Hi I really need people’s perspectives on this as I am feeling extremely sad, and also a horrible person at the same time.

been with my partner three years and it hasn’t been easy. Everything I was against he done . Time and time again. I stayed and gave more chances because I love him and know deep down he wanted to change and have a good life .

theres this one friend of his. They have been friends for years . Apparently ‘ best friends’ but he is bad news . Deals drugs , takes drugs , been to jail for numerous things. They were together quite a bit when we first met and there were always drugs involved . One thing Im dead against . Coke , weed Valium you name it. Apparently he was happy my partner was trying to turn his life around with out drugs but then would text him almost daily to meet up and do drugs . This pissed me off so bad .

his partner is the same as him also . Absolute nightmare . If it wasn’t for my partner I wouldn’t even know these people exist . Loads went on last year . My partner would sneak off and sniff with him. Would just leave me and promise he would be back in half hour . Wouldn’t see him until the next day . This one finished me off completely. Then one day he was supposed to meet me for food half way through work because it was the first time he was working locally . I got ready then all of a sudden he was too busy. Turns out his friend went over and they done drugs . I got so much hate for this person it’s unreal . And iv had so much hate for my partner too . His friend attacked me when I went out for a few hours on Boxing Day . I only had one drink so remember every single thing that happened . But him and his girlfriend were high on coke and both attacked me . Now . If this was the other way around I’d never in a million years speak this my friend again . But instead . Nothing was even said .
he did back off a little bit then it was fully for a few months . Obviously things have been a lot better because he wasn’t in his life no more . I can’t say anything bad about this Person . It’s crazy how much my partner will defend him . No one likes him apart from the same people like him . Even his family have said he has ways needed to get away from him and they all hate him as much as me .
for a few months hes had hardly 0 contact with him and it’s been nice . Things are finally getting there with us and drugs ect . We only the other day got things in place to move in together. He’s been taking no drugs and I know I have to trust him now . Then I find out the friend is back on the scene . It’s give me anxiety but iv dealt with it . Last night I got paranoid that that friend when he seen him the other day have him something like he always used too . So I looked in his phone and they had been messaging most of the day . I didn’t look through them just scrolled for certain words . Then I see this and I don’t know why it’s made me severely anxious and sad but it did and this is what I need to know if this is a me problem now . His friends grandad died . The message was you coming to the pub after the funeral . It’s going to be packed lol . My partner yea good excuse for a few drinks. For some reason this has me spiralling .

its just all sneaky behaviour like before . If he goes I know exactly where this will go . Him sniffing and smoking weed . And I can’t cope with it . If been through so much these last three years with him and I feel like all his promises of change and no more lies ect have just been thrown in my face . I couldn’t tell him what I seen because I know he would flip and defend his friend all over again . I just went really quiet .

i cant be with my partner when this person is still on the scene . Because I can’t live with no more worrying or anxiety . Im going to tell him today and say if he wants a future with me then tjere will have to be no more contact with his friend .

please tell me am I in the wrong here ? For feeling the way I am ? Thankyou

You need to end the relationship. Your partner is addicted to drugs. He lies and decieves you when it's convenient. It's not going to change. This will be your life unless you break it off.

OrdinaryGirl · 07/10/2026 07:14

So sorry you are having to deal with this, it sounds dreadful!
Trust your instincts. And you are about to see Mumsnet speaking with one voice as they often do on these threads. This chap and his friend are very clearly bad news for any woman wanting to build a wholesome, positive, healthy life on the right side of the law, with safety and calm for her family.

The one thing I would say is that issuing ultimatums doesn’t work. Being clear about your boundaries and making decisions on the basis of those boundaries and your values does work, as long as it doesn’t depend on another person changing their behaviour.

Make a decision on the basis of the evidence you actually have, not on what your chap may or may not agree to do. The friend is a red herring here. If it wasn’t this friend, it would likely be another one, and your chap can make excuse after excuse to say his behaviour is not his fault.

The evidence:
🚩Your partner does drugs
🚩Your partner repeatedly lies

Staying with your current partner will lead to Bad Things. You can do better than this. I suspect being with a lying, drug-using man is not what you dreamed of when you were younger.

It’s ok to draw this relationship to a close - your future self will be proud and relieved that you did. You are allowed to choose a different life path.

Wishing you well OP 💐

Copperoliverbear · 07/10/2026 07:17

Why are you mixing with these sort of people you seem decent, you will never win the drugs will always come first.
pack his bags and tell him to leave. Block him and find a decent man.

Blankitout · 07/10/2026 07:27

He is an addict OP.
Things can only get worse.
Please put yourself first and end the relationship.

almondflake · 07/10/2026 07:31

He will not change and you can’t trust him to change whatever he promises . You can issue all the ultimatums you like , he will agree to every one to keep you on side but break his word every time .
like others have said if you want a good happy life you need to break it off for your own peace and happiness .
You know who he is , he’s weak and an addict , you’ll probably see a wonderful side to him at times but he’ll always go back to his friend and the drugs .
Look at your future with this man if you have children he will never put you and them first, you will always be on the lookout for signs that he’s back on drugs .
Protect your future self and your future children from him .
You are not a bad person for leaving him , look towards a brighter future without him x

HapsburgChin · 07/10/2026 07:33

OP, you can’t change anyone else’s behaviour, ever. Only your own. Dump your boyfriend. It’s ridiculous that you’re even contemplating moving in with someone who’s an addict and has habitually mistreated you. Have therapy to figure out why you think this is ‘love’ and why you should keep giving this waste of space ‘chances’.

Forget the ‘best friend’. You’re not in a relationship with him, and you’re projecting much of your anger at your boyfriend onto him. Use that anger to leave. It’s completely irrelevant whether you think you love him. You’re choosing, over and over, to make your own life worse.

Serenity75 · 07/10/2026 07:37

He sounds like a total loser who care more about his drugs and friends than you. Leave him and spare yourself the pain and aggravation that you’re going through. It’s difficult to see the wood from the trees when your in the middle of this kind of things, but from what you’ve written, your “partner” seems to be all downside and no positives.

cartagenagina · 07/10/2026 07:45

Just end it.

Alwaysrushingabout · 07/10/2026 07:47

You should have ended it after the first time.

SoVeryVeryBored · 07/10/2026 07:51

Your partner is a waste of space druggie, if he didn’t want to behave this way he wouldn’t . The sooner you dump him the sooner you can get on with your life.

Tel12 · 07/10/2026 07:51

Don't waste any more of your time. Life's short, he's chosen his own path and you really don't have to go with him.

donotknowhowtofeel · 07/10/2026 08:04

No, just No.

Pashazade · 07/10/2026 08:20

This is not a relationship. It is a disaster. Please stop wasting your time. He doesn’t care and you will spend forever trying to fix him. It will not happen unless he chooses it and he has made it clear he won’t.
End the relationship, block him on everything, move on. Start life again without a drug addict destroying any chance you have of future happiness. You owe yourself more than this.

whippersnapper55 · 07/10/2026 08:35

The only thing you've done wrong is waste 3 years of your life with this loser! Please don't waste any more. Leave him to his druggie mates and get on with your life. Find someone decent to be with!

Seaoftroubles · 07/10/2026 09:06

OP why would you want to spend your life with a dead beat druggie who prioritises drugs, alcohol and his drug addict friends over you? End the relationship as you know he won't change.

ThatGoldScroller · 07/10/2026 09:15

You need to end your relationship, not his friendship.
He’s picked his friend and drugs many times, his actions are telling you what he wants to do.
You think life will be great if his friendship is over but I’m not convinced, whatever he is getting from this “outlet” of friendship/drugs he has not dealt with.
Sometimes it feels when you walk away that you have lost or wasted 3 years. But better 3 than 4 or more.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 07/10/2026 09:16

It's lovely that you've accepted that your partner is going to regularly use drugs and hang out with violent people who assault you. Well done on showing him that this is completely acceptable and going the extra mile by preparing to move in with him. What a happy tale of true romantic love 😍

Meanwhile back in the real world. What the fuck are you thinking op? This man has shown you time and time again that he doesn't respect you or give a fuck about your opinions. Get him in the bin where he belongs.

Cardhey · 07/10/2026 09:19

Yabvvvu for not ending this relationship 3 years ago or now

Nearly50omg · 07/10/2026 09:20

Why didn’t you call the police on his friend? YOU and you alone are responsible for all this continuing as you don’t have to put up with this shit! Stop being with a drug addict and report his useless twat of a friend and his gf to the police for assault!

dairydebris · 07/10/2026 09:21

Everything you're against he's done.
One thing you absolutely can't abide is drugs, yet he does them all the time.
His friends abuse you.

Come on.

Make your actions match your internal compass or you'll lose yourself.

So far you've shown him you'll put up with literally anything he does.

Leave him- self respect demands it.

Agatha1989 · 07/10/2026 09:22

End this sham of a relationship and remember this man will always choose drugs over you.

Imonmyownhere · 07/10/2026 09:24

Please find some self respect OP and finish this relationship. 🙏

sherbetlemonade · 07/10/2026 09:32

You want us to tell you that you are in the wrong? No chance. Just end it now.

thisismeithinkorisit · 07/10/2026 09:36

ok, you say you love him so you just had to stay and give him more chances. but why do you love him? from the off he's been a druggie l, something you're opposed to. He's lied to you consistently and let you down. His mate attacked you and is STILL his mate.

please, explain to yourself as much as us, what it is you love about your drug taking, lying, neglectful boyfriend?

1983Louise · 07/10/2026 09:40

Why the heck did you get with him in the first place. You need some respect for yourself, it's horrendous behaviour, you need to finish it.
