has anyone got any tips for t in the park?

ds is going for the first time

any tips for a terrified mum would be great

eg how much money to take/how to keep your stuff from being nicked

how to charge mobiles so I can text him all the time

what to take

how much food to take

anything else that anyone thinks of!

not been to T, but you can get battery charge packs in TK Maxx which I find handy for a charge or so.

You can pre-buy cases of beer so if there's a group it can work out quite well, maybe have a look at that.

First time my DS went to a gig I made him keep his decent phone t home and let him use an old almost forgotten one in the back of a draw. Then there was no issues if it got nicked. I just gave him a spare battery.

He took nothing of value.
He was with a crowd of decent lads but I knew they would probably have a drink so I let him take a few tinnies from Asda rather than pay a ridiculous mount of money inside the festival.
Again, they used an old tent. There was no way I was letting him borrow my Terra Nova!

They had a blast.

DD is going to this too - it's her second festival. I will ask about money etc. They're buying food today, I think lots of fillers (Pringles) and a bag of oranges, but I'll look later.

They take any old 'brick' phone they can borrow from someone's dad that's been kept in working order but they won't mind losing... and she's bought a cheapy bum bag to avoid having a pick-able backpack on.

Your DS may not want to do this, but she and her friends have made bunting to tie round their tents so they'll be easy to find as a group - I think landmarks are useful late at night!

Friends have bought 'refresher' passes for showers, but dd hasn't (Hmm) - they're sold out now anyway, so my comments on that are redundant...

Wheelie bin liners!
Put sleeping bag, clothes, towels etc inside them so if it rains it's kept dry.
Wheelie bin liners are also big enough to sleep in so get inside a sleeping bag then inside a liner and you'll be dry and warm all night.
Don't take anything you would t mind losing, keep anything valuable on you at all times.
Also Sun cream and baby wipes.
The toilets always run out of paper so take your own.
Il keep thinking and come back if I remember anything.

Agree with something to make the tent easier to find, maybe a flag?
Or even just put their tent close to someone with a flag, I have often found my way back knowing I'm near the tent with the big pirate flag (or something like that)

My parents live near where it used to be, and apparently shewees were the order of the day for female festival goers.

It is a device that women can use to pee standing up. There was an article on them in Good Housekeeping once which referred to them as Female Urination Devices and helpfully shortened this to FUDS - oh how I cackled in a very unladylike manner Grin

Ah a shewee is that Grin my sister goes every year and says the males fill bottles with urine the chuck it into the crowds! Confused

ssd, definitely a holdall to carry all his stuff then a smaller one he will carry around when he leaves the tent for his phone, money etc.

Seriously? You'll be lucky if he cleans his teeth once while he's there. He's 17 - let him get on with it and don't let him take anything valuable that isn't his.

christ you dont know him, he's worse than a girl, he showers every day and goes nowhere without brushing his teeth and gelling his hair, he hates wearing anything thats creased and wont wear anything twice (can just imagine how the weekend will go Grin)

He probably will have to get on board with wearing stuff twice!
Dd is taking £50: she reckons that's enough to buy a burger or something every night, and she has a rucksack half full of pop tarts and the like - as well as little cans of pimms and lemonade etc.

I would say, being a huuuuge veteran of these things after she went to one last year Wink: he won't text or call as much as you'd like, and you'll send him little 'hey hope all is ok?' Messages and then get anxious when he doesn't reply ... But he'll be ok, and you'll hear from him when he needs you to pick him up from the station!

He will have a brilliant time. You'll just be a bit on edge this weekend!
