STFU and show up.

SockYarn · 18/09/2020 18:03

I need to get away. I haven't been anywhere for more than an afternoon since October last year. We have had two holidays cancelled because of this shit show and transporting my family to Northumberland for 5 nights is not dangerous in the slightest.

sainsburyshopper · 19/09/2020 09:04

peoniesandfreesias totally agree. I work in a high school. Ludicrous that life goes on pretty much as normal there but we can't have one friend round to the house. having agreed I'm probably most at risk in the family I could make sure I stayed out of the way! DH has been WFH since before the schools closed, he sees virtually no one! He did meet a work colleague yesterday for a socially distanced coffee!

I think it hard for everyone isn’t it and I’m fed up being frightened and scared. I don’t feel everyone was doing what they could and pulling together.
Were too individualistic in our thinking as a nation to get the best out of this situation we find ourselves in.

I wfh and hardly see anyone under normal times unless I chose to but my dh is a farm and equine vet and has had to work throughout this whole situation, as by law all vets have to provide 24 hour care and we still need food in the shops with his work supporting the farmers. It’s very difficult to socially distance with clients when holding animals for examinations and carrying out procedures which can be dangerous (I’ve lost count of how many times he’s been kicked let alone needed stitches). This is quite different to how small animal vets have had to carry out their work. So, no matter what happens it’s business as usual for my dh.

Alittlewornout · 19/09/2020 10:36

@Waxonfeckoff agree with you regarding some nhs staff and time off after they have been abroad. I am nhs too and it makes me so mad. I think they should have to take Annual leave.
We are just about to cancel a wee break in the peak district Dh was shielding so not worth the risk. Kids at uni is another story I am so so sorry for all our young people.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 19/09/2020 14:33

@jodri small consolation maybe - but all my horsey friends have heaps of praise for the vets. Where’s most have horror stories about small animal work right now.

Jodri · 19/09/2020 14:53

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane that’s so nice to hear.
