My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

AH Chemistry this morning, this is another one dd needs for her offer so am crossing everything for her.

Studying has been going well but as last year highers proved, we cant rely on the specimen papers to paint a full picture.

Good luck to everyone sitting exams today.

YoScience · 18/05/2016 08:10

That's really lovely onemagnum Smile

Great news about the study unlucky!

Good luck everyone doing chemistry today!

I'm so glad DD decided not to do it, I can imagine the panic we would be having just now! Last exam on Friday, history.

weegiemum · 18/05/2016 11:34

Good luck to all taking Chemistry today!

AH Chemistry fine, according to DS, no surprises and nothing obscure.

That's us done now (phew).

OneMagnumisneverenough · 18/05/2016 14:15

That's good Goudy - time for a chill out now! This time in two weeks time it will all be over for us till next year when we have double trouble. The only subject that will be the same next year is Maths so I think it may just be the one day when we have both of them doing exams (one at N5 and one at Higher) on the same day.

rogueantimatter · 18/05/2016 14:16

All the best to Unlucky83's DD this afternoon and to the other chemistry candidates.

Woohoo for the AH chemistry parents who are finished.

Fantastic writing OneMagnum

Very much looking forward to 24th when DS will be finished. His study leave has been a bit horrible which is much better than I anticipated. Grin He had sat two exams by the end of the first week, so 40% over with quickly.

unlucky83 · 18/05/2016 16:28

We raced through the last unit this morning...hoping something stuck.
She's back...said it was OK - left the last two questions but seems to think she did ok for the rest of it - so I am hoping she has passed - scraped a C.
The student room have already got the MC answers up but she doesn't want to look which is fair enough...
Hope everyone else did ok...

wigglybeezer · 18/05/2016 16:31

Just collected DS2 from the bus, he says the Chemistry exam was pretty straight forward, better than the prelim, so a mixed bad for him so-far, still a little concerned about Geography (which is what he wants to study at Uni) and Maths but confident about the others.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 18/05/2016 16:36

well Graphics was greeted with some grimacing...this was the crash higher, with the class/teacher issues.

maths...I have no idea what happened there...he completely freaked, lost his nerve and was out in a hour and 20, in tears in the car ...I just don't know! He was so upset and cross, and broken.

Chemistry today...much happier, and just Physics to go next week

I hate what exams does to children! I hate how they keep changing it all!

Kr1stina · 18/05/2016 16:49

Well done unlucky , I hope she's passed. Though you must feel a bit frustrated that she waited until the day before the exam to ask for your help.

Wiggly - was that N5 or H chemistry ? DD said higher was " fair " although long, a lot of 2 and 3 mark questions. She zoomed through the MC quickly to give herself more time for the second part . She wants to do Ah so is hoping for an A.

we DD is fninshed now , so nearly two weeks of study leave with no studying to do . I predict she will be bored by this weekend , as most of her school pals have still got exams . Uni ones are fininshed though .

Today she announced " I didn't realise that I could have gone into school during study leave . I wish I'd done that , it would have been much more fun than sitting around the house doing nothing " !!

So that would be when she was up in her bedroom pretending to work then

Kr1stina · 18/05/2016 16:52

He was so upset and cross, and broken

Poor lad, this sounds very distressing. Was he ok for his other exams ?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 18/05/2016 17:03

he was fine for the Adv chemistry today, thank goodness...

I've just about come down to earth...worried to death he'd panic and do the same, but he's fine today....it'll just be the results that bring it all back

Still he has his plans, two conditional offers and a back up plan so it should not matter too much

I bred scientists, not mathematicians! :o

Kr1stina · 18/05/2016 17:45

He sounds like he's in a strong position then , if he has plans A B and C.

My DD is in 5th year and only has a plan A. Not because she's arrogant or even confident, shes just naive . I suspect that we'll be working on some other options from 9 August.

over involved over anxious mother

seb1 · 18/05/2016 18:06

Kr1stina what does your daughter want to do ?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 18/05/2016 18:09

DS1 hasn't a clue really, or not that he is telling us. i think he'd be happy just to keep going to school for the next 20 years and playing on his computer in his bedroom in the evening.

Actually scratch that, he'd still be happy getting carried around and fed with a spoon :o

DS2 wants a job involving History or Politics and want to do a degree that allows him to do some abroad and would like to travel and see the world.

Never get two the same.

prettybird · 18/05/2016 19:22

Ds says Chemistry was "ok" and that he's probably got an A in it but he's not sure. He says he found a few questions difficult and he's not sure that he put the correct answer down - but that they were generally one pointers.

He tells me now that the units that they've done since the Prelim (where he got a very good mark) he's struggled a bit with Hmm

6 down, 2 to go. Smile

AssembleTheMinions · 18/05/2016 20:31

Ok, now I'm really worried! Dd1 (and her entire AH class) said the chemistry exam was awful. A couple of questions for things that haven't been covered at all in class. I was hoping it was the same as last years higher maths and everyone found it difficult, but going by this thread it could just be our school that struggled.

Argh!! Waiting until 9th August will be awful.

Groovee · 18/05/2016 20:34

My young leader at brownies said Advanced higher chemistry was hard going. She got all A's in her Nat5's and highers.

Hope all those who have been down are ok xx

wigglybeezer · 18/05/2016 20:52

It was Nat 5 Chem that DS found straight forward. I haven't heard about AH, the very clever sonof a friend that I employed to tutor DS2 in maths and a bit of chemistry ( best £10/week I ever spent) was sitting it but he has an unconditional so isn't stressing

wigglybeezer · 18/05/2016 21:00

Ds2 wants to go to St Andrews, because he can do joint honours in Geography and Film Studies! It will be a stretch as he would need 4/5 A's at Higher and this is a boy who needed a scribe for most of primary school and started of in the nurture maths class ( bottom set!) at high school. He is a tortoise rather than a hare

GoudyStout · 18/05/2016 21:28

AssembleTheMinions I bumped into one of DS's friends who is super smart and he found AH Chemistry hard, so don't know if it is DS being over confident now. Although having said that, DS struggled with the Mathematics of Mechanics paper yesterday.

AssembleTheMinions · 18/05/2016 21:43

Ahh, thanks Groovee and Goudy I feel slightly better now. She needs a C for the offer she really wants but does have an unconditional for a different uni as her second choice so it's not as bad as it could be. But she really really wants her first choice. She was doing very well on all the specimen papers and was reasonably confident going into the exam as well.

prettybird · 18/05/2016 21:52

Fingers crossed for your ds wigglybeezer. I loved my years at St Andrews. It was only 4xB Highers when I went (went from S5), so as soon as I got the offer, I knew I'd have no problem.

Kr1stina · 18/05/2016 23:29

Seb - she wants to do dentistry goodness knows why

seb1 · 19/05/2016 00:04

Is she doing the reach program at Glasgow Uni. DD is only in 4th year but is more certain of what she doesn't want to do than what she does. Medicine has been scored off the list as her 2 elder cousins and their partners are all doctors currently just finished their specialist training and I think seeing them still doing major exams in the late 20s is not appealing !!! Can't say I fancy the worry either, these Nat 5s have nearly killed me.
