Does this look like alcohol to you?

My partner has had an issue with alcohol in the past. He posted a photo this morning in the gym and I noticed the bottle in the background. I have never seen him drink orange squash. It also looks like it's something else been transferred into an empty water bottle. I don't want to look stupid by asking him and seem like I'm accusing so I thought I would ask here first. I'm hoping it's not. Does it look like alcohol to you?

Looks like cookin oil- clearly it would not be that. No one would take alcohol to.a gym surely. I think u will need to kerp ur ete open. This is not conclusive

sunshineandshowers40 · 30/03/2024 16:41

My first thought was sunflower oil.

sunshineandshowers40 · 30/03/2024 16:42

Could it have some sort of sports gel/powder in it?

CleanShirt · 30/03/2024 16:42

Looks like berocca

Sunquest · 30/03/2024 16:43

Looks like cooking oil to me. Or maybe its one of those isotonic sports drinks.

NoBunnyHome · 30/03/2024 16:43

No it doesn't.

It looks more like energy powder had been added to the water.

Doesn't mean I'm right. But that's what it looks like to me.

ThePoshUns · 30/03/2024 16:44

Looks like electrolyte tablet dissolved in water, like an energy drink.

thinking the same that it could be an energy drink.

Elephantswillnever · 30/03/2024 16:44

Doesn’t look like booze to me it’s be a strange thing to decant into a single use water bottle. I buy effervescent vitamin c /
tablets in a tube from Aldi. The pineapple flavour ones go that colour. I think something like that is more likely in a gym.

HummingbirdChandelier · 30/03/2024 16:45

If at the gym looks more like a protein/isotonic supplement.

This is not a great way to live though, spying for drink

ThePoshUns · 30/03/2024 16:45

This sort of thing

Causewerethespecialtwo · 30/03/2024 16:46

It looks like a bottle of water with BCAA added to it. I add it to water every time I go to the gym, it’s very common.

alcoholicsanonymous · 30/03/2024 16:50

Ok thank you, it's probably a supplement then. He's going through a hard time at the moment which is making me or on edge about it than usual.

If he's drinking again you'll know sooner or later from the smell and his behaviour. The fact you're questioning what's in the bottle suggest you have your suspicions anyway, and often when the suspicion creeps in, its for a reason, so brace yourself. I hope you're wrong.

HuntingoftheSnark · 30/03/2024 17:56

It's very common for active alcoholics to transfer clear alcohol into water bottles, adding something for colour e.g. Diet Coke or similar. The fact that you're suspicious indicates that this may have happened in the past. However, I'd have expected him to have concealed the bottle so the fact that it's out in the open may mean it's perfectly innocent.

Bakerfoot · 30/03/2024 18:06

Other than beer I don't know what alcohol that would be and that's not strong enough for someone to take to the gym, I wouldn't think. More likely a sports drink made up from powder or tablets. Although I thought cooking oil too.

CheeryPye · 30/03/2024 18:13

Piss?

Watchkeys · 30/03/2024 18:32

The cap is an oil bottle cap, not a drink bottle cap. Drink bottles have a bigger label too, don't they? I might do this in the gym, if I shoved a bag with a few bits of shopping in a locker, I'd probably set the oil aside so it didn't tip. If someone distracted me by taking a photo at that point, this would make sense.

But if you're worried about looking stupid if you ask him and you're wrong, you've got a different problem from the one you think you have.

The water bottles in multipacks at Aldi look like this. It’s to make them easier to recycle.

Username947531 · 31/03/2024 16:28

It's an energy drink by the looks of it, to replace electrolytes in the gym.

My alcoholic son in law used to take alcohol to the gym

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 31/03/2024 16:30

It doesn't look like alcohol to me, and I had an alcohol problem for years where I would hide alcohol in water bottles. This doesn't look like that. To me it looks like berocca.

mynamechangemyrules · 31/03/2024 16:31

It's Sainsbury's sunflower oil! I've got it in my kitchen.
