Online dating - which app?

I'm looking at possible joining an online dating app.

What ones are best?

I've heard horror stories but I am thick skinned so no too concerned about that aspect.

Is there an OLD support thread?

Be careful on any of them you use. If you can, make sure their photos are verified otherwise they could be using fake profiles. Get chatting to them & get to know a bit better before meeting. Another tip always do a video call first..

Thanks! I didn't know photo verification was a thing on dating apps. Good to know, I'll look for that

I would recommend Hinge a million times over! I (along with at least three of my friends) met my long term partner on there and also a couple of really nice guys before him. For me it’s the most “normal” one of them all, but I know everyone’s experiences will be different

I’d try them all to see which ones are more active in your area.

There is an OLD support thread, it’s in Relationships and they’re up to number 50 I think. I’ve lost track of it so can’t link sorry, but it’ll be in the first page or two.

I'm early 50's and I used Our Time, it's Match for under 50. I really liked it, found it easy to use and felt that people were more proactive because it was a paid app. Plus I met my bf on there!!

I also tried Eharmony (hated it - clunky to use) and Facebook dating which is ok and free, but there are a lot of people on there.

I agree with only verified pictures. If I got on with someone then I tended to move to WhatsApp fairly quickly (you can always block them), but don't be fooled if they try to get you to move to some of the other messaging apps. Always video call before meeting, first meetings should always be in public and make sure you've told someone trustworthy and reliable where you'll be and what you're doing.

I and all my other friends who met their partners on OLD used Hinge. We are all in our 20/30s

Cluckycluck · 24/04/2025 16:07

I've gone for giving Hinge a try. This is the first time I've ever done dating of any kind as I was with ExH since I was at school

This is all mildly terrifying!

I'd suggest something like a coffee for a first date. Not a huge time commitment.

Lonely1972 · 05/02/2026 15:14

Advice please! I was born in 1972 and was married off at 23 (Indian culture etc). The marriage lasted 20yrs or so but I've been single and lonely for the last decade or more, while I concentrated on the children. I do want to start dating again but am so nervous! Are there any online dating apps you might recommend for someone like me? I'd be glad to hear about your thoughts and experiences. Thank You.
