I’ve been seeing a guy since Christmas. We met online after a long and exhausting few months of online dating.

At first, he seemed nice and ticked many boxes, but then I noticed some red flags. His ex-wife wasn’t quite so “ex”—he had put in for a divorce while we were dating. His young child understandably became a priority when his ex decided to return from abroad. I get that.

However, I dealt with much of his anger towards his ex and the government's immigration policy, which became my problem as our values differed. It was exhausting.

The final straw for me was his support for a fascist dictator. I knew I had to end things.

They weren't all bad. My biggest gripe was that he pretended to enjoy our debates until I kept proving him wrong with facts. Then, I saw a whole new side of him.

Phew, bullet dodged. Him, not you. Anyone who honestly thinks Nigel Farage counts as a fascist dictator would be really, really tedious to do life with. I think I could be with someone who voted differently to me, but only if they were level headed, rational and intelligent about it. Having to listen to histrionic and plainly inaccurate invective being spewed while I have my morning coffee would grow old very quickly.
