Does this look like alcohol to you?

My partner has had an issue with alcohol in the past. He posted a photo this morning in the gym and I noticed the bottle in the background. I have never seen him drink orange squash. It also looks like it's something else been transferred into an empty water bottle. I don't want to look stupid by asking him and seem like I'm accusing so I thought I would ask here first. I'm hoping it's not. Does it look like alcohol to you?

I think you'd smell it on him if he was drinking spirits, it's very potent even after brushing teeth etc like a sour smell. Would you be able to tell if he had been drinking? By his behaviour etc

The cap is an oil bottle cap, not a drink bottle cap. Drink bottles have a bigger label too, don't they? I might do this in the gym, if I shoved a bag with a few bits of shopping in a locker, I'd probably set the oil aside so it didn't tip. If someone distracted me by taking a photo at that point, this would make sense.

But if you're worried about looking stupid if you ask him and you're wrong, you've got a different problem from the one you think you have.

tablets in a tube from Aldi. The pineapple flavour ones go that colour. I think something like that is more likely in a gym.

True. Also wouldn't he just have clear liquid alcohol neat (vodka eg), looks less suss?

It does look like cooking oil which is weird but it's probably preworkout or a sports drink . I can't think of an alcohol that looks like that, it's too luminous for wine

If I put a berocca tablet or vitamin c into
water it looks like that. Also you literally couldn’t drink and gym at the same time.

Although, zooming in, it does look more like a flip top oil cap than a screw top water cap. Disposable flip top water caps are sport types usually and have taller lids to account for the spout style mouthpiece. Is it definitely his bottle, not just in the background of the communal change area?

You could if you were at the stage where you needed to alcohol in your system to function normally. You probably wouldn't be obviously drunk or even tipsy (though of course you are impaired, in reality). No idea of this is the case here, of course.

Probably electrolytes. But it’s awful (for you) if you are still looking out for hidden alcohol 😰
