Curious: How do people usually react to flirtatious dancing in social settings? Is it not appropriate?

Hi, I (20s F), was at a friend's party yesterday and I danced with another woman (30s), first time met her and she was just another guest.

We started with social swing dancing then, turned into more playful dance. After some breaks and chat with her, we danced again this time, it was more closely, face-to-face, with some more playful touches, grinding, bit naughty, dirty, flirty, sexy, dirty dance together. it was all fun and we both laughed, enjoyed together.

This morning, I have been told by some friends that some people were not happy and annoyed with the dance moves we have pulled together.

Tbh, I felt I was bit aroused(?) and felt good chemistry with her but, nothing felt too sexual imo. Having looked back, I can't think of dance moves that may have raised alarms.

It makes me wondering, is this not normal playful flirting through dance? Has anyone else had similar experiences or noticed how others react in these situations? TIA!

They're only jealous...

You say a friend's party, rather than a club at 2am. That might have been the issue rather than the dancing per se

TheCurious0range · Today 19:25

Depends on the party, kids party or grandma's 80th probably not appropriate

Error404FucksNotFound · Today 19:26

Probably the grinding. It's not very nice.

Shallotsaresmallonions · Today 19:27

What kind of party?

Tbh I'd think anyone doing "sexy" dancing, outside of a club setting, was a bit of weirdo and an attention seeker.

Alwaysthesameoldstory · Today 20:13

It sounds extremely embarrassing .

ItsJustMeMyself · Today 20:14

Sounds cringe.

I think maybe the grinding and whatever you were doing you class as “ dirty” maybe a bit much.

Overtheatlantic · Today 20:26

You might have thought it was fun and sexy but others might have thought you should get a room and stop embarrassing yourself. Just different ways of experiencing the situation.

ProudAmberTurtle · Today 20:26

There seems to be a lot of posts on Mumsnet in the last few days by 'women' who have done something slightly sexual with another woman and want others to share their similar experiences.

I imagine them all to be blokes typing with one hand.

Newsenmum · Today 20:29

This is hilarious!

Are you married or in a relationship if so not a good look, if not who cares.

@Notmycircusnotmyotter I can't generalise this but, at least in my friends circles, yes, we do.

Your 20! Having fun! I had my best nights with a great dance partner that we just jelled and had amazing chemistry dancing! This is when you’re meant to be having fun and letting loose. I miss those days so enjoy it and ignore the jealousy.

Everlil · Today 21:59

What are you concerned about? You danced and had fun by the sounds of it. Others might have found it a bit cringey, but it doesn’t really affect them does it? We’ve all seen embarrassing dancing when out - especially dads dancing at weddings! I don’t think people really care so I wouldn’t worry about it.
