"Mind popping that pimple on my bum hun?"

Does anybody else do odd little things for their DHs/DPs?

Here is a list of the things I often do for my DH:

  • I cut the fingernails on his right hand (he is right handed and cannot cut properly with his left hand).
  • I cut his toenails for him.
  • I trim his nose hair, ear fluff, eyebrows and any other stray hairs on his body.
  • I squeeze a recurring blackhead on his bum (he cannot reach this spot).
  • I scrub all the dead skin off his body, once a month (while he is in the bath - he normally showers).
  • he gets a heat rash every now and again, either in his armpits or groin...I wash it down, then put baby bum cream and powder on it.

Is this weird or normal?

Edgar...I like to think of myself as once removed from a zoo animal, tbh

I know we used to be apes...but it's just a bit bestial, isn't it ?

EdgarAllenPoll · 20/05/2010 20:18

well, to be more accurate, large land primates describes the human species.

whistles tune from stage version of of the apes

AndieWalsh · 20/05/2010 20:19

Creaming and powdering his 'groin' is a bit of a wrong 'un, innit?

AnyFucker · 20/05/2010 20:19

and my thumbs oppose

just try going a day without scratching yourself AF...

cheerfulvicky · 20/05/2010 20:38

EdgarAllen, I was thinking much the same thing. It sounds like a mum with her child, the kind of attitude where they sit there meekly (ideally!) while you do what needs to be done, then they scamper off and play. Or something
I would feel weird about doing those things for a partner, kind of uncomfortable, like - why can't he do it himself? Why does he want to be babied? It would just make me faintly uneasy, sorry.

NinaJane · 20/05/2010 20:38

Andie...he gets terrible rashes and actually scratches himself open (breaks the skin). I help him by washing it down for him, but I find that it doesn't relieve the burning itchiness of the rash. I have tried various medical creams on the rash, but because the skin is broken, it burns like hell and because baby products are gentle, I find that it works best for DH's rashes. I have a little ds, so the powder and cream is always available, I don't go out and buy it specifically for my DH.

Oh, BTW E.A I meant your post on the first page, not the one above mine...

Sorry AF

NinaJane · 20/05/2010 20:42

Cheerfulvicky...of course he can do it for himself! But I like to help him where I can. I don't do it the whole day long (as some would suggest), it is occasional and I honestly don't mind.

...oh if only. DD runs away as soon as the hair brush appears (unless it is plain i am handing it to her to use on me) and screams incessantly until finished. Every day.

a bit of meek submission wouldn't hurt there...

WhatWouldMadonnaDo · 20/05/2010 20:45

AF - Primates have opposable thumbs. It is not a trait unique to humans.

OP - it does sound odd

lostinwales · 20/05/2010 20:50

Ummm, the last person I did that for was a tetrapleagic at work, but each to their own

AndieWalsh · 20/05/2010 20:57

You sound like you are talking about your two year old, Nina.

sungirltan · 20/05/2010 21:03

ewwwww at the spot squeezing though dh often requests this and seems astonished when i decline!

AnyFucker · 20/05/2010 21:09

WhatWouldMadonnaDo...you are right

I was thinking of chickens

errm, are you who I think you are ?

Thediaryofanobody · 20/05/2010 21:21

But why can't he wash and cream his own balls, why do you need to do it?

Not getting at you just seems such a strange thing to do it would never occur to me.
If your both happy then I don't see the problem even if it's is odd behavior.

BosomForAPillow · 20/05/2010 21:29

I get dh to cut my right hand nails so that one doesn't seem so weird.

Agree with others that he could do his own heat rash/hairs/toe nails and how does he even know there's a blackhead on his bum?!

I dont think it is necessarily a weird list of things to do but I find it weird that you tell people (MN or RL, esp RL) about it.

notquitenormal · 20/05/2010 22:07

Hmmm, I do DPs hair with the clippers (head hair...such as it is) and I'll do a spot if he can't reach it. In return he'll put lotion on my feet and ointment on the excema patch on my back.

He ca do his own nails, random hair removal and body scrubbing and he would get short shrift if he ask me to do it for him. And the bum powder goes far too far for me I'm afraid.

This is one thread that I'm not sharing on - you all think I'm weird enough already.

Suffice to say that Ninajane has nothing on me - it is reciprocated though, it's a two way thing.

DH runs a mile when his sister wants to pop his spots though!

This thread takes me back, DD managed to get nits every year at primary school, I used to love cracking them between my nails, very satisfying.

TBJP · 20/05/2010 23:54

Don't worry, OP - sounds normal enough to me.
I pluck DH's eyebrows (he does put up a bit of a fight though - wimp), and clean his ears with cotton buds, love it when I scoop out a good bit of wax.

That's it though. He doesn't get spots, but I'd gladly squeeze them if he did. And he does his own nails. He's let me buff them before though!
