Hey.

Does anyone know what Edinburgh will be like due to COVID at the end of august? Will places be open? (Castle, shops)

Thank you.

It's easy to access the island from the beach at low tide; the barriers are only up at the end of the causeway entrance at the harbour. So you wouldn't realise it was closed unless you went that way.

It will be hoaching today in the sun!! I really feel for the people living on the road down to the car park - it's awful on days like this.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2020 15:27

It will be busy, friends mentioned have taken their caravan down that way.

Bodgedboxdye · 03/08/2020 00:10

Tried to book Stirling castle by they’re rolling out the days like they are with Edinburgh so will have to book before we go.

My partner has mentioned that he wants to try a double battered fish (fish in breadcrumb and batter) is this a thing?

oh, hope you are lucky with tickets then.

Never heard of that for fish. usually it's battered or breadcrumbed (usually called "special" fish). They don't do it at the only chippy we go to and I've never sen it in Edinburgh but it's been a long time since I've had Edinburgh chips.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 00:24

Having said that, our chippy only cooks to order so I'm sure they would do it if asked.

Groovee · 03/08/2020 09:55

Never heard of double battered fish!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/08/2020 15:14

He's maybe getting confused with a single fish, which is a fish without chips. I've never heard of a double fish!

FelicityPike · 04/08/2020 15:38

Never heard of a double battered fish either.

Bodgedboxdye · 04/08/2020 15:45

It was his friend that suggested it. /:

Has anyone tried the battered Mars bar? Is it nice? 🙃

Not tried it and don't fancy it tbh. I think it would have to be a decent chippy with nice, non fishy oil at the optimum temperature and I think the chippies doing them might not be those ones - therefore fishy soggy battered chocolate is all that comes to mind.
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 04/08/2020 17:20

If you have the car, we're just back from a holiday in Coldingham and we had a lovely boat trip. My dc are slightly older but there were younger children there too.
It's outdoors and everyone wears masks, on the one we went on anyway, which went from Eyemouth.
There are possibly some closer to Edinburgh.

FelicityPike · 04/08/2020 17:41

Deep fried mars bars....mainly just the tourists that buy them.
I had a bite of one....revolting and as @WaxOnFeckOff I’d worry about it being fishy,

Bodgedboxdye · 04/08/2020 19:24

I asked him what it was and he said it’s called A special fish supper.

I had a google and apparently you can get it at The Brig. (dunno where that is)

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2020 19:28

Special fish is usually just breadcrumbed instead of battered. Most chippies will do it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2020 19:31

There is a Brig Bar in Leith or the Brig chippy in Dunfermline.

Special fish is just deep fried breaded fish (usually haddock) our chippy will do Cod on request if they have it.

AllsortsofAwkward · 04/08/2020 19:37

We are going to Edinburgh on the 11th we booked the zoo weeks ago so definitely book now.

Nope never tried a deep fried mars bar or ice cream 🙈
Bodgedboxdye · 04/08/2020 20:01

@AllsortsofAwkward we’re up in the air about visiting the zoo so haven’t booked due to not knowing if we’re going to go.

@Groovee actual ice-cream? 😳

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/08/2020 20:02

Special fish is breadcrumbed, not battered and definitely not both. All chippies do it, but you have to wait for it, they don't usually have it ready.

I've had a deep-fried Mars Bar as a petit four in a swanky restaurant. It was nice but super-sweet. You really won't be missing out if you don't manage to track down one of them. Have a pizza crunch instead.

FelicityPike · 04/08/2020 20:05

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett. I could go a pizza crunch now!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/08/2020 20:07

@FelicityPike I was laughing to myself as I typed it but now I REALLY want one. With a litre of chippy sauce please.

Bodgedboxdye · 04/08/2020 20:18

What’s chippy sauce? Hmm

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett yup, I saw that it was made to order. I won’t be getting one but I think my partner may go for it. (:

Ewww. Just googled “pizza crunch” I’m good, thank you. 🤢

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2020 20:20

I miss chippy sauce :(

Can't get proper Edinburgh chippy sauce here, they actually offer you ketchup! Fucking KETCHUP!!!! They also have some brown monstrosity that doesn't look edible. Honestly though the chippy is great and everything is cooked to order so no more wait than usual. You come in one door, place your order and by the time you get to the other end and pay, it's usually near enough ready.

FelicityPike · 04/08/2020 20:21

I don’t even like chippies.
