Am I overreacting to my husband laughing at another woman on TV?

Husband & I were watching a TV program the other day where a couple with children moved to France to renovate a old property.

The wife, kept on making jokes about her husband.
Some to my mind were slightly inappropriate.
She came across as someone who wanted attention, her husband was the complete opposite.

My husband, thought this woman, was highly amusing, everytime she made a comment or a joke,my husband would start laughing out loud.
This happend numerous times during the 1hr program.

He even had the nerve to ask me if I found her funny? I did not find her funny at all,but manipulating in her broken english.

We have been married over 40 yrs,he's never really been the type to flirt, but I felt he was on this occasion. His behaviour made me feel very uncomfortable!

Am I over reacting,as I am feeling disappointed at the amount of attention he was showing towards this person, while I was present.

I am not usually a jealous person, but feel annoyed by my husband's lack of awareness, regarding how I feel.

I can be hyper vigilant!
Am I being pathetic? Over sensitive as something tells me that I'm not!

Would like to know how you would feel & Your thoughts?

Thank you for your thoughtful messages. Let's hope you when you reach 66 yrs. When your husband thinks that a female that's annoying, not funny on tv is amusing & laughs.
Would you join in with the laughter! I wonder?🤔

My DH finds Michael MacIntyre funny.
I find him annoying.
My DH laughs when he's on TV.
I don't.

I don't assume my husband is flirting with Michael MacIntyre via the medium of 15-year old "Live At The Apollo" episodes.

I’m a year or two younger than you at the most and my husband is allowed to like things and people that I do not. He finds lots of things funny that I don’t and vice versa.

Humanswarm · 22/06/2026 15:14

Oh my, I thought at 66 I might finally have my shit together..apparently not.

eh yes as it’s a woman off the telly,

outerspacepotato · 22/06/2026 15:55

Telepathic flirting. The truth is out there.

Funny is a matter of taste. Just because you didn't find the woman funny, doesn't mean others don't. Some people enjoy Michael Macintyre fgs.

Hopefully you're having an enormous laugh at your own thread, tho.

NegativeFreak · 22/06/2026 16:11

Quite an unhealthy response on your part, OP. I'd be trying to unpack why I feel so threatened by someone on the telly.

WellThatIsABitMad · 22/06/2026 16:12

What in the name of all that is holy are you on about? How can your husband flirt with a person on the television, through the television? Get a grip.

Noce · 22/06/2026 16:14

You really need to get a grip OP: your reaction to your husband laughing at someone on TV is very unreasonable

I wonder if you laugh when there’s a male on TV you find funny.. don’t ever go and watch a comedian together!

Dweetfidilove · 22/06/2026 16:30

manipulating in her broken english.
Interesting concept 🤔. How did she do that? Was she manipulating her husband or yours?

TiredMummma · 22/06/2026 16:47

What on earth. It’s entirely normal to laugh at someone on tv and find them funny. He thought it was odd you didn’t find it funny. You can have different opinions. Also you can even think someone is attractive without it extending to something else. You sound like a very insecure person, worrying after 40 years

BuildbyNumbere · 22/06/2026 17:15

How can you flirt with someone on TV?
Do you never laugh at any funny males? Comedians, actors in films? Yes, basically, you are overreacting … and being quite ridiculous.

This is very strange and this comment does not make a lot of sense!

BuildbyNumbere · 22/06/2026 17:19

OP … who was the women anyway? We can then confirm if she has form for flirting with her viewers!!

StarTrek1 · 22/06/2026 17:19

Is this a joke?

Do you get this insecure when he laughs at Michael Macintyre?

And why does the way she speak English bother you? Why does that make her manipulative’?

Do you need to speak to a therapist?

Sadly, my husband thinks Michael Macintyre is funny.

I wish he found some annoying woman on the telly funnier than him.

I'm sad for you.

I hope he has a lot of good points to outweigh this appalling lack of taste.

menopausalfart · 22/06/2026 20:41

On some level, you must realise that you're being completely irrational.

lebin · 22/06/2026 20:56

Oh lord I’ve heard it all now. I should warn my dad that my mum is cheating on him with Bob Mortimer!

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 22/06/2026 21:38

Kindly, you are being absolutely batshit. And that's coming from someone who gets sick of women flirting with my husband.

Ard · 22/06/2026 23:45

I'd say that if this the worst thing he's done in 40 years of marriage, you've been pretty lucky to be honest.

maxslice · 23/06/2026 02:26

Are you also a woman who gets very angry with your husband over his behaviour in a dream you had? Because being jealous of a fictional character on television, following a script written by a room full writers, in a programme lasting 1 hour, suggests that you have deeper problems. And truly the worst case of Pixel Envy that I’ve ever encountered.

Cloudconfusion · 23/06/2026 05:31

Huh? The worst he’s done, laughging at a tv show. As said to the op it is not humanly possible to flirt with a tv program.
