Anyone else sad that the summer holidays are nearly over?

Is anyone else really sad that the summer holidays are coming to an end soon? I feel like loads of parents are saying they are looking forward to the children returning to school. I feel the opposite. No hectic school runs, no tired children forced to do homework, no packed lunches to make the night before. And just lovely time together as a family. We have had the best summer in my family. Anyone else feel the same?

It's so nice to know there are plenty of other people like me. My dc are 6 and 9. I appreciate every school holiday with them. I know how fast time flies.

My dc are a lot older now, at 26 and 21, but I used to love the holidays and hated it when they went back to school. Now I hate the children going back as the roads will be busier in the mornings and afternoons. I like it when the roads are that wee but quieter!

I’m really sad too. This has been an amazing summer. We have a big age gap between children - DD is 17 so this is one of the last summers she’ll be a child at home. Everything is just so much more relaxed. Even at work the atmosphere has been much nicer with the warm weather.

I’ll miss sitting in my back garden!

Dreading the rush hour commute.

I think in years gone by, the UK was often a rainy place for much of the holidays but for this summer and last year, since there was no rain at all, every day is a good day to go out!

Desperately sad. I love having my dd around more and the time to properly turn off and relax and play is so beneficial to her. I really don't understand why our school holidays are so ridiculously short. It's like there isn't enough time for them to just be children. Compared to most other countries our holidays in total seem pitiful.

Yes, I love the summer. I'm really not happy that the nights are already drawing in.

Definitely love the summer holidays because there’s no morning rush, no uniforms to keep track of, no faffing about putting money in the lunch account, no reminding about homework and no endless driving to pick up from random sports matches. When I wfh I have the nicest mornings and when I’m in the office I can leave much later because there’s no traffic.
BUT I’m happy for us to get back into a routine and mostly to be able to work without feeling a bit guilty I’m not hanging out with ds if he’s at home (he’s 14 not a toddler 😂) and often on a Friday dh and I go out for a nice lunch together.
This year was a bit different, I had an operation and our summer holidays had to be cancelled and I’ve spent a few weeks signed off recovering and not doing much and I’m even more keen to get everything back to normal.
but I do enjoy the slower laid back holiday pace and I’ll be sad when the hustle and bustle takes back over again.

Totally with you OP. We had an amazing holiday and then back at home we’ve had lots of play dates and lovely chill out days at home. I’m looking forward to a bit of routine again but will really miss spending so much time with the kids and not rushing about doing school runs, clubs etc.

Yes but only because of the increased traffic 😄

My kids are no longer in school but I used to love the summer holidays - I worked part time so it was easier really but I miss those 6 weeks of fun!
