So - have been chatting to a guy who comes highly recommended by a mutual friend. He is in his 50's and in the process of getting divorced. We have met up and may meet up again soon. But, tonight amongst our chat he sent me this message "What makes me laugh out load is when women try anything on, they stand on their tiptoes and turn around in the mirror and check how big their arse looks in the outfit ???? Fascinating……"
I felt instant ick over this but can't work out if I'm being sensitive or if he is some kind of dinosaur. What do you think?

Why would you be being ‘sensitive’ when someone you’re just getting to know posts something ‘joky’ and misogynistic? Reply ‘What gets me is when men claim their penis is eight inches when it’s more like a cocktail sausage. Fascinating’ and block.

Lookingforunicorns · 23/06/2024 23:22

Two red flags:
1.Not yet divorced.
2. That comment. ick.

Durdledore · 23/06/2024 23:23

🙄

it’s a no from me to this twunt

Summerflames · 23/06/2024 23:23

He sounds like a bit of a prat

amprev · 23/06/2024 23:23

If that literally makes him laugh out loud, it raises a question mark about his intelligence also.

TheShellBeach · 23/06/2024 23:24

He sounds like a misogynistic idiot.

Catandsquirrel · 23/06/2024 23:24

Weird. Plus don't women stand on tiptoe to see how an outfit will hang in heels if they're shopping in flats? That's why I do it.

🤣

ShrubRose · 23/06/2024 23:25

Run!

Flin · 23/06/2024 23:26

He sounds stupid. Don't people turn around just to see how an outfit looks in general from the back, not to check how big their arse looks.

I'd have to reply with some sarcastic comment and then block him.

Kumquaat · 23/06/2024 23:27

Probably just a Fast Show reference, hardly a reason to bin him off. He thought it was funny, you didn't, it's no harm done.

Opentooffers · 23/06/2024 23:27

Not yet divorced is a tad too soon, you don't want to be involved in the messy stuff, better after it's sorted.
The comment, he has a point, don't most women check if their bum looks big in this? Not sure why he made it. I'm in my 50's, yes it's a normal thing to do - minus the tiptoes, but then I don't wear heels. Not enough to give me the ick, but the 'not yet divorced' would.

Ariel45 · 23/06/2024 23:27

I mean, I do actually do this, but I'm not looking at how big my arse looks. I'm just looking at what my clothes look like from the back before I buy them. The bit I don't like is that he's automatically assumed that when women do this they are looking at their arse. It's like me saying 'what makes me laugh out loud is when men pull their shoulders back when they try on a shirt, to see if it makes their chest look big'. No. They're just making sure it fits.

ShrubRose · 23/06/2024 23:28

@ProjectsGalore I felt instant ick over this

And that was your gut feeling giving you the right answer.

Always, always listen to it.

When I wore heels I'd do that as well, but how would he know what goes on in women's changing rooms?

XChrome · 23/06/2024 23:35

I'd be more concerned about the fact that he is not yet divorced, and why he is divorced. Maybe it's because he's an asshole?

What he said was ridiculous. This is the kind of guy who loves women to look good, but at the same time is derisive about our efforts to look good. It would be a hard pass for me.

ProjectsGalore · 23/06/2024 23:35

Thanks everyone for your views. For a number of reasons I am checking my
own reaction to this which I why I wanted a wider view.

Good point. Could be a peeper.

Kumquaat · 23/06/2024 23:44

Maybe he'd get the ick if he heard a 50 odd year old woman using the phrase get the ick.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 23/06/2024 23:46

I just don't really get it, why is it funny to see how it looks from the back..? He sounds irritating and tedious, don't waste your time.

‘Ick’ is the commonly accepted term for Sudden Repulsion Syndrome so people of all ages use it 🤷

SecondTimeASquare · 24/06/2024 02:19

Yeah, he's not funny.

MaryMary6589 · 24/06/2024 02:34

They used the phrase ick on Sex and the City. It's hardly a new phrase.

Exactly but because he hasn't cottoned on to this he's laughing at us whilst we laugh back at him. 🤣

swayingpalmtree · 24/06/2024 07:24

Ew no, instant turn off for me. Laugh out loud for people checking what an outfit looks like from the back?- it's hardly hilarious is it.

Nope from me.
