where to eat in Glasgow

BigGlasses · 11/11/2019 13:35

I'm meeting up with 2 old flatmates in Glasgow for a weekend in November. We would like to go out for a nice meal together on Saturday night but as none of us live in Glasgow anymore we have no idea of where to book. Any suggestions?

We are staying in the merchant city, we want somewhere nice, ideally no childrens menu Grin, we are 40 year olds so not too loud music, no particular dietary requirements.

There is a seafood place called the finneston that I was at recently that is very nice it's maybe a bit far out though. I had my eldest with me but it really wasn't a kid place

PineappleDanish · 11/11/2019 15:03

The Dakhin is great if you like Indian.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2019 15:08

I'm dying to try 88.
We like The Butcher's block for steaks too.

Qua in merchant city is a fantastic italian,

Srictlybakeoff · 11/11/2019 15:16

The bar and grill in princes square is nice . You can sit outside or inside. There’s the Corinthian which is nearer merchant city but might be quite busy. Sartis does great Italian food. Chaophraya Is nice for Thai food , and Koolba for Indian. They are all n easy walking distance .
If you take a taxi the Finnieston is great but mainly fish orientated . The Ubiquitous Chip in the West end is a bit special .

SuntanC · 11/11/2019 16:38

It depends on how much you want to spend I suppose. The Spanish Butcher is great, and The Spiritualist is nearby for good cocktails.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2019 16:43

The Spanish Butcher is on my list too, actually for the fish dishes.

Srictlybakeoff · 11/11/2019 17:00

The Spanish butcher is nice , but very pricey, esp you have steak.

prettybird · 11/11/2019 17:16

If you're in the Merchant City, there's always upstairs at Babbity Bowsters.

Sarti's is a good shout but then I'm biased as it's a long-standing favourite.

If you want to push the boat out, there is Brian Maule at the Chardon d'Or. The à la Carte is expensive, but their pre-theatre is reasonable.

ArtificialArctophile · 11/11/2019 17:23

The Dhabba in the Merchant City is great if you like Indian food.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/11/2019 17:26

What Stroan said, except swap the Butchershop and replace with Hutchesons

sparklingwater1 · 11/11/2019 18:53

Chaophraya
The Spanish butcher
Anchorline
Le Chandon D'or (excellent tasting menu with accompanying wine!)

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 11/11/2019 19:16

I love Chaophraya honestly my favourite restaurant but it's Thai food so you'd have to like that. Two fat ladies at the buttery is also excellent but a little more out the way. It really depends how far out you want to go? Six by Nico can be good too and have a taster menu but it's out in Finnieston.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 11/11/2019 19:17

I would steer clear of Ardnamurchan lots of pre prepared low quality ingredients inflated for tourists.

Muthaafuckaa · 11/11/2019 19:25

We love Nippon Kitchen if you like Japanese and sushi

SuntanC · 11/11/2019 19:30

I agree with Smartcar- Six by Nico is really good. Particularly good value for what you pay. It fills up very, very fast though so you may struggle getting a table.

Sturmundcalm · 11/11/2019 19:42

not sure it's "nice" enough for what you're looking for but we really like Cafe Cossachok - just down from Merchant Square and does an excellent range of vodka shots as well as "real" food...

AxCap · 11/11/2019 19:47

The Spanish Butcher is amazing but, like pp have said, it is pricey. The truffle fries are worth it though 🤤
