Does anyone know what this picture is please? It's not a padlock. Just a flat piece of metal with Room 5 engraved on it? Has anyone seen similar before + enlighten me please?

What is this please?

Would he not hide it if it was something suspicious rather than put it with his keys? Might he have just found it, picked it up and liked it so added it to his key ring? I think the other suggestion above is a good one...say you found it on the floor and you wonder what it could be.

It's definitely not a padlock. Just a flat piece of metal

Best idea

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 29/06/2024 20:58

Seems an odd thing to keep without the key!

He hasn't done an escape room or something similar where it would make sense for something like that to be a souvenir has he?

I think the 'I found this on the floor, is it yours' idea is a good one, even if he lies you'll be able to judge something from his reaction maybe?

ByRealHelper · 29/06/2024 21:00

Yes there is a reason why I didn't just ask him 'cos of other little niggly things

ByRealHelper · 29/06/2024 21:03

No he wasn't away anywhere before I found this. He is retired + I go out to work so he has more free time than I have

Yep. Wasn't in pockets. Was on his fob with car keys + house key.

Its hardly going to be something dodgy if he's just put it on his keyring where you'll easily spot it. What are the other niggly things?

If it is something underhand then by putting it on his key ring he could be doing I think is called hiding it in plain sight.

Has he got an allotment?

ByRealHelper · 29/06/2024 21:09

I don't really want to go into the other things on here if that's OK. Too specific. But appreciate everyone's advice.

No allotment

In my experience, if you think they're up to no good, they are usually up to no good, OP. For me, those niggly things came together in the middle of the night, causing me a massive panic attack. I knew everything in that moment.

Try writing all those things down and try to make connections. One day it will come to you.

They give them out in those gay sauna kinds of places.

Not in any I have been to they don't, and I have been to plenty over the years.

Moier · 29/06/2024 21:26

It's a vintage dog tag.

Moier · 29/06/2024 21:26

Was in the military?

ByRealHelper · 29/06/2024 21:27

No wasn't in military

Absolutely up to you, but surely the picture of the thing that he had on his keys is far more identifying? You may want to take this thread down if you think he's going to find it.

Jaydafran · 29/06/2024 21:32

Keyring to padlock to room number 5.

ifndtg · 29/06/2024 21:41

Livestock tag? Antique brass tag?

ByRealHelper · 29/06/2024 21:49

Oh no, there's no chance he will be on here! I just don't want to share other issues.

It’s a small memento, hidden in plain site, for a pleasant time spent somewhere you don’t know about. A reminder he thought you probably wouldn’t notice.

Is he the type of person who likes to keep mementos, or collect unusual objects?

Something to do with railway memorabilia? Is he a trainspotter? Worked in steelworks?
