Talking about s*x life with ex-wife?

I am in a fairly newish relationship. Both been married before and divorced. His more recent than mine but still a decent amount of time.

We’ve spoken in general terms re what went wrong in marriages, for me lack of intimacy and some other things and he has said similar issues. I don’t mind talking in general terms as I think it’s good to get an idea of whether we would be compatible and what the other person is looking for in a relationship…

However I feel like sometimes he goes into too much detail regarding intimate things with ex-wife. Like I am aware of positions, frequency… he even managed to drop in that the first time he told her he loved her was during sex. I would say this was a little my fault as I was telling what I thought was a funny story after a good friend contacted me to say her new man had done that (said I love you during sex) and she was taken aback and didn’t know what to do and felt awkward.

But this was after already having a conversation with him about the level of detail he is giving me re the past sex life with her.

I completely accept he had a life before me, loved, had sex etc. but I just don’t feel comfortable with the level of detail about intimacy and I feel it’s putting a dampener on things as I am trying to make my own memories and special moments with him and I don’t want these images in my head to compare!

We are exclusive and both have said we have feelings for each other but no I love yous yet.

Not sure if I am being jealous and insecure or if it’s a red flag from him but I do feel uncomfortable. Any advice appreciated.

It’s bad enough in itself, but he’s also reneged on his promise to stop doing it. Double red flag. And the sex isn’t even that good!

disclaimer long time married zero experience, but I’m not sure this would bother me at an early stage of a relationship IF it was said at what I felt was an appropriate time, “that was amazing I’ve never experienced that” but I’m not sure I want to hear it all the time, would want to be constantly compared or feel intimidated by his memories of his ex.
I don’t think I could cope though if I was the underperforming one, being told multiple times ex was much better.

Grim. And I bet sex with his ex was great in the early days too. If it isn’t even that great for you now I’d say this relationship doesn’t have longevity.

I am not desperate to be in a relationship, I’ve been single many years. As you get older it’s quite hard the dating scene, all men seem to have issues of some sort.

This man has appeared to have a lot of good qualities hence I’ve tried to sort this issue before and get him to understand my feelings which he seemed to take on board.

I have cancelled our date this weekend, and I’m not certain I will see him again. I just need some time to think.

My partner was married for 20 years and they have two adult children.

So, im.assuming they had sex at least twice...

Thats literally all I know. And all I need to know.

I would walk away from someone who did this. Firstly, I wouldn't want to know; secondly, it would be hugely disrespectful to her and me; thirdly, I'm not interested in being compared to another woman even if it's favourable to me.

Besides, everything he says to you about her will be what he says to the next woman about you.

You're your own person..not a comparison site.
Bin this one.

So you brought up a conversation about someone saying they said I love you during sex and he told you a story of how he did? Sorry to me that was just a conversation. And where’s the line with over sharing if ye are trying to really get to know each other and figure out things because ye’ve been in serious relationships before? I wouldn’t see it as the big deal everyone else does personally

Way to ignore most of the Op @Morepositivemum

Op… you haven’t actually cracked on with this have you?? Because the fact you didn’t wrap things up after the first time he started waffling on about sex positions with his ex is concerning

Been with my boyfriend 6 years now, I was married for 23 and he was with an ex for 10 years. We have never gone anywhere near this subject, it's certainly never occurred to me and I know it wouldn't have to him.
