are you a trendy mum who looks younger. i am 46 but people think i am bout 39. i am a fitness instructor so have managed to keep slim. have three kids, two teenagers and a ds of four. have a real problem telling people my age especially as my dp is only 37 in March. are you in the same situation ? ?

Don't know how old people think I look (have never asked them) but I am 40 and don't think I look it. It helps that my children are only aged 8, 7, 4, and nearly 2.

Lonelymum · 08/02/2005 13:17

Oh and my dh is younger than me but not by your 9 years!

WideWebWitch · 08/02/2005 13:18

I'm not in my forties yet (38) but do have a dp 10 years younger than me. But since I don't care what anyone thinks about it I don't worry about telling anyone my age. Although people don't seem to ask.

iota · 08/02/2005 13:20

I'm 46 and dh is 38. I have 2 small children (5 and 3) so people tend to assume that I'm much younger than I am - I do of course look youthful or would never have hooked my younger man

iota · 08/02/2005 13:27

and I really enjoy telling people (whilst holding ds2's little hand) no I don't think I'll go back to work when he goes to school - I get my pension in 4 years.

sansouci · 08/02/2005 13:31

I'm 42 & dh is 55. Next to him, I'll always look young . I'm certainly not trendy, nor that slim or fit (grudgingly admit that I'm working on it, tho) & can hardly be fussed to put make-up on. Less is more & all that. Our babies are 4.5 yrs. & 18 months so I look pretty haggard most of the time, too.

maltesers · 08/02/2005 14:00

i was really flattered when my 16 yr old ds' male friends said they thought i was 'hot'.i laughed but my son was embarrassed bout it. gave me an ego boost. god i need it as dp rarely wants sex.

Apparently so.

WWW thinks so anyway don't you?

Actually most of the Mature Mumsnetters I've met look pretty darned gorgeous.

MI, you do indeed look younger than your tender years. No, you do. It must be all that clean living in your twenties or maybe a lot of fun is good for one? You haven't been a smoker have you? I think it makes a huge difference when I look at friends who have/do smoke compared to those who never have/don't.

maltesers · 08/02/2005 14:20

cor, what teacher told you that beetroot. in fact his friends said i was a m.i.l.f. too. OMG !

OP posts:
maltesers · 08/02/2005 14:23

who were you talking to wickedwater ? and no i dont smoke. have had my dose of real stress though with men, sick kids and awful mother. so its a miracle i look younger.

I don't look that scary without makeup. Otherwise I wouldn't set foot out the door barefaced. (Bareassed is another thing entirely!)

Whe I don't wear make up I apparently look 'tired'!

WideWebWitch · 08/02/2005 14:39

ha ha sobernow! maltesers, my post was to MI (Motherinferior) in response to hers asking me if I thought she looked younger than she is. Which I do!

sansouci · 08/02/2005 14:43

And here's to you, Mrs Robinson.

Tinker · 08/02/2005 15:04

I am and I used to but, urgh, some mirrors in the house definitley need repositioning. Never look at yourself in the mirror next to your darling dewy skinned daughter. Boyfriend is 7 years younger though so can't look too bad

JanH · 08/02/2005 16:02

Tinker you know you only look about 29! And so does beety. I'm not standing next to either of you ever again!
