Anyone else sad that the summer holidays are nearly over?

Is anyone else really sad that the summer holidays are coming to an end soon? I feel like loads of parents are saying they are looking forward to the children returning to school. I feel the opposite. No hectic school runs, no tired children forced to do homework, no packed lunches to make the night before. And just lovely time together as a family. We have had the best summer in my family. Anyone else feel the same?

The last couple of years I have been a bit sad when the summer holidays have come to an end. But because of the heat and the fact we had a camping holiday that exhausted all of us this year, I’m more keen than usual for kids to go back to school.

I’m with you on the homework though. Not looking forward to having to do that again.

I'm dreading it, both my kids hate school, one is autistic and struggles massively, it also means I have to go back to work and although I love my job, I will miss lazy days, lie in's and spontaneous days out

I can’t wait to be back in routine!
I’m on annual leave this week and can tell my son is ready for normal routines. They days are so long without school to break it up 😂

DS had a big surgery mid holiday (planned) so I feel like the first half I had it in my head that it was coming, and the second half is recovering. We cancelled our summer hols cos it clashed. So it just felt like an expensive holiday of filling time

I feel the same. We definitely aren’t the Waltons and the older children are often out with friends but the freedom of no school runs, no forced homework’s etc is lovely. Not looking forward to returning to that.

I’ve really enjoyed having a break from the worry of school (DS is AuDHD) so it’s been a nice mental break for me.
DS has had the best summer, which in return I’ve really enjoyed it.
im going to miss him being with me everyday but I am craving that school routine back abit.

No. We are so ready, not just me, the kids too! We have an 8 week summer and this last week has aged me in real time.

My DD has been back at school for a week.

I'm sure once routine kicks in again, all will be good. I have just appreciated time with my kids, and less pressure.

DS is about to go into Yr11 so I’m really not looking forward to it this time…

Bit sad im heat intolerant and its been too hot for me to go out the one big day trip was a disaster no-one enjoyed we spent too much time at home doing nothing now its cooled off its nearly time for school again

Very depressing

I always feel a bit sad when our children go back. They’re at college and uni now and I still love having them home. They’re so relaxed and not rushing to fit everything in. College starts back in a couple of weeks but my oldest doesn’t go back to uni for another month so making the most of it.

No children school age any more, but I’d love for this summer to carry on. First great summer for years and our bloody garden is a war zone. We needed a new shed which has caused much more work than anticipated and new garden layout. It’s been soul destroying to not be able to use it, and the summer is virtually over, I’m so sad. Hopefully we have a good summer next year.

It’s been lovely though hearing our neighbours children enjoying the summer. Next doors little one stands there and shouts “is there anyone in their garden who’d like to chat with me”, so adorable 😊

I'm relieved.....my sons are 21 and 18. It's been an absolute expensive summer! Eldest starts an apprenticeship in two weeks and his brother is going to college in 3 weeks. Yippee! 😀

No school age children now but sad the summer is drawing to a close!

We have animals and this summer has felt more like a battle than a rest, keeping everyone fit, and well, and well watered.

I really sympathise with the parents of ND dc on this thread though. The school battle is real and so are the post-school day meltdowns. Sending support to all! 💐

Always sad when the holidays come to an end

I am the opposite this year. This summer has been one of the worst for us. Just too hot to do anything. We did have a nice holiday someone cooler but my DS needs structure and other than the holiday I have just been working all the time.

I can't bloody wait, no more screaming (for no apparent reason) no footballs being kicked as hard as possible at a six foot fence and the ball still manages to come into my garden. 6 hrs of relative peace, it will be bliss 😊

I’m gutted. I love having mine off. The weather has been gorgeous and we’ve had a really lovely summer. On the plus side dd is back having graduated and is doing her postgrad in our home city so it will be nice having her around. The youngest 3 will all be heading back to school and I will miss having them home but at least hopefully the food will stop disappearing at such an alarming rate.

I hate the end of the summer holiday. This isn’t a brag but just to put some perspective on it: I work flexibly so can take a lot of time off with the kids, we live near a beach and forests, we can afford day trips and holidays… so, of course I love the holidays.
I completely empathise with people feeling relief at the end of juggling the childcare, the extra expense, the lack of routine… experiences are different for everyone.
I do need to get back to working more hours and earning some money but I wish I could live in a perpetual summer holiday bliss.

I'm sad too. I love the holidays. My DH is a teacher so it's lovely having everyone off. Unfortunately I don't get to take many holidays in the actual school holidays. However, I'm part time so it isn't as bad as it could be! I've had 2 weeks this summer, but of my 8 weeks I'm only allowed 3-4 weeks per year in the school hols. I wish I could have more. It's my favourite time. We aren't rich, so there aren't loads of days out or whatever. But time just doing normal stuff together is lovely. My kids still at home are age 13 and 11. I have a 24 year old so I'm all too aware of how fast the years go. I'm trying to enjoy them all, but I get sad each time another one passes. Slow down time!

Me! I love the school holidays. Even with work I manage to get more time than usual with my teens. They are good company.

I am so sad about it. It’s been a lovely break from the absolute stress of the daily grind and nice to spend time with the children. I told dc1 to let’s not waste the next week being sad and make sure we enjoy it as we’re still on holiday.
